- BIKERUMOR.COM32 BMX Bike? Yup, Meet the SE Bikes Colossal Ripper 32It seems that everyone is jumping on the 32 wheeled train, including SE Bikes. The past week (before April Fools), SE Bikes introduced the Colossal Ripper 32, a bike SE is calling the biggest, baddest, and raddest BMX bike of all time. I dont know about all that, but it probably is the first 32 BMX bike thats gone to production.(Photos / SE Biks)After a year of testing, the Colossal Ripper 32 brings together BMX functionality with the larger wheel size. The frame is fabricated using 6061 aluminum Floval tubing with an integrated head tube design and internal cable routing. It also rocks the full chromoly Landing Gear fork. The SpecThe Colossal Ripper 32 comes equipped with Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes, featuring dual pistons and 180mm rotors on both the front and rear. For the drivetrain, SE specd their V-Ridge 3-piece chromoly cranks, spinning on a sealed American bottom bracket. Sprocket duty is done by the 36-tooth SE Racing sprocket. The wheelset features 36-hole alloy hubs with double-wall disc rims and a 19-tooth freewheel, wrapped in SE Bozack 32 x 2.4 tires designed for street riding. Other notable spec highlights include the new SE Colossal Ripper 32 4-piece handlebar. It measures 28.5 wide with a 10-degree backsweep and 1-degree upsweep. High polishSE BlueSE also specd their new Captive seat. It has a concave design and a built-in bottle opener. For the Colossal 32 Ripper 32 geometry, SE made sure to accommodate the larger wheels while maintaining BMX-style handling characteristics (which doesnt seem all that easy to do).Colossal 32 GeoATop Tube, Actual24.7BSeat Tube, Center To Top16.9CSeat Tube Angle71DHead Tube Angle70EChainstay Length18.9FWheelbase46GBottom Bracket Height13.7HStandover32.7Stem55mmHandlebar Width28.5Crank170mmWheel Size32Seat Post Diameter27.2mmColossal Ripper 32 Retail & DetailRetail: $1,2996061 aluminumFlovaltubing frame with integrated head tube,Looptailrear end, retro dropouts, SE Bubble BB yoke, and internal cable routingFull Cr-Mo Landing Gear forksSE V-Ridge 3-piece Cr-Mo cranks, sealed American bottom bracket, and 36T alloy SE Racing sprocketShimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes,dual-pistonwith180mmrotorsSEBozack32 x 2.4 tiresNew SE Captive seat with concave design and built-in bottle opener braceS-1E dual ply gripsSE Bikes says that thanks to the massive wheels, the Colossal Ripper 32 handles both wheelies and cruising like a champ, so hit the link below to get yours.sebikes.bikeThe post 32 BMX Bike? - BIKESNOBNYC.COMCheck The DateHey, would you look at that? Narrow bars on fixies is still a thing, go figure:Oh, wait, no it isnt:Clearly this is a rider who appreciates width:Speaking of handlebars, I was already taken in by one of those bike website April Fools jokes: It was quite an emotional rollercoaster too, since I was already outraged before I even got to the fake part:Are you a31.8mm or 35mmhandlebar type of person? Since the introduction of the larger diameter, many have asked the question: Why? Do the different sizes actually offer different ride characteristics?Wait, 35mm? When did that happen?!? I still call 31.8mm oversized, for Lobs sake!So I was already confused and angry before I even got to the fake part, which fortunately I was able to recognize because I have children:This is where Fair comes in with its new handlebar standard, combining the best of both diameters. And, obviously, combining diameters (mathematically, at least) gives you 66.8, which of course rounds up to 67.Introducing the Fair 6-7.Okay, fine, you got me. But really, where does the cycling media get off producing parody articles, anyway? Theyve got a lot of nerve being 100% ridiculous one day of the year when theyre only 99% ridiculous the other 364 days. For that matter, I also resent Jan Heine for engineering April Fools japes that are clearly just a thinly-veiled excuse to show off his superior bike-handling skills:Thats an April Fools Humblebrag, and it may be an industry first. Also, bicycle ABS is already a thing, anyway:Not to be this guy, or anything:Also, I happen to have anti-lock brakes on the Cervino:See, I have some wheels with ceramic-coated rims, and when I tried them on the Cervino I found that if I squeezed the brake lever hard enough the front pads would vibrate at juuust the right frequency that the calipers quick release would slowly open. But, as Jobst Brandt loved to point out, a single-pivot brake like this will still work in the open position, so basically it amounted to an ABS system, though I guess youd have to reset it after every hard stop by manually closing the lever.Of course I just stopped using those wheels with those bikes, but maybe I should go back to them now that I realize its a safety feature.Meanwhile, heres an April Fools-sounding story that is apparently true:As a lifelong cyclist I refuse to believe that this ridiculous time- and resource-draining activity could possibly make you smarter; if anything, Im living proof of the contrary. Then again, most of my problems are probably not the result of cycling, theyre more likely the result of too much cycling. Perhaps I should limit my cycling to 20 minutes:The study builds upon the already well-proven assertion that physical exercise improves memory and learning in rodents and humans. During the research period, however, the scientists found that participating in a pedalling exercise for 20 minutes caused ripples to occur in a part of the human brain called the hippocampus, which where memories are formed and learning happens. These ripples directly led to an improvement in the subjects performance in tests.I suspect if you graphed this youd find that the hippocampus starts rippling at 20 minutes, then at about an hour or two it starts to shudder uncontrollably. Thats when you start thinking internally routed cables and PNS jerseys are a good idea. Anything beyond that and youre flirting with complete and total cognitive breakdown, which is why endurance cyclists do stuff like try to sneak into Russia:Its like that Spinal Tap scene where he tries to get back into the pod at the end. Also, he could totally have gone backwards if he had ridden a fixie:Finally, thats it, your bike is officially obsolete:Yes, 32-inch wheels are happening whether you like it or not:Were always looking for gains in this sport, Day said. This is just our due diligence. We saw on paper that there was quite a big advantage to go 32: increased rollover, bigger contact patch, extra volume that can lead to potential reduction in operating pressures. Theres a lot of benefits to the wheel size. Then it just becomes how to package it in frames. And there is room for mixed-wheel applications.Mixed-wheel applications?!? Bring it on!I cant wait to start mocking the woosies on their safety bicycles0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 393 Просмотры
