- BIKESNOBNYC.COM23(mm) And MeIt was over Seventy (70) American Freedom Degrees yesterday, and to celebrate I went Full Easter:They say you should never go Full Easter, but after weeks of pursuing the Spirit of Gravel on fattish tires the bike felt impossibly lithe and fast, even if it does look like what would happen if you left a bag of Skittles out on the dashboard of your car for several hours, but then ate them anyway, and then threw them right back up onto the passenger seat. And yes, I do also have black hoods for the bike, but I mocked it up and, sorry, BO-ring!By the way, I should remind you that the Recordsorry, SUPER Record components on the Faggin were given to me by the commenter who goes by the name of Grouchy Doc, who has since gone electronic and not looked back. So while I may malign the digitization of cycling, if this is the sort of stuff people get rid of when they make the switch then I say bring on the batteries!Thank you once again, Grouchy Doc, for easily the most lavish gift Ive ever received from a readerthough if anyone else would like to try and outdo it youre more than welcome. But yes, as Ive said before but am too lazy to look up where, there is just Something About The Faggin, though Im always reluctant to ascribe magical qualities to the way a bicycle rides since I never know where the material properties end and the psychological stuff begins. Also, as soon as you start talking about that stuff you start to sound like a wine enthusiast, and, oenophiles are easily the most punchable group in modern society, because as soon as they start going on about mouthfeel you want to put your fist in there to add some texture:By the way, thats the AIs take on A oenophile sampling a new vintage and opining on it at great length. Apparently it can get an oenophile right but not a cyclistthough Im sure an oenophile will find at least a thousand things wrong with that image. So yes, Im not going to go on about the Faggins crotchfeel, except to say that getting on it is like putting on those old worn-out sneakers you still like to wear even though youve since gotten new sneakersbut I dont know if thats some wondrous property of the Italian lugged steel frame, or just because you expect it to ride like that because its an Italian lugged steel frame that literally looks like a worn-out sneaker.Speaking of aesthetics, while its old and dinged up (and, at least according to my own amateur appraisal, constructed using low-end tubing, not like you could actually tell from riding it), I do think the Faggin deserves at least a new paint job one day, though I dont know if Id ever get around to it. See, the truth is I cant do the pretty bike thing, it doesnt work. I see pictures of immaculate color-coordinated road bikes, and well-considered gravel bikes in earthen hues, and Rivendae with special brass fasteners and bar tape finished in twine, but every bike I ride eventually gets ground into mundanity:Nor for that matter can I do the while Ultraromance studied dishevelment thing. No, when I start to get creative things get dangerousliterally:Its all fun and games until Bartoli loses a kneecap.Still, I admit I do occasionally fantasize about taking some exotic Italian cycling vacation that involves picking up a brand new Faggin:No subject sets cyclists a-bickering like classic bikes versus modern bikes. Rim brake apologists and disc brake adherents resent each other only marginally less than [insert your favorite warring religious and/or ethnic groups here]. So its not just refreshing but downright inspiring that Faggin will make-a you a bike like-a dis:Or theyll make-a you a bike like-a dis:And yes, thats an ersatz Italian accent, dont get all bent outta shape about it:Still, something must be going on if a bike rides this smoothly with 23mm tires, right?Im pretty sure its illegal to ride 23mm tires now, but it feels delightfully transgressive:So too does mixing a Super Record rear derailleur with a Shimano 105 hub:Certainly nobody needed 11 speed, but at least the unintended result was that Campagnolo and Shimano ran out of room to create proprietary spacing that kept you from mixing and matching their cassettes and wheels.Oops! And if all that wasnt thrilling enough, I squeeze a Campagnolo leverand a Shimano brake stops the bike:See that? Maybe the [insert your favorite warring religious and/or ethnic groups here] really can get along.Speaking of skinny tires, everyone likes to point out that wider tires are faster, and wider tires are more comfortable, and wider tires are saferand of course all that stuff is true. For the aging cyclist, riding skinny tires is like wearing a thong on the beach: tempting perhaps, but ultimately a bad idea. But you know what feels undeniably better on the skinny road tires of yesteryear? Climbing. I mean I doubt Im actually any faster, but I sure feel like Im dancing up those hills on a pair of skinny deer legs:And isnt cycling ultimately about deluding yourself?0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 345 Views

