- BIKESNOBNYC.COMUnexpected GiftsAs a semi-professional bike blogger and the Old Crap Test Pilot, I am in the privileged position of receiving all manner of exotic bicycles for my delectation:Ive really been enjoying this bike, and I suspect Paul takes great satisfaction in having turned me into a full-on wool-clad vintage Campy-shifting retrogrouch, only to send me an over-the-top crabo-tanium STI-equipped wondersled that has me questioning my values and everything I thought I stood for.Yesterday however I was in the novel position of receiving a classic bike from someone else.It all started last November, and heres the grossly oversimplified story: basically someone emailed me and said, Do you want my old bike? So I said, Yes! Then some time went by, during which I decided to get rid of a bunch of bikes instead of acquiring more. So I emailed him back and said, I changed my mind, no thanks! And that was thatuntil last week when he said, Oops, its coming anyway!, and yesterday it arrived via a Bikeflights/UPS collabo. Please note that I in no way mean to sound ungrateful, and there are way, way worse problems to have than people sending you bicycles. The bike was packed a little morecasually than Im used to, and if Im to be totally honest I admit I was half-expecting a cat to leap out:Fortunately there were no cats inside, or if there were they hadnt survived the journey and posed no immediate danger:All of this is to say opening a box of newspaper containing a grimy bike was a lot different from receiving a pristine museum piece from Classic Cycle, though its probably pretty close to the way Paul feels when he receives a bike back from me.And heres that bike:It needs work, but its got very good bones:Shifters are the pointy-topped Campagnolo Chorus:While the newer Campagnolo Ergo levers look like Cthulhu, the older ones look more like a friendly elephant:The hoods are in tatters, but the mechanisms appear to be functional:The rest of the drivetrain is a mix of Chorus and bits from other groups:And the gearing is what youd expect from a race bike this era:Hey, it may seem high now, but that 39-tooth small ring is luxurious compared to a 42.Wheels seem to be true, if grimy:And while the finish has its share of chips and scrapes and sort of evokes mildew in hew its obviously a very fine frame:Heres the Columbus sticker for you Tubing Freds:Insert your princess-and-the-pea, highly-attuned-scranus description of the ride attributes of this particular tubeset here:But I know you will anyway. And no, while the bracket and sensor are there, it did not come with the Sigma computer:Though I should probably check to make sure its not buried under that newspaper. In any case, its clearly a project, and one I dont really have time for:Though Ill make time for it anyway, at least get it rideable, and see where things go from there:Ill keep you posted.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 145 Views
- WWW.CYCLIST.CO.UKAndorra is cycling at its peakCyclistAndorra is cycling at its peakAndorra might just be cycling paradise. Nestled between France and Spain right in the thick of the Pyrenees, the principality is just 468km but it has 21 marked mountain passes, which have played host to Tour de France and Vuelta a Espaa stages for over 50 years. On top of that, theres an ever-expanding network of mountain bike routes; it hosts UCI MTB World Cups every year and will welcome the World Championships in 2024.Its also the perfect destination for altitude training, with the countrys lowest point sitting at 840m above sea level and its highest almost 3,000m. Theres little wonder why its tiny population includes a large number of pro cyclists. Thanks to cyclings popularity in Andorra, its set up perfectly for cyclotourists, with signposted routes, bike-friendly hotels, restaurants and cafs and even a museum and cycling centre in Bici Lab Andorra Museum, which features exhibits of cyclings past, present and future. On the roadAny fans of pro cycling will be familiar with some of Andorras legendary road climbs, which have featured countless times in both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espaa. There are a total of 21 mountain passes and yes that is a challenge that take in stunning switchbacks and sensational scenery, its really a playground for road cycling. To name just a few to tick off your next trip: Sant Juli de Lria has three classics in La