reTyre Unveils Worlds First Carbon-Neutral Tire at This Years Eurobike
Oslo, Norway is home to reTyre, a company that has recently shifted to mass-producing sustainable tires in 2022. At this years Eurobike, theyve announced the worlds first carbon-neutral tire, made of 100% reclaimed materials in an effort to use cutting-edge manufacturing technology to reduce emissions.(Photos/reTyre)ReTyre claims that the tire is crafted from groundbreaking materials, and the innovative concept marks a monumental step in sustainable tire production.A Revolution In Tire Manufacturing(Photos/reTyre)ReTyres Carbon-neutral tire incorporates several unique materials in its construction, each chosen for its ability to minimize environmental impact:Algae in the TreadSourced from algae blooms to restore aquatic ecosystems, preventing eutrophication and methane release.Recycled Para-Aramid in the Beads and Puncture ProtectionRubberless Balance Bike tiresUtilized from used body armor in a closed-loop recycling process, incorporating renewable carbon and reducing waste.Post-Consumer Recyclate (PCR)Sourced from local waste streams with low Co2-equivalent (kg Co2-eq)Recycled Fish Nets for the CasingCollected from the ocean, reducing emissions by 49% and energy use by 15%The Path to Carbon NeutralityThe person who is leading the Carbon Neutral Tire Project at reTyre is Froiedemann Ohse. He elaborates on the meticulous process that goes into achieving carbon neutrality. The product carbon footprint of this tire is based on our third-party verified LCA, including the end-of-life, which is how we measure all our products. Our production and transportation processes are optimized to be close to zero emissions. Ohse continues, End-of-life is reduced to almost zero due to the recycling of the tires. The algae used in the tire has a negative CO2 equivalent, balancing any remaining emissions to achieve a net-zero impact. In this way, we have a carbon-neutral product without using any of the well-known shortcuts, such as carbon quotas, subsidies, or other non-product related contributions.A Global EffortReTyre collaborates with global suppliers to responsibly source their materials. For instance, the algae used in the process is harvested from lakes and oceans worldwide and is supported by the UN Ecosystem Restoration Program.Unique Materials + Manufacturing PossibilitiesUsing its 100% sustainable product portfolio, reTyre can offer brands a wide range of sustainable tires without compromising quality. By using bio-based and 100% renewable materials that have never been used before, reTyre significantly reduces emissions and produces fully reusable tires. This approach reduces GHG emissions by up to 82% compared to conventional tires. Friedmann Ohse also said, This carbon-neutral tire is at a concept stage and it is a result of continuous innovation that shows what our unique manufacturing is capable of.Eurobike DebutIn addition to the groundbreaking carbon-neutral tire, reTyre showed its full range of sustainable products, including the new City Range tires designed for the urban cyclist.reTyre.ecoThe post reTyre Unveils Worlds First Carbon-Neutral Tire at This Years Eurobike appeared first on Bikerumor.

Bosch adds Auto-Shifting w/ New TRP Electronic Derailleur
Bosch has unleashed a bevy of cool updates for their e-bike systems, from automatic shifting for a wide variety of drivetrain options, AI-managed assist levels to preserve battery life, a new ECO+ mode that gives you more range, and even the ability to customize the Purion displays. Lets dive inAuto-Shift & TRPs new derailleurLast year, TRP introduced their EVO mountain bike group. Then they announced a collaboration with Classified for a wireless 1x road & gravel group called Vistar. Now, theyve given Bosch first dibs on an all-new electronic derailleur and shifters. The system is called TRP E.A.S.I. (Electronic Automatic Shifting Integration), and the derailleur is powered by the bikes motor, but controlled wirelessly by both shifters and Boschs system. Meaning, you can shift it like normal, or let the bike do it for you based on your desired cadence, which you input on the Bosch Flow app.A separate button on the TRP CMD shifter lets you quickly toggle between manual and automatic shifting, which also activates two other cool features:Auto-Downshift shifts to an easier gear for you as you come to a stop for smoother startsRoll Shift it can shift for you even while coasting so you stay in the right gearThe TRP E.A.S.I. derailleur is e-MTB ready with a silent clutch and their cage-release lever for easy wheel swaps. Its compatible with their 10-52 MTB cassettes, too, and theyll have a more budget-friendly 10-50 cassette option also. The automatic shifting part is more than just a TRP thing, though. Bosch is also offering it on bikes equipped with Enviolo Automatiq internally geared hubs. If you just want manual electronic shifting (Bosch calls it eShift), they now offer that on bikes with Shimano Di2 Cues derailleurs, plus Shimano Di2 Nexus, Rohloff E14, and 33 internally geared hubs.Bosch Flow App now gives you more range & optionsIf youve ever ridden somewhere and hoped thered be enough battery left to get you home, youll like the new Range Control feature. Use the Flow App to map your route, tell it how much battery charge you want left when you get there, and itll automatically adjust the bikes assist level to do just that.Other key updates in Version 1.22 include:Customize data fields on Purion 200 displaysSee CO2 savings (vs driving) for each rideABS & total braking activity for each rideECO+ mode turns off assist until you really need it to extend total rangeECO+ is available now as a firmware update through your local dealer, but will be available as an over-the-air update through the app in a later versionand may or may not be available for your bike depending on bike brand and any limitations they have on system updates.Bosch-ebike.comThe post Bosch adds Auto-Shifting w/ New TRP Electronic Derailleur appeared first on Bikerumor.

