- BIKERUMOR.COMSilca Terra Floor Pump Gives Durable, Big Volume PrecisionIve been using the Silca Terra since shortly after its launch in 2022. As is expected from the brand, its held up over nearly four years of constant use and become one of my most-employed tools. The Terra is Silcas answer to big volume gravel and mountain bike tires. And as road bikes have normalized on 30-32mm tires, its quickly become the perfect one-pump solution for every bike in my garage. Its stand-out feature is a two-stage gauge combined with a 30mm diameter shaft. It moves enough air to quickly and easily inflate fat tires, and anything up to 30psi is shown in 0.5psi increments. Silca precision, now extended to low-pressure.Half of the gauges diameter is reserved for the first 30psi, so its easy to read from a standing position, too. The rest shows off 30-to-120psi in 1.0psi increments in the 40-60psi range (modern road tubeless), and increasing to just 2.0psi at the top end of its range.Worth noting, pumps are typically designed with about 2x the range that theyre expected to be used for, so if you actually need to hit 100-120psi, get one of their high-pressure road pumps instead. How fast and easy is it? Just 26 effortless pumps to hit 25psi on a 700x50mm Panaracer Gravel King.It works great even on massive 292.6 all-mountain tires, tooor just 2.4s like these. The hose is 37 (94cm) long. Not the longest on the market, but long enough to reach a wheel in a workstand.A pressure release button makes it easy to dial it in if you over-inflate.The Terra is Silcas first floor pump to come with a standard lever-actuated valve head, too. Compared to their proprietary chucks, this is honestly easier to use and also one of the best-feeling pump head levers Ive ever used. Its firm, but not difficult, and provides a confident closure on the valve stem. Its reversible, working with both Presta/Dunlop and Schrader by unscrewing and flipping the cap. A handy pressure release valve makes fine-tuning your inflation easy. The only signs of wear are scrapes on the bottom where it contacts the groundwhich is only at the three corners, oddly. And theres a bit of corrosion on the three bolts attaching the piping that goes from the cylinder to the gauge. The only downside is that this is their only floor pump that doesnt have the leather plunger seal inside. And its not user-serviceable, so if the rubber gasket or anything else starts wearing out, youll have to send it in for repair/replacement. It has a lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects, though, and a 7-year warranty on hard (non-wear) parts.MSRP is $159.00, which makes it Silcas most affordable floor pump, but thats still on the high side for a floor pump. Few floor pumps come with a real Ash wood handle and mostly metal construction, though, not to mention Silcas reputation. Its those things, combined with the unique dual-function gauge, that make this a standout pump.Silca.cc0 Reacties 0 aandelen 58 Views

- BIKESNOBNYC.COMCredit Where Credit Is DueAs Ive said repeatedly, I didnt start a bike blog in order to do work.So why did you start a bike blog?, you may be wondering.Well, it was all so I could meet the so-called Fat Cyclist:Ah, the high-flying, free-wheeling* days of the aughties blogosphere. We were like gods back then. Fat Cyclist and I could walk into any bike shop** in America back then and get all the free inner tubes*** and derailleur cables**** we wanted.*[Actually there wasnt much free-wheeling, this was Peak Fixie]**[A bike shop was a kind of a store where you could actually purchase a bicycle in person. Sort of like a Bottega di Pinarello, only with multiple brands at a variety of prices]***[An inner tube was sort of a bladder made of butyl rubber that you put inside your tire in order to hold the air. It was was a primitive system that was clean, cheap, reliable, and easy to service, though fortunately its now been replaced by tight-fitting tires that are nearly impossible to mount by hand and filled with messy coagulants]****[A derailleur cable wasoh, forget it, its just too depressing]But those days are over. Fat Cyclist is now a food influencer:And if anybody remembers me at all its only to say, He hasnt been funny since 2008, which is ironic, because in 2008 everybody said I hadnt been funny since 2007.But now its 2025*****, and as lazy as I am, Im so grateful to you, my dear readers, that in order to reward you for your readership Im actually going to do something that, while it may not qualify as work, is certainly at least work-adjacent.*****[Actually its 2026, but Ive decided to stop counting, I can no longer come to terms with the passage of time]Or, to put it another way, do you like lube?Of course you do. And Dumonde Tech makes some the best bike lubricants in the worldand Im not just saying this because they keep sending it to me, either, but it certainly helps. Anyway, you may recall that earlier this year I curated a Spirit of Gravel contest, and that Dumonde supplied the prizes:Well, Im gonna do it again. But its not about gravel this time. Its about Meh-roica bikes:[No AI-generated flyers this time. This one is all me!]Heres how its going to work:YOU are going to send me a photo or photos of your finest Meh-roica bikeI am going to choose a winnerThe winner will get some Dumonde stuffUhthats itWait, actually thats not it. Your bike must meet the Meh-roica criteria, and any submission that doesnt will be instantly rejected. That criteria is as follows:The bike must have been produced between 1990 and 2009 (an odd part from before or after that is OK, but it should substantially hail from that era)The bike must have integrated shiftersThe bike may have no more than 10 speedsThe bike must have mechanical shifting and rim brakes (no Mektronic!)The bike may not have a compact crank (a triple crank is acceptable)The bikes tires may not have a nominal width greater than 25mmThe bike may have threaded or threadless headsetIntegrated headsets and bottom brackets will not result in an instant DQ, though preference will be given to non-integrated systemsAll frame materials and methods of construction are acceptableAll wheel systems are acceptable; however, they should be true to the Meh-roica era, and tubless systems are not acceptableIf Im forgetting something let me knowAlso, please dont get indignant about any of this, or say stuff like But bar-end shifters are more reliable than integrate ones!, or Wide tires are better than narrow ones!, or Low gearing is better than high gearing! Thats not the point. The point is to celebrate this currently overlooked and under-appreciated era of road bicyclesthe one lost between the classical Eroica bikes of yesteryear and the modern-day freak rockets. Sure, they werent always the most forgiving bicycles, but they were light and fast and reliable and they Got Stuff Done. Basically theyre the Gen X of bikes. Sure, the demanding Boomers and the whiny Millennials may get all the attention, but Gen X doesnt need your coddling, and it quietly goes about holding society together amid all the simpering. Same with, say, an aluminum road bike with 9-speed Dura-Ace.So heres how to submit:Send a photo or photos of your bike via email with exactly this subject line: MEH-ROICA MEH-ROICA MEH-ROICATell me anything about the bike you think is relevantPlease note that by sending me a submission youre allowing me to post your photos on the Internet as well as to quote from your emailIf you want credit please tell me clearly how to credit you (name, any relevant handle you want me to link to, etc.), or if you prefer to be anonymous please state that clearly, too. If its unclear Ill use my judgment. Please note you may or may not receive a response of any kind from me, everThe deadline for submissions is October 16th, 12:00pm EST (thats noon, not midnight)And yes, the no-compact thing is a little insane. For example, by my own criteria this bike would be an instant rejection, even though its pretty much the Meh-roica Platonic ideal:But hey, what can I tell you? Remember what I said about coddling? This one would be 100% elegible:Can you believe I sent both of those back to Classic Cycle?Sometimes my own profligacy astounds me.Anyway, so there you have it. I look forward to your submissions. Thanks for reading, thanks for your support, and may your weekend be replete with overgeared, skinny-tired Meh-roicical adventures.XOXO,T.