Rabassa, the Coll de la Gallina and La Peguera; Andorra resident Sepp Kuss conquered the hairpin bends on the Port dEnvalira and the Col de Beixalis on his way to a famous win at the 2021 Tour; and you cant forget the legendary pass of the Coll dOrdino and the sculpture-topped Port del Cabs. You can spend weeks riding in Andorra and ride a new climb every day. Just make sure to look up because the scenery is definitely worth the struggle of the ride. But theres more to Andorra than tarmac.Off pisteAndorra is a regular on the pro mountain bike circuit the UCI World Cup takes over at the end of August and the Pal Arinsal resort will host the UCI MTB World Championships in 2024. Pal Arinsal is one of three dedicated parks for mountain bikers to discover, with endless trails for all kinds of riding and all levels of ability, the others being Naturland Bike Center and Grandvalira. And because Andorra is a popular winter sports destination, the ski runs become unmissable off-road descents when the snow melts.Given the extent of both the road and off-road routes, Andorra is an ideal place for cycle touring it even has a signposted e-bike trail that takes riders around 94km of Grandvalira, and of course a motor is a blessing when you have to head back up into the mountains. For all the familyWhile Andorras infrastructure means its possible to have a bike-centred holiday for all the family, there is of course plenty more to do. Its unsurprisingly a great place to hike, and in winter its a haven for winter sports-lovers. For even more adrenaline there are endless signposted and equipped climbing routes, plus five canyons to try your hand at canyoneering. For a calmer day out, Andorra is also home to Europes highest golf course. While there are 21 passes in Andorra, there are around 80 mountains to explore in total, with more than 100 signposted trails to hike that cross the whole of Andorra, including one that loops 120km around the country in seven parts. There are also loads of trail running routes if cycling isnt tough enough for you.The forests are also humming with activity, including zip-lining, tobogganing, archery, and horse and pony riding. There are loads of incredible panoramic viewpoints, and cable cars to help you reach the top (perfect for a rest day). There are trails just for kids, too. The Macarulla are easy loops packed with activities, hidden treasures and magic. They blend fun with education about the nature and and culture of the local area including its association with myths, legends and magical characters. Theres also magic in the tamarros, which are legendary creatures in Andorran folklore that protect the countryside; there are at least seven of them around Andorra and your children will be rewarded for helping to find their magic portals.Alongside that there are plenty of hiking routes that are child-friendly, including around the many beautiful lakes around the country such as Estanys de Tristaina in Ordino and Llac dEngolasters near Andorra La Vella. There is a wealth of nature to see the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its natural beauty, while Ordino is recognised as a UNESCO biosphere reserve and has been named best tourist village by the World Tourism Organisation for its commitment to nature and the environment. Ordino is also home to the Sorteny Nature Park, which has an incredible selection of flora and fauna that you can see on guided tourist routes that focus on birds, butterflies, wetlands, glacial circus countryside and ancient forests. The other must-see park is the Comapedrosa Nature Park in la Massana, which includes Andorras highest peak, the Pic del Comapedrosa, and is a Starlight Destination and Reserve, meaning its view of the night sky is protected. Being so high up the scenery includes forests, lakes and even waterfalls, which you can see via hikes, bikes and horseback, it also has plenty of family-friendly activities and mountain huts that have eating options and places to stay. For cyclists in fact, for anyone that loves being outdoors youd be hard pressed to find a better place for a summer getaway. For more information visit www.visitandorra.com and @andorraworldThe post Andorra is cycling at its peak appeared first on Cyclist.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 144 Views
