- BIKERUMOR.COMNew Saris Cycle-On Hitch Rack Adds On Ramp for Heavy e-BikesEbikes are great for getting more people on two wheels, but theres one major flaw theyre often heavy bikes that make it more difficult to get them on a bike rack. Fortunately, there are new racks like the Saris Cycle-On 2-Bike Hitch Rack, which takes an easy platform-style bicycle carrier and adds telescoping ramps so you can roll those heavy e-bikes right onto it.Its rated for up to 70 pounds per bike (140 pounds total), meaning it works with almost anything on the market (looking at you, super-fun fat-tired Aventon Aventure M).The telescoping ramps click-to-attach to the ends of the trays, connecting to either end so you can roll the bike on from the left or right. The telescoping aspect adjusts the length for different vehicle heights, so you wont end up with a too-steep angle on taller trucks & SUVs. You will need to stow the ramp in the vehicle when not in use; it doesnt slide into the rack or anything. When youre not transporting bikes, the rack folds flat against the vehicle if you keep it mounted. Or, take it off, fold the trays up, and use the integrated wheels to roll it into your garage. The rack tilts downward, too, easing trunk access without removing bikes or the rack.A tool-free anti-wobble system uses a hand-tightened knob to secure the rack to the hitch receiver using a locking threaded pin design. The Cycle-On rack fits bikes with wheels measuring 20 to 32 inches (with fenders) and tire widths up to 4 inches. The rack weighs 53 pounds and has lockable ratchet straps to secure bicycles during transport (and during pit stops).MSRP is $899.99, and its available now in both 1.25 and 2 receiver models and is RV-certified for Class A, B, and C motorhomes.Saris.comThe post New Saris Cycle-On Hitch Rack Adds On Ramp for Heavy e-Bikes appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 343 Visualizações
- BIKESNOBNYC.COMSlowly Cobbling It TogetherThe older I get the more I realize how little I know. This is especially true when it comes to bikes and cycling. In fact, most of what I know Ive learned from the comments section of my own blog. For instance, yesterday I mentioned that road rage incident, and I had no idea the bunnyhopper was none other than the U23 Criterium National Champion:Moreover, I had no idea there was even still such a thing as criteriums. I thought the last gasp of criterium racing as a discipline was the fixed-gear crit, a short-lived craze that ended much like this video:From there on in it was gravel gravel gravel, and that was that. But I suppose criterium racing must still be a thing, even though almost nobodys even interested in it anymore. Kind of like canned tuna:Or this blog.Oh, and speaking of road rage:Why is there not a mandatory waiting period and an Automated Mental Health Background Check for anyone purchasing a German luxury automobile?Anyway, at first this story sounds like your garden variety road rage incident:Vernon shouted that the bicyclist dont live on that street and they had no reason to tell her to slow down. The male bicyclist indicated he was going to obtain the license plate number of the Mercedes, prompting Vernon to pull into a driveway, re-enter the roadway and accelerate backward toward the pair. The bicyclists scuttled into another driveway to avoid being hit. The bicyclists filled out sworn statements for the police. But it soon takes an unexpected turn:When an officer showed up at Vernons house and tried to place her in handcuffs, she tried to flee into her house. The officer attempted to grab her hand, but she hit a wall and fell to the ground. She continued to try to pull away from the officer. She told him she needed to use the restroom and soiled her pants. She left skid marks at both the scene of the confrontation and the scene of the arrest.Something else I didnt know until I read my own comments section was that Jan Heine, the EF Hutton of bicycle tires (thats a reference for the canned tuna-eating generation), says TPU tubes are the fastest:Though if youre not sure whether you should use butyl tubes or TPU tubes you could always use PTU tubes and split the difference:And no, Im not making fun of him for making a typo. I make like 20 typos on a good day. Look, what do you even want from me? You can have a post every day, or you can have no typos. Think of this as the butyl tube of cycling websites: far from perfect, but at least it gets the job done. But yes, Jan Heine says TPU is faster than everything, even tubeless, so thats it, case closed, hes the last word on everything, dont question it:The performance benefits of TPU tubes are real and borne out in real-road tests. If anything, TPU tubes perform even better in the real world, with a rider on the bike, than in lab tests on steel drumsa phenomenon also observed with supple tires. TPU tubes are as fast as ultra-thin latex tubes. TPU tubes are significantly faster than butyl tubes or tubeless setups. (They are also stronger, lighter and offer better ride feel than butyl tubes.) Based on these results, we went ahead with the development of our Rene Herse TPU tubes, confident that they would provide a real-world benefit for us and our customers.Though if you read enough Jan Heine you know hes got a real problem with steel drums, which frankly seems unwarranted:What, youve got a problem with the sweet sounds of calypso and being aurally whisked away to the Caribbean or something?Jeez, Jan, lighten up.Meanwhile, its Classics Season, which marks the start of the racing season, and also the European protest season:So be sure to consult Jan Heine for the best way to glue yourself to the cobbles this year: Come on, everyone knows youve got to let the glue cure for at least 24 hours:According to the races organisers Golazo, Mouton had intended to glue himself to the cobblestones as the peloton approached in asimilar manner to the Scottish climate activists who briefly halted the mens