La Vuelta Femenina 2024: Route, how to watch, start list and everything you need to know
CyclistLa Vuelta Femenina 2024: Route, how to watch, start list and everything you need to knowAfter the rush of the Classics, stage racing has returned. The Vuelta Femenina 2024 will begin on 28th April with eight stages on the cards, ending on a Madrid mountaintop on 5th May. Excitingly, the Vuelta Femenina will be the first of the womens three Grand Tours in 2024.In a race that went down to the wire on the final mountain stage, Annemiek van Vleuten took the title last year ahead of Demi Vollering (SD Worx) and Gaia Realini (Trek-Segafredo). Now retired, Annemiek van Vleutens red jersey will be up for grabs in 2024.SD Worx-Protimes Demi Vollering will enter the race as favourite. After missing out on the maillot rojo by just nine seconds in 2023, Vollering has only matured in her racing. Now the reigning Tour de France Femmes champion, the Dutchwoman will enter the first Grand Tour of the year with a large target on her back. That said, the spring Classics were somewhat underwhelming for the Dutch national champion.Elsewhere, Elisa Longo-Borghini and last years third place finisher Realini will head up a strong Lidl-Trek squad aiming for the final podium. Elsewhere, Spanish hopes will be pinned upon their national champion, Mavi Garca, who now rides for Liv-AlUla-Jayco. Starting with a team time-trial, the race offers something for the sprinters, puncheurs and the mountain goats. Heading from Valencia in the direction of Madrid, the race will take place mostly in the north-east of Spain.Stage 1: Valencia Valencia, 16km (TTT)The opening stage of the Vuelta Femenina will take the riders on a team time-trial around Valencia. TTTs are few and far between on the Womens WorldTour, so this may throw the cat amongst the pigeons. Last year, Jumbo-Visma took the TTT title on day one.Stage 2: Buol/Bunyol Moncofa 118.5kmStage 2, the first road stage, will take the riders northwards from Bunyol to the Moncofa on the coast. This 115km long test looks certain for a grandstand sprint finish.Stage 3: Lucena/Llucena Teruel, 130.5kmFrom the coast, we head in-land for Stage 3. Setting out from Lucena, the race will tackle a tough rolling proifile up to Teruel, the home of Dinpolis, a pre-historic themed amusement park. In a finale that could see any kind of scenario, Stage 3 is a real wildcard to predict.Stage 4: Molina de Aragn Zaragoza, 142.5kmThe fourth stage will dive deep into the Aragn region. Known for its spices and castles, this region will host a plainly flat affair. A largely downhill profile could promise a fast finale for the peloton as the fight for the green jersey continues.Stage 5: Huesca Jaca, 114kmHuesca will see the flag drop for stage 5 of the Vuelta Femenina. On a day with several climbing obstacles, the race promises to be pivotal in the fight for the overall lead. A tough finale up to the Fuerte de Rapitn, a fortress above the city of Jaca. With an Alpe dHuez-like set of hairpins to tackle, this finish should not be underestimated, with an average gradient of 7.9%. This test was used by the mens Vuelta back in 2012. On that occasion, the mountain brought forward a dual between Joaquim Rodrguez and Chris Froome.Stage 6: Tarazona La Laguna Negra (Vinuesa), 132.5kmThe climbing continues on Stage 6 from Tarazona to La Laguna Negra. The 130km long stage mostly takes place over the 1,000m altitude marker, but the final test up to the black lake will take the riders up to 1715m above sea level. The final test to the finish line will last 6.5km at an average gradient of 6.8% this warrants a Category 1 status.Stage 7: San Esteban de Gormaz Sigenza, 139kmDespite its flat appearance, Stage 7 has been given the title of a hilly stage by the race organisers. The approach to the line in Sigenza has a sting in the tail with a 500m ramp over 8%. With this, the real puncheurs will finally have their chance to shine on the penultimate stage of this years Vuelta Femenina.Stage 8: Distrito Telefnica Valdesqu, 89.5kmThe best has certainly been saved for last at the 2024 Vuelta Femenina. The final day of racing is no procession, it is an 89km mountain stage covering two first-category peaks.Beginning at the headquarters of Telefonica, the company that owns Movistar, the race will move into the mountains around Madrid. First, the Morcuera will be negotiated before the final challenge of the whole race, the Puerto de Cotos. Lasting 12.8km at 4.8% gradient, the Cotos will allow for one last GC shake-up before the champion is crowned on the mountainside in Valdesqu.La Vuelta Femenina 2024: How to watch on TV and live streamingDario Belingheri/Getty ImagesThe Vuelta Femenina 2024 will be available to watch in the UK on Eurosport andDiscovery+for 6.99 per month with the basic package, which includes cycling and all other Eurosport programmes. Both races will also be shown live in the UK on the TV channels Eurosport 1 and 2.If its not being shown in your country, you may be able to watch coverage using a VPN Virtual Private Network which allows users to mask their IP address and watch geo-blocked content, provided they dont need to pay for a subscription. Rose Blend Mixes Road and Gravel Bikes into Single Super Affordable Alloy Platform
Is the Rose Blend one dropbar bike to rule them all? OK, Rose isnt really trying to eliminate separate road bikes and gravel bikes. But their new Blend looks to successfully have eliminated the tough choice for new dropbar cyclists of whether to buy a road bike or a gravel bike. Why pick, when you can have both!Rose Blend adaptable, affordable alloy road AND gravel bike(Photos/Rose)Rose calls their new Blend a hybrid platform that can be built up as road or gravel. Its not a huge stretch, as we see even top-tier modern road bikes with mega tire clearances these days. And gravel bikes with race-ready road-inspired geometry. So, just like with a lot of contemporary all-road bikes, theres really no need any more to commit to riding on just one type of surface. And thats especially important to someone new to cycling, or even to mountain bikers looking to branch out onto dropbars. Roses entry into sporty cycling just got easier and more affordable.Tech detailsSure this is an affordable entry-level, smooth-welded aluminum road or gravel bike. But you get almost all of the key modern dropbar bike features plus a comfortably-flared Ritchey Butano bar to top it off. This is a modern flat-mount disc brake bike with 12mm thru-axles, a tapered steerer carbon fork, 27.2mm post, a UDH, and fully internal cable routing through the headset. You can even mount a kickstand if you feel so inclined.Tire clearance is 40mm, letting it fall more into the light gravel or fast gravel categories. But slap some 32mm slicks on there, and its firmly in the modern road category, with plenty of all-road capability, plus full-coverage fender compatibility.A wide 7-size range (XXS-XXL) should offer a fit for everyone with seattube lengths from 42.5-60cm!Rose Blend Pricing, options & availability2024 Rose Blend RoodThe new Rose Blend bike comes in 2 discipline-specific build spec levels road or gravel and in 2 colors. Pick from matte Salmon orange or more conventional matte black in either style. Starting at 1199 for the road build you get a Tiagra 210 groupset with compact 50/34 x 11-34T gearing. Add 32mm Continental Ultra Sport road slicks on Roses own house brand alloy wheels with a 22mm internal width, for a claimed complete bike weight of 9.9kg. 2024 Rose Blend GravelFor 1399, the gravel build gets a GRX 400 210 build with lower 46/30 x 11-34T off-road gearing and 40mm Conti Terra Trail tires on those same G20 wheels. Just 100g more claimed than the road build. Both iterations of the new do-it-all dropbar Rose Blend are available now, direct from Rose and in their retail shops.RoseBikes.comThe post Rose Blend Mixes Road and Gravel Bikes into Single Super Affordable Alloy Platform appeared first on Bikerumor.