- BIKERUMOR.COMErgon SR Tri Series is Squarely For Power ProductionErgon is blasting into the Triathlon market with a forward (and mid) thinking saddle. The all-new SR Tri series is Ergons first triathlon-focused saddle, and they called in the big guns to make sure they got it right the first time. The Ergon SR Tri saddle series aims for maximum performance and comfort. The Ergon team developed the new saddle with Olympic, three-time Ironman World Champion Jan Frodeno and two-time Ironman European Champion Laura Philipp. What is it? Ergon SR Tri Series for TriathletesPhoto: VillellaAfter many (many) miles of research rides, pressure mapping, and fit data, the team coined the Power Position Concept. Dividing all athletes into front or mid-seat types. I gravitate to the nose of the saddle no matter what the fit. The improvements (via Ergon research) showed less muscle fatigue, translating to better bike performance and a faster run time.Image: Ergon The Ergon SR Tri Series introduces four saddles with the Power Position system, all dividing athletes into two sitting positionsfront and mid sitters. Mid (left) and Front (right) position saddles (mens version) Photo: Cory Benson The overall idea is to reduce (or evenly distribute) the pressure between the rider and the saddle in the aero position. The design allows riders to make subtle changes while in the aero position. This shaping allows for more evenly distributed pressure over longer rides and reduces muscle fatigue and discomfort. The Power Position SystemErgon foregoes saddle widths and went purely for sit preference. The team deems the saddle width conversation irrelevant in an aero position because of the pelvic tilt and position of the rider in the TT position. The SR Tri Men Front and SR Tri Women Front saddles are designed for riders who significantly tilt their pelvis forward, while the SR Tri Mid saddles are for athletes with less forward pelvis tilt. The concept is similar to other manufacturers; Fizik comes to mind with the Bull, Chameleon, and Snake spine concepts.Mens/Womens Specific DesignPhoto: Cory Benson Ergon takes Ergonomics seriouslyits part of its name. The design team felt the new SR Tri saddles needed a gender-specific design. The saddles are ergonomically adapted to male and female anatomy, giving more or less padding where the saddle hits in an aero position.Mid (left) and front (right) womens version of the Ergon SR Tri saddle. Photo: Cory Benson The SR Tri saddles feature pressure-relieving Orthopedic Comfort Foam for maximum long-distance comfort, reducing genital numbness and creating homogenous pressure distribution. The SR Tri Women models incorporate 3D-printed inserts in the relief channels forward area, enhancing female athletes comfort. From the Seat to the Feet Photo: Cory Benson The compact saddle shapes of the SR Tri series allow for improved ergonomics when pedaling, and an open hip angle. This design helps promote efficient energy use for more power and endurance, especially when prepping for the run transition.Key Features Ergon SR TriThe full line of Ergon SR Tri saddles. We saw the saddle at Sea Otter Classic, under veiled booth access, which made it an excellent lure and aroused my curiosity. From looking at it in the package, the Ergon SR Tri appears to be a short-nosed, highly padded saddle. Once you move the saddle around in your hand and examine the side profile, you notice a unique shape in the nose and mid. This slight hump in the middle of the saddle is more pronounced on the mid but is still there on the front sitter saddle option.Ample Padding and HeightErgon SR Tri side profile Mid version, note the slight bump in the middle. Photo: Cory BensonAfter weighing (242g for mid) and examining each Ergon SR Tri saddle I landed on the Mid as my first ride. The nose of the saddle is slightly narrower than the front by about 5mm. This 48mm nose mimics the PRO Stealth I switched from. The padding on the Ergon SR Tri is plentiful, to say the least. It reminds me of the Wove saddle options we recently reviewed. The tall padding also allows for some independent movement and lots of support.Ergon SR Tri side profile front version Photo: Cory BensonRail-wise, the Ergon SR Tri offers a large range of fore-aft adjustments. I found myself slammed slightly forward to get the position I wanted. Granted, this initial test ride was on my road bike, not a TT rigyet.Power Production Photo: Cory Benson Pedaling and riding-wise, the SR Tri offers many of the same sensations youd expect