'Their different strengths give us tactical options that could prove decisive' Remco Evenepoel and Florian Lipowitz to lead Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe at Tour de France
Remco Evenepoel and Florian Lipowitz will co-lead Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe at the Tour de France, the team confirmed on Friday morning. The news was expected, but still significant, as Red Bull will line up with the two third-placed riders from the last two editions. They will be joined by Jai Hindley, Maxim Van Gils, Mattia Cattaneo, Jan Tratnik, Nico Denz and Tim van Dijke."The Tour is no longer won by an exceptional rider alone, but by an exceptional team," Zak Dempster, chief of sports at Red Bull, said. "We believe we are bringing one of the most complete squads to the start. With Remco and Florian, we have two leaders who have already proven they can stand on the Tour podium. Their different strengths give us tactical options that could prove decisive."The team have already expressed that the road will decide who is the out-and-out leader at the Tour, but going in with two solid GC options will allow them to challenge other teams in a different way.In fact, while he is competing as a super domestique, Jai Hindley is another GC options, having finished third at the Giro d'Italia already this season."Remco is still the team leader and Florian Lipowitz is a bit of the second man but in terms of sportingperformance, they are on equal footing," team boss Ralph Denk toldHet Laatste NieuwsandHet Nieuwsblad this week."Eventually, there will come a day when one or the other feels better. Then they will have to fight it out between themselves on the road. I am convinced that this can work."Lipowitz has had the better season in general classification terms, finishing on the podium at the Tour de Romandie, Itzulia Basque Country and the Volta a Catalunya, and winning the Tour of Slovenia while Evenepoel won Valenciana and finished fifth at Catalunya. Evenepoel finished third at the 2024 Tour de France, but faded after winning the individual time trial at last year's race, eventually leaving the race on stage 14. He hasn't raced since Lige-Bastogne-Lige, preferring to train away from competition.Lipowtiz, meanwhile, impressed on his way to third overall last year. That might have been 11 minutes behind winner Tadej Pogaar, and over six minutes behind Jonas Vingegaard, but it showed promise."The strength of this roster goes far beyond Remco and Florian," sports director Patxi Vila said."We have experienced climbers, strong all-rounders and riders capable of taking responsibility in every race situation. Every Tour develops its own dynamic, and with this team we have an answer to almost every possible scenario."

PNW Components Get High with New Range High Rise Handlebar
Man, have you guys noticed that mountain bike handlebars are getting taller? Like, in some cases, really tall. For instance, take the new Range High Rise Handlebar from PNW Components; this sucker rocks a 75mm rise. Lets go over some of the handling benefits of an ultra-high-rise handlebar.(Photos / PNW Components)I think the first thing to cover is the why. Comfort & ControlIf youre riding and the trail suddenly becomes very steep, a taller handlebar would definitely be helpful. It would allow the rider to get all of their weight to the back, where it belongs. This allows for better control of the front end. A taller bar means a more upright riding position. And a more upright riding position means less load on the back, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. That means less discomfort. And, with mountain bike rides getting longer and the popularity of bikepacking, a taller bar would be more comfortable on those long rides.A taller bar can help with a bike with a short stack height. If youre riding a bike that has a boat-load of spacers under the stem, you need more stack height. A taller bar might be the answer. And using a taller bar would leave the bikes reach where it was designed to be. Sure, it might look a little goofy at first, but so did 29 wheels when they first came out. This trend of mountain bike handlebars getting taller is a result of the industry listening to the needs of the cyclist. Its a good thing. To that note, PNW is offering a high rise bar of their own. The new and aptly named Range High Rise bar checks in at 75mm rise with 10 backsweep and 5 upsweep. The clamp width is 70mm to allow for wider stems and room to mount accessories like handlebar bags or cradles, and it uses a 35mm clamp diameter. And since its made of aluminum, it wont break the bank at $69. Nice. Thats Forked Up
Well, those retrogrouch renegades over at Rivendell have done it again, because their new fork redefines elegance:Pretty sure Ive seen that design somewhere before, but I cant quite place it.Meanwhile, have you ever had one of those nightmares where you wake up but the world around you doesnt make any sense and you then realize you havent actually woken up at all and that you were simply having a nightmare within a nightmare and now youre still trapped in a nightmare from which you still cant seem to awaken but youre also not sure you even want to because what if you just find yourself in yet another nightmare and your entire existence just becomes an infinite Russian doll of abject terror?Well thats how I feel when I look at bikes, because when I visit the website of pretty much any mainstream bicycle company I cant find a single thing that is in any way remotely familiar or comprehensible to me as a cyclist:I mean what even are those things? Whats with the notch on the one with the middle? Why do you need to plug all of them in just so youre able to change gears? Why is that r/xbiking fever dream on the left almost Nine Thousand American Fun Tickets?Seriously, theres not a single thing on any of these sites that even remotely resembles a functional, rideable bicycle:Motorcycle maybe, but not bicycle:Speaking of Trek, its their 50th Anniversary, and amusingly they made a documentary about themselves just so they could tease new bikes models in it:This exciting new Trek road bike has revolutionary features such as a round seatpost and a lack of gimmicky suspension:At the rear, the mystery bike uses a round seatpost and lacks the ISO-Speed/Flow suspension system. The system looks more like a wedge-type or binder-type. But the seatpost area is definitely a new design for Trek, and the same goes for the headtube area.Incredible! I wonder what theyll come up with next? It is fascinating how John Burke can give an entire interview with a real bike sitting right next to him yet take so long to figure out what hes been doing wrong:Sadly things will keep getting worse before they get better. For example, it was only a matter of time before this happened:Crabon dick break roters are so ridiculous that even the bike media sees the irony, and thats saying something:Indeed, as Ive pointed out many times before, the fact that crabon is a lousy braking surface was the only reason dick breaks happened on road racing bikesthough in fairness to the company making the crabon roaters, these are mostly about weight savings:According to the brands literature, the carbon-ceramic construction is designed for extreme performance situations to eliminate disc brake fade on long descents. However, the messaging at the booth was heavily focused on weight savings, as the system shaves roughly 100 grams per rotor compared to standard steel options.Hmmm, if weight savings is the goal and riders are willing to accept crabon as a braking surface, what if they justNever mind, Im sorry for even thinking it.At least you dont have to charge your rotors yet, but theyll get there, because once you have to plug in your sunglasses before wearing them what else is left?I wish I could wake up.

Hunt's new prototype TT wheel is 100mm deep, weighs 750g and helps riders "stay in their aero position" for longer
Hunt has given us a glimpse of a new prototype TT wheel at Eurobike, with the new model borrowing from the brand's Limitless range, sharing the same hub and spoke setup. The prototype is Hunt's first 100mm deep-section wheel and it features a noticeably shiny appearance. Head of engineering and product at The Rider Firm, Rob Fields, says: "While the wheel has been optimised for aerodynamics, we've also looked to create a stable wheel that gives increased confidence to riders, letting them stay in their aero position in situations where they might not have." The wheel has a high-end spec. Nick Clark / Our Media The wheel features a 22mm internal width with hooked rims and reportedly weighs 750g. Hunt has used the hubs and spokes from its recent Limitless wheels. Nick Clark / Our Media Bladed carbon spokes are used, featuring titanium nipples and ends, with the wheel featuring a 5 and 10 pattern. The spokes are labelled. Nick Clark / Our Media Fields says the prototype has already been in testing with pro riders, with Hunt's ambition seemingly to rejoin the pro peloton in the coming years. There's no word from Hunt on pricing, but the new wheel is expected to be available at the end of the year.