road race at the 2023 Glasgow world championships but failed to do so in time, and was ejected from the course by security, moments before the riders reached him.Mouton, indeed. But at least he was wearing a helmet. At this point, having confessed to you just how little I know, I should probably also confess that Ive never seen the film A Sunday In Hell. I admit this is like being a film buff and never having seen The Godfather, or being Italian and never having seen The Godfather. However, I am finally getting around to remedying that, and have been watching it in pieces on a popular video hosting website. Anyway, if youve seen the movie, that years Paris-Roubaix also began with a protest:In this case they were print shop workers:Theyre demonstrating against one of the sponsors of the race, the newspaper Le Parisien Libere, and they are protesting against the redundancies of the operators on linotype as a result of automation. Its a long-standing labour conflict and the organisers of the race are not entirely unprepared.50 years later and half of what you read hasnt even been written by a human, much less printed on paper.OK, thats it, Im going for a ride.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 437 Visualizações

- BIKERUMOR.COMThis is What a 1 Million Dollar Custom Titanium Road Bike Looks Like in TaipeiWhy does it cost so much? We first asked if the NT$1M price wasnt a typo. It wasnt.Sure, it is a pretty slick looking bike. Super integrated. Lots of aero frame sections and sharp edges that you can only really make with this type of fully 3D-printed, aka additive manufacturing construction. (All photos/Cory Benson)And this is probably the thinnest toptube weve ever spotted sorry Titici. But a custom Chinese-made titanium road bike couldnt really cost so much to produce, no matter how much 3D-printed ti tech is baked inside. Right? So we kept digging. It turns out, the story is a bit more complex.NT$1,000,000 custom 3D-printed ti Laget Aero One road bikeYes, this is a super custom bike thats going to cost you a lot of money. And it isnt cheap or easy to make. Of course, designing the internal structure is a huge a part as variable wall thicknesses when creating a bike with such complex outer shapes and such thin cross sections. Plus, it is made to measure, both in geometry/fit and in the strength/stiffness required by each buyer. Then, it is actually printed in two separate parts. TSB welds it together, then carefully ground the welds smooth so that they disappear as one piece. But for its high cost, more of an issue is it being hard to get anywhere out of TSBs home in China.Laget TSB connectionYou see, Laget-branded bikes are the flagship of TSB Technology, a titanium bike maker based in China that manufactures for many other bike companies, probably including several bikes weve ridden or reported on. I know that, because the TSB sales manager that I spoke with today said she read about one of the bikes that they produced in an article I wrote. Without being sure (and with explicitly no confirmation from either TSB or the end-consumer brand), I would guess that she meant a Czech company that rhymed with a gator, if only based on the bottom bracket design I saw on one of TSBs other custom sample frames on display at Taipei Cycle. But Ive written about enough 3D-printed or just titanium bikes in the last year or two that there could be a number of other bikes she was alluding to.Assuming my guess was correct, or it was another fatter ti bike, Ive probably ridden a TSB-made titanium bike quite a lot off road. And Im always a bit brutal to ti bikes just because I know they can take it. And they often become my go-to benchmark test mules for a lot of off-road components. TSB arent an open mold producer per se, but rather work with bike designers to build unique custom bikes that can be sold at usually affordable prices.Custom ti bikes means slick details these daysLaget is a different story as this is an in-house brand they created to highlight their unique ti manufacturing capabilities, but generally limited to sales in China. But for the right price and/or the right quantities, theyll pretty much work with anyone anywhere in the world looking to build a unique ti bike.So they created this Laget Aero One aero road bike, and effectively said the 1700g frameset should sell for around $9-10,000 US. Then they built it up as a complete bike to show off at the Taipei Cycle show this week, and needed to give it a price. Its a fairly fancy build at 7.9kg complete, but not entirely top-tier. It totally could have been listed for NT$400-600k. But that wouldnt factor in the hassles of individually fitting & customizing a bike in Taiwan for them to go back to China to produce (remember, they mostly sell production batches of bikes, not one-off projects.) So it they priced it like that, there would probably be several potential Taiwanese customers who would be willing to have one made. And who would remember a pricetag like that?So Laget settled on an even million in New Taiwan dollars. You wont forget that number. (Insert Dr. Evil smirk.)Laget Aero One availability is limited, but thats intentionalNow, if someone in Taiwan decides to buy one, theyll get a very exclusive bike with an exclusive custom experience to match. And in the meantime, the whole bike industry just learned that TSB can create even more extremely sleek and more integrated titanium bikes than we already knew they could produce. Plus, their advanced 3D-printed capabilities could likely open up even more possibilities for bike brands looking for a ti frame manufacturing partner, even it they had only been thinking about 3D-printe dropouts or headtubes.Well keep our eyes peeled for more refined ti bikes to come across our inboxes and workbenches.TSBcycles.comThe post This is What a 1 Million Dollar Custom Titanium Road Bike Looks Like in Taipei appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 350 Visualizações