from a TT and Tri-focused saddle. The pelvis feels the best when tilted forward, and the saddle feels like it is pushing into a more tucked position.I appreciated the padding and the slight hump in the middle of the saddle. The hump kept my hips in position. I can see this help riders dial in pelvis tilt desired, acting more like a hinge and a pivot point.Power-wise, I felt comfortable, and the sensation of an open hip and hip movement was quickly noted. It felt very similar to the sensation of the Wove saddle (with less support), and I could see the benefit when in the TT/Tri position. The saddle material feels standard to what Ergon offers but with a slightly more tactical feel. This grippier cover (when compared with most) keeps the rider in the power position without slipping or migrating from their optimum position. However, the Ergon SR Tri allows slight micro-adjustments when riding tucked and locked in. Adjustments are something that I find hard to perform on other aero-focused saddles, mainly when lots of pelvic pressure is applied.Full Review Coming SoonLook for a full review with help from our TT and Tri friends. Until then, I have to say my impressions of the Ergon SR Tri (mid) were very favorable. I still need some more time to give a full review, but as of now, I enjoyed my time in the saddle. If youre looking to purchase an Ergon SR Tri, they are available for purchase atErgonbike.comThe post Ergon SR Tri Series is Squarely For Power Production appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 141 Views

- BIKERUMOR.COMRidley Grifn RS Does All-Road Lighter, Faster & E-Grifn Adds Hub Motor Gravel Pedal-AssistRidleys do-it-all all-road to fast gravel Grifn family just got a lot bigger with a lighter, faster carbon Grifn RS, a more affordable alloy Grifn A, and an e-Grifn ebike. Even the original carbon Grifn adds more sizes to fit smaller riders. Ridley saw a great response from their bike that rides fast like a road bike but has the comfort and ability to go anywhere like a gravel bike. So, theyve doubled down on Grifns for everybody2024 Ridley Grifn RS carbon gravel and all-roads race bikeLast seasons Grifn was a success for the Belgian bike maker, slotting into a wider tire all-road category that manages to slip back and forth from tarmac to fast gravel. While its certainly not an adventure gravel bike leave that for the Kanzo ADV the Grifn offered real-world versatility. Now, this new Ridley Grifn RS is everything that Grifn was, just lighter and faster.Whats new?(Photos/Ridley)At first glance, the two bikes are almost indistinguishable. But the new Ridley Grifn RS does add some more aero tweaks for a claimed 5% less wind resistance at 36km/hr over the Grifn. Its mostly just a deeper aero D-shaped seatpost and aerodynamic seattube with a tiny rear wheel cutout. Because from an aero perspective, the Grifn already had the integrated fully internal cable routing, aero-optimized front end, and dropped aero seatstays. But the new RS also manages to shed a bunch of weight thanks to a higher-mode carbon layup, even with the boosted aero shaping. The new Grifn RS frameset is said to be a full 195g lighter than the standard Grifn. With the new Ridley Grifn RS frame at a claimed 826g (unpainted medium), plus 414g for the fork. And it even edges up an extra couple of millimeters of tire clearance to 700 x 42mm tires. That pushes it over the edge to real fast gravel race capabilities really. And Ridley says the all-road bike is actually a Race Proven Gravel platform too, care of their Classified Ridley Factory TeamInto the detailsThe Grifn RS builds off the original with a diffuser fork crown design that is meant to smoothly direct airflow around the spinning front tire and around the downtube for lower aerodynamic drag. All of the Ridley Grifns are built for versatility (including the Grifn AL & e-Grifn below). So you get things like full coverage fender mounts, and wiring ports to route integrated dynamo-powered front and rear lighting. The bikes all feature adaptable cage mounting without going full adventure mode. You get 3-bolt mounts on top & bottom of the downtube, and on the seattube so you can mount anything cages or just put your regular bottles exactly where you want them. Ridley also includes a recessed toptube bag mount that gets a flush cover if you dont need it. But it also means the most stable & secure bag mounting weve ever tried, if