Nows Your Chance To Own A Piece Of Crap. I Mean History!
At the end of last year, Bicycling asked me to write a little something about the Star Track Youth Cycling Program in New York City, which I gladly did:My elder son participated in Star Track for two or three years, and while hes no longer involved, I was consistently amazed by what a great program it is. Its completely free (they even provide bikes), its phenomenally well-organized, and it will take a nascent bike racer as far into the sport as they want to go. Even the kids who dont evolve into bike racers benefit tremendously; not only is the program fun, but think of all the adults youve come across who have decided to take up cycling either for pleasure or for transportation or both and have absolutely no foundation because like many Americans they had little exposure to bikes as a kid. Meanwhile, a Start Track kid who learned how to ride in a paceline on a fixed-gear at 9 years old is way, way ahead of the game when they grow up and decide they want to start commuting to work by Citi Bike or whatever. As far as basic life skills, being able to ride a bike competently is right up there with being able to swim, and if New York City had a Star Track in every borough wed be a real bike city within a generation. All of this is to say I see Star Track is looking to raise money to send riders to Nationals this year:This immediately got me thinking, How can I help Star Track and help myself at the same time, at no cost to me? Then it hit me: Ill sell a bike and give Star Track the proceeds! This helps Star Track because money, and it helps me because I have too many road bikes. In fact, I even briefly listed the Noner for sale online recently, but I took the ad down as there was too much Can you bring the bike over so I can try it? and not enough Ill come get bike and bring money. So I decided it wasnt worth the hassle and that I might as well keep it because I really do like itthough if I can sell it and make a few bucks for Star Track then that changes the calculus considerably. So how is this going to work? Well, at first I thought about trying to do an online raffle or something, but the last thing I need is some payment processor deciding Im running a gambling ring and terminating my account. So I think the easiest way to do it is with a simple best bids auction. First, take a close look at the bike:As far as size, top tube is about 56cm and head tube is 14cm. Obviously youre not getting a show bike here; its scratched and dented, and the drivetrain in particular has seen lots of use. But its a steel frame from an esteemed builder that will probably outlive us all, and thanks to a lot of elbow grease (and Dumonde grease) on my part its running nicely considering the age of the components and the condition in which I received it. Its also got a new chain, new cassette, new lever hoods, new cables, and new bar tape. Yes, those old 8-speed Ergos are going to wear out sooner or later, and when that happens youre probably not going to want to rebuild them unless youre a Campy-phile and already have the parts. Same goes for the rear hubit rolls just fine, but its still a little rough even after I overhauled it, and if you demand perfection when you pick up your rear wheel and give it a spin youre not going to get it. But as I say its working pretty good right now, so either ride and enjoy as is or just think of it as a project and get to work right away, whatever works for you. You could even give it a new paint job:I know absolutely nothing about that stuff, but had I known about it before overhauling the Noner I might have given it a try just for the hell of it.As for how much to bid, obviously Ill take the best one, but youre welcome to offer anything from $1 to a gazillion dollars. Its an old bike, so dont be shy. If youre in or around New York City thats best, though I am certainly willing to box it up and send it to you. However, keep in mind that if I have to ship it I will take the cost of that into account when considering your bid. (I think the last time I shipped a road bike via Bikeflights it was around $100, and I do reserve the right to recoup my shipping costs.) As for shipping internationally, I dont know how much of a hassle that is, so while I wont rule it out, but I will say that if youre here in Canadas skid plate that will certainly work in your