- BIKERUMOR.COMPodcast #100 Silca Explains Strip Chips, Chain Waxing & More!Silcas Josh Poertner gets his new product ideas from the craziest places.Take the new Strip Chips, for example. These hot melt chain wax additives were inspired by the food industry, where theyre trying to find a replacement for trans fats and hydrogenated oils. Turns out, they can make it a whole lot easier to wax your chain, too, by eliminating the need to degrease your chain before waxing! In this episode, we geek out on how that product works, the nuances of wax temperatures for proper chain waxing, and talk a lot about where his ideas come from, what else hes excited about, and why his stuff costs more than everyone elses.I always love talking to Josh, and I think youre going to really enjoy this one, too.Want More?Find every episode of the BikeRumor Podcast on Apple Podcasts,Spotify, Podbean, and through RSS, or wherever you listen to podcasts!Hit like, hit subscribe, and hit play! - BIKERUMOR.COMFirst Look at Boyds Woven Carbon RimsJust before Sea Otter, Munich Composites announced the opening of a new factory in South Carolina where theyll make woven carbon fiber bicycle rims using resin transfer molding (RTM) construction. Boyd Cycling founder Boyd Johnson is part of the group thats bringing them here and is the first to show off a prototype rim and sock using the technology. While these are early samples, they show off some of whats possible with the technology. The rims main structure is woven as a tube, which gives them a high degree of control over fiber placement, type, and eventual thickness. Then other carbon fiber sections can be added where needed during layup, but the overall structure is one piece with continuous fibers running all the way around the rim.The sock is dry carbon, but can be laid into the mold with pre-preg sections typically used in other rims or bike frames. Once in the mold, resin is pumped in under high pressure to soak the dry fibers, and heat helps cure it.They also had the brightest outfits for the show.BoydCycling.comThe post First Look at Boyds Woven Carbon Rims appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 134 Views

- BIKERUMOR.COMNew Thule ReVert Hanging Hitch Rack Basically Lifts ItselfThule isnt one to rush into things, often delaying new hitch racks to put them through longer, more rigorous testing. Its why weve basically never had a problem with anything weve tested from them, and why their racks often seem overbuilt. Its also why they are (almost) the last major rack brand to enter the vertical hanging bike rack category. Come Fall, thatll change with the new Thule ReVert Vertical Bike Rack. And it introduces a clever new feature to make it super easy to lift and lower.Available in 4-bike ($899) and 6-bike ($1,099), its off-road rated and carries up to 55 pounds per bike. For the 4-bike model, thats a total of 220 pounds, and the rack itself weighs 73 pounds. The 6-bike rack has a maximum load of 250lbs, so if you have it fully loaded, your per-bike weight allowance will be a bit lower. Rack weight is 88lbs. For four bikes, though, the limit easily allows it to carry lightweight eMTBs.The unique feature is the Dual TiltAssist Damper, which makes it extremely easy to lift and lower no matter how many bikes you have on it.The gas shock is so strong youll need to physically pull the rack down to lower it, where itll stay put while you access the back of your vehicle or load bikes. Then, just give it a nudge and it basically lifts itself up, even when fully loaded. Its operated with a large paddle lever near the top, so its easy to reach even if the rack is fully loaded. Pull it down to release it and pull the rack down, and then pull it again and let go and itll lift the rack for you.The wheel trays are carefully angled so as not to put too much of a twisting force on the wheel, fork, or frame. They say some racks they tested ended up damaging the wheels on big bumps because the angle at which theyre held is too severe. But they needed a little bit of an angle to help the handlebars nest together.Wheels are held in place with thick rubber straps bolted into the cross bars. Theyll have adapters available to fit smaller wheels for carrying kids bikes, too. Available in September, it has attachment points for their looped cable lock (sold separately).Thule Santu Hitch Rack-Mounted Cargo CaseThe new Thule Santu cargo case adds 11 cubic feet of storage to their Epos bike racks. Its rated to carry up to 100 pounds. A locking lid keeps your goods secure. It straps around the beams on the Epos Rack, making it relatively quick and easy to install. Thule says its easy enough to be practical, but not so easy that someone can quickly unstrap and steal itit takes just enough work to make it an unlikely victim of crimes of convenience. It covers two bike trays, so itll leave one bike spot open for your bike closest to the car on a three-bike rack. The straps are bolted to the case from the inside, where youll also find tie-down straps to secure the cargo inside. MSRP is $799, available in August 2024.Thule.comThe post New Thule ReVert Hanging Hitch Rack Basically Lifts Itself appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Commentarii 0 Distribuiri 137 Views