you do use a bolt-on bag. Similarly, the new Grifn RS (and E-Grifn) gets a removable front derailleur mount with a flush cover for smooth 1x or 2x setups. Or even a direct mount Wolf Tooth Lone Wolf aero chain guide made just for Ridley. Cable routing is internal through the headset, with CeramicSpeed SLT bearings for lifetime durability, and mechanical (1x-only) or electronic compatibility. Plus, a universal derailleur hanger (UDH).Gravel-inspired All-Road Race GeometryThe new RS comes in a wide 6 size range (XXS-XL), with gravel-inspired geometry that is identical to the original Grifn that debuted last year. Riding that bike, I found the 72 headtube and short Reach + longer cockpit combo to be a bit quicker than their gravel-racing Kanzo family, without going for the full road race feel. The 420mm chainstays are certainly in between too, making this feel quite quick when off-tarmac once you max out the tires that will fit in the Grifn.Riding the same geo on the Grifn, road handling felt neutral and stable. While gravel riding just felt quick. Now with less weight and improved aerodynamics, you are just going to go even faster on- or off-road.Ridley Grifn RS Availability & optionsThe new Grifn RS is fully customizable now with Ridleys online bike builder, and buyers can pick from road-leaning builds with 32mm slicks or gravel-leaning builds with 40mm tires. Pick multiple wheelset options, various 1 or 2-piece cockpit options, flare or no flare, in addition to regular groupset spec choices. Or a Classified Powershift 2-speed internally geared rear hub option. You can even get matching aero bikepacking bags or full-coverage fenders with your complete bike build.Framesets start from 5000, and complete Shimano 105 Di2 builds from just 5260.2024 Ridley Grifn A affordable aluminum alloy gravel and all-road bikeJust like the new Grifn RS and previous Grifn carbon bikes, an all-new aluminum Grifn A delivers the same do-it-all all-road versatility. Road bike speed with gravel bike fat tire comfort, grip, and mixed-surface riding flexibility. And of course, now at an even lower price level.Ridley built the Grifn A as a lightweight triple-butted 6061-T6 aluminum frame, with a claimed weight of 1542g (M, unpainted). Even with the rare UDH in an alloy frame. It features the same 445g full carbon tapered fork of the standard Grifn. Here max tire size is limited to 38mm to keep the same geometry with a 2x or 40mm with a 1x drivetrain. That limits the gravel abilities of it a bit. But its still meant to be a mixed-surface bike, just leaning more towards the all-road category. And leaving affordable gravel to the adventure-ready Kanzo A.It comes in the same 6 sizes as the RS (XXS-XL), and in road or gravel-leaning bike builds. All are customizable like the more expensive bikes in the Ridley bike builder. Framesets start from 1000, and complete GRX 210 builds from 2000.More sizes for the standard Ridley Grifn, tooIts a relatively minor update for the original Grifn, but a big boon for smaller riders. The 2024 Ridley Grifn adds two new sizes XXXS & XXS bringing the size range up to 7 sizes for the do-it-all carbon all-road bike. More riders on versatile bikes is a good thing for sure.Ridleys first performance-focused ebike is the all-road E-GrifnLastly, with the all-new E-Grifn, Ridley debuts their first ebike designed for performance riding. Again, as an all-surface all-road ebike. The carbon ebike here is powered by a Mahle X20 rear hub motor and a 350Wh internal battery, and the option for an extra 171Wh range extender external bottle battery.Geometry is again identical to the rest of the Grifn family, with max 42mm tire clearance like the new carbon RS. Really the biggest differences here in the carbon ebike version are the slightly larger downtube to house the battery, which means Ridley couldnt include the same 3-pack cage mounts, or the lack of toptube bag mounts because thats where the Mahle display controller is located.Again, gravel & road builds are offered, with mechanical or electronic shifting. You can still customize your build online, and even add all the accessories like the rest of the Grifn all-road bike family. Complete ebikes with GRX 212 or 105 mechanical start at 5500.Ridley-Bikes.comThe post Ridley Grifn RS Does All-Road Lighter, Faster & E-Grifn Adds Hub Motor Gravel Pedal-Assist appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 140 Views