favor.Okay, so with that in mind, if youre interested in bidding on the bike send me an email with the following subject line:NONER IS FOR THE CHILDREN [amount of your bid]Please note that you should PUT THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF YOUR BID in the brackets, and if you simply put [amount of your bid] in the subject I will have you killed. Then in the body of the email put in any pertinent information, like whether youre able to pick up the bike here in New York, or whether youd need it shipped, and if so where youre located. As of now Im going to leave the bidding open until tomorrow, Thursday, July 11th, 10am EST, though if theres a need to extend that Ill let you know. Once I accept your bid Id expect prompt payment via one of the usual payment services*, since we want to get Star Track their money while theyre still matching bids. If you need the bike shipped, it shouldnt take me more than a few days to get that together, though again, if youre here in New York thats obviously best.*[Please note if you win the auction youre paying me, not Star Track. Star Track is not involved in this auction in any way, and for all I know they wouldnt want to be exposed to whatever liability is involved in auctioning off a used bike. Strictly speaking, I am selling you a bike in a personal transaction between two consenting adults, and then Im making a donation in that same amount to Star Track. And of course if you have no interest in this auction but you do want to donate directly to Star Track you should absolutely do that.]I think that covers it! Let me know if you have any questions. Happy bidding, and may your dreams of owning a rusty vintage Canadian road bike recently overhauled by a terrible mechanic finally come true.Love,Tan Tenovo

Pro bike: Jasper Philipsens unreleased Canyon Aeroad
CyclistPro bike: Jasper Philipsens unreleased Canyon AeroadJasper Philipsen has proved that he is the fastest man on the road in recent seasons. The Belgian known as the Vlam van Ham has claimed seven stage wins over the past three Tours de France, and took home the green points jersey in 2023. At the time of writing, he has just taken his first win of the 2024 Tour by claiming victory on Stage 10. Ahead of this years Tour in Florence, Philipsen told the press that he is expecting to be sprinting faster during the Tour de France. With the support of rainbow jersey-wearing teammate Mathieu van der Poel, he said we can adapt to any situation to have maximal strength in a sprint stage. One element adding strength to Philipsens bullish claim will be his brand new bike. At the 2024 Tour de France, Jasper is riding Canyons new, still unreleased Aeroad with a custom chrome paint job, different to the navy blue of his teammates. While were still waiting for official details of the new Canyon aero bike, we got up close with Philipsens in Florence to get an early look.Jasper Philipsens Canyon AeroadPatrik Lundin/CyclistPatrik Lundin/CyclistPatrik Lundin/CyclistAhead of the Tour de France, Alpecin-Deceuninck had been spotted using a revised model of the Canyon Aeroad CFR. Details of the latest Aeroad are being tightly guarded at the moment, but our investigator eyes several changes.Philipsens new bike seems to have new integrated handlebars, which have a negative slope that has been increased on the Belgians new cockpit, probably in the pursuit of extra aero gains and/or a more aggressive riding position. Hes using Canyons 3D printed computer mount. The reason for this is yet to be revealed, but this is a huge plus for the bikes aesthetics. It also looks as though the forks do not taper on the new Aeroad. Upon inspection, the head tube and forks look bulkier than on the previous Aeroad. The deep seat tube has become characteristic of the Aeroad models through the years. That said, the seat tube and, notably, the seatpost have been slimmed in width from the previous Aeroad CFR. Alpecins team mechanics disclosed to Cyclist that Philipsen rides a saddle height of 77.4cm. The Belgians bar width clocks in at 37cm and 39cm in the drops showing the flare provided on the new bars. Philipsen uses a 120mm stem, 10mm less than his sprinting rival Mark Cavendish.Patrik Lundin/CyclistStay tuned to Cyclist for more news on the Canyon Aeroad when it is released. We will share more bikes from the 2024 Tour de France throughout the race.
