A 19-year-old who came through the road ranks of Kelly-Benefits-Cycling was now the USAs next hope for an international cyclocross star. Beshir won Saturdays C1 after an early crash forced him to work his way back through the field. He eventually caught Andrew Strohmeyer, went clear, and finished 18 seconds ahead of Tyler Clark.Charm City also had some history for Beshir. It was one of the races that launched his cyclocross career, with Baltimore cycling fixture Marc Frazer helping introduce him to the sport.Hes the one that got me into the sport, Beshir said after the win. Beshir returned Sunday, won again in the mud, and secured the USCX overall title.Four days later, he was in the ICU in a coma. One of many social media posts supporting Tofik and his family (Photo/Instagram)The Cycling Community Is Rallying Around TofikHall shared an update on social media Saturday and asked people to respect the familys privacy and not visit the hospital. Yeah, it certainly did. In August this year, just across the state line in Tennessee, a driver struck the Milligan University cycling team during a training ride on Highway 19E. Two riders, Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers, were killed, and seven teammates were injured. The driver, John Benfield, was later charged with two counts of vehicular homicide by recklessness and five counts of aggravated assault by vehicle by recklessness. Magnus White and family (Photo/TheWhiteLine)Oddly enough, less than a month ago, we wrote about The White Line, the road-safety organization Magnus Whites family created. The reason for the refresher is that the woman charged with killing Magnus is now up for parole, only after a few years driving while drunk and on drugs. A small amount of time served for cutting someones life short.Magnus was 17 when he was struck and killed by Yeva Smilianska while training near Boulder, Colorado, in 2023. He was preparing to represent the United States at the Junior Mountain Bike World Championships. His family later created The White Line to push for safer roads and stronger protections for cyclists and pedestrians.Though the circumstances surrounding Beshirs collision have not been fully released, we do know a vehicle was involved and that another young racer was simply out training and is now facing a long, uncertain recovery.(Photo/GoFundMe)How to Help Tofik A GoFundMe has been created to help Beshir and his family cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, travel, lodging, and the many costs of an extended hospital stay.GoFundMe:https://www.gofundme.com/f/donate-for-tofik-beshirs-medical-careIf you can donate, please do.If you cant, sharing the fundraiser still helps.