- WWW.CYCLIST.CO.UKVittoria adds 38mm and 42mm widths to its Corsa Pro Control tyre rangeCyclistVittoria adds 38mm and 42mm widths to its Corsa Pro Control tyre rangeVittoria has added a 38mm and a 42mm tyre width to its Corsa Pro Control tyre range. The Corsa Pro Control was previously available in widths from 26mm up to 34mm in 2mm increments, so the two wider tyres extend the width options to seven.Vittoria claims that the new tyre widths cater for road, endurance and gravel riders and provide race-level performance on cobbles and fine gravel without compromising speed and while increasing comfort on tarmac. It reports that lab testing and rider feedback show the optimum tyre width for speed, efficiency, comfort and control is between 28mm and 30mm, widths now usually chosen by the pros. But as more bikes offer significantly wider clearance and are engineered for optimum performance with wider tyres, it says that theres a market for tyres with increased width, particularly to ride on less smooth surfaces. But the Corsa Pro Control tyre range has a tread thats 30% thicker and 13% wider than the Corsa Pro, to increase puncture protection and durability. The new widths share the existing Corsa Pro Control ranges tread pattern with a slick central band, with herringbone siping on the shoulders for grip and stability through corners. They also use the same graphene-silica compound. Vittoria isnt the only brand to launch an extra-wide road tyre, with Pirelli now offering its P Zero Race TLR in 40mm width. When we reviewed the 40mm P Zero Race TLR last year, we were impressed with the super-plush ride and greater speed than a gravel tyre on tarmac. At the same time, we found it felt ponderous on smooth roads, in part due to the 460g weight, 125g more than a 30mm P Zero Race.Vittoria states a 420g per tyre weight for the 38mm and a 480g weight for the 42mm Corsa Pro Control tyre, up from the 360g for the previously widest 34mm. As with other widths, there are tan sidewalls only and Vittoria manufactures the tyres in a carbon-neutral factory. All widths of the Corsa Pro Control tyre are priced at 95.95 / $106.99.The post Vittoria adds 38mm and 42mm widths to its Corsa Pro Control tyre range appeared first on Cyclist.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 337 Views

- BIKERUMOR.COMVittoria Corsa PRO Control Road Tires Gain Wider 38 & 42 SizesWanna make those cobbles (or the North American equivalent, potholes) disappear underneath you? The new Vittoria Corsa PRO Control 38mm and 42mm options should do just that.Designed as the more rugged sibling in their race-level Corsa PRO lineup, the Control models get additional puncture resistance with a 30% thicker and 13% wider tread patch.Theres also a narrow anti-puncture belt under the center of the tread patch, plus a bead shield to reinforce the bead from abrasion. But they still claim to be super supple, using the same 320tpi cotton-corespun casing that makes these popular road tires. The tread uses their Race Formulation rubber with Graphene and Silica mixed in for all-conditions grip. It has a progressive, v-shaped tread pattern for cornering grip, but remains solid and smooth in the center to roll faster. The new 38/42mm sizes join the existing 26/28/30/32/34mm options, and retail is set at $106.99 per tire (95.95). The tires will be available this month for everything shy of real gravel. Meaning, theyre perfect for pav, cobbles, or even hard packed, compacted gravel.Vittoria.comThe post Vittoria Corsa PRO Control Road Tires Gain Wider 38 & 42 Sizes appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 315 Views
- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMBrit sets new world record after cycling 3,826km in 7 days "He had absolutely nothing left, he was empty"Alex McCormack has set a new provisional seven-day distance world record, riding 3,826.47km in a brutal ultra-endurance effort that saw him average 18.5 hours in the saddle each day. Riding repeats of a flat 150km out-and-back route along the Moselle river in Koblenz, Germany, McCormack today surpassed the previous record of 3,813.81km set by Sprude Arvis in 2024. The new record is awaiting ratification by the World Ultra Cycling Association. McCormacks daily distances culminated in a monstrous 727.75km final day, with several days exceeding 600km. The 28-year-old Canyon-sponsored rider completed the challenge in 168 hours of near-continuous riding. The ride was made more difficult by unseasonably cold, rainy and snowy weather, forcing him to limit time off the bike to just a few hours per day for recovery, nutrition and sleep. Speaking to BikeRadar, Canyon team lead sports marketing Markus Schweikert said: "I dont know where to start it feels like its been four weeks, not seven days. "To be honest, we had a grand arrival planned, but [with the weather] we were worried he wouldnt make the record. Everyone wrote it off at some point. "Even an hour before [he finished], we werent sure he would make it it came right down to the wire. "As soon as the clock hit 7-days, he was about 4km from the end [of the 150km loop] and he stopped dead he had absolutely nothing left, he was empty. More bonkers records: Amateur cyclist rides a staggering 55,555km in one year Alex McCormacks seven-day record in 5 mind-bending numbers 3,826.47km total distance covered 168 hours ride time 18.5 hours average riding time per day 727.75km covered on the final day 14,000 calories consumed daily "We have a doctor on standby" McCormack battled terrible weather throughout the attempt. Canyon Schweikert says McCormack pushed himself to the absolute limits of endurance, with a staggering effort required to make up time lost due to the weather: "The last 48 hours were so painful he slept only an hour in the last 40 hours. Last night, he was singing karaoke with the driver [to stay awake]," "Right now hes completely passed out, and we have someone watching him 24-hours. The important thing is hes in full health though we took safety very seriously. "We have a doctor on standby, but theres no concern he had a sip of champagne, a whole glass actually when he finished the ride." Staying on top of nutrition was one of the toughest challenges. Canyon Throughout the attempt, McCormack was supported by a small crew who assisted with logistics, nutrition and recovery. He consumed an estimated 14,000 calories per day to sustain the effort. Support team member, Harry Dowdney said the poor weather forced McCormack to wear many layers, which affected his aerodynamic performance, but the challenge presented other practical challenges: The biggest thing for the support crew was to wake Alex after short naps and make sure he kept eating and drinking. There was no way he could replace those 14,000 calories. We had to constantly remind him to eat and drink, passing him food as often as we could. He rode a TT bike for the attempt. Canyon McCormack rode a custom Canyon Speedmax CFR for the whole attempt. In a build more typical of elite triathlon racing, McCormacks bike featured a high stack aero front end, integrated hydration, an aggressively nose-down saddle, lights from Exposure, and a top tube bag. A seasoned ultra-distance racer, McCormacks previous results include wins at the Atlas and Hellenic Mountain Races, as well as the Highland Trail 550. The latest record forms part of his preparation for a summer campaign targeting the Triple Crown of US ultra-distance events: the Tour Divide, Colorado Trail Race and Arizona Trail Race. He also set a Double Everesting World Record in 2025, climbing 17,732 metres in just under 21 hours. A film crew accompanied Alex on his attempt, with a documentary due to be released later this year.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 325 Views

The Millenium 4.0 sports a new look compared to the 3.0, and is offered in two versions.SixPack offers the Millenium 4.0 in Standard and Pro versions, with the major difference being weight. The Pro features a precisely machined top, helping to save weight by eliminatingunnecessary aluminum.Millenium 4.0 Pro (left) & Millenium 4.0 (right)both available in black or raw alloyThe Millenium 4.0 features a concave platform with an ultra-low profile to minimize pedal strikes. They measure 12mm at the center and 14mm at the edge, with nine pins on each side. Rather than the standard uniform pin pattern seen with most flats, SixPack uses smart pin distribution. This places more pins on the leading edge of the pedal and fewer on the heel, which is intended to provide secure traction where it is needed most.Perhaps this helps reduce weight, although a few extra pins cant weigh much. If nothing else, it obviously reduces the number of holes drilled in the pedal.More pins on the leading edgeInside the Millenium 4.0, SixPack uses a hardened CrMo Axle and two high-quality Igus J3 bushings.
