Silca Terra Floor Pump Gives Durable, Big Volume Precision
Ive been using the Silca Terra since shortly after its launch in 2022. As is expected from the brand, its held up over nearly four years of constant use and become one of my most-employed tools. The Terra is Silcas answer to big volume gravel and mountain bike tires. And as road bikes have normalized on 30-32mm tires, its quickly become the perfect one-pump solution for every bike in my garage. Its stand-out feature is a two-stage gauge combined with a 30mm diameter shaft. It moves enough air to quickly and easily inflate fat tires, and anything up to 30psi is shown in 0.5psi increments. Silca precision, now extended to low-pressure.Half of the gauges diameter is reserved for the first 30psi, so its easy to read from a standing position, too. The rest shows off 30-to-120psi in 1.0psi increments in the 40-60psi range (modern road tubeless), and increasing to just 2.0psi at the top end of its range.Worth noting, pumps are typically designed with about 2x the range that theyre expected to be used for, so if you actually need to hit 100-120psi, get one of their high-pressure road pumps instead. How fast and easy is it? Just 26 effortless pumps to hit 25psi on a 700x50mm Panaracer Gravel King.It works great even on massive 292.6 all-mountain tires, tooor just 2.4s like these. The hose is 37 (94cm) long. Not the longest on the market, but long enough to reach a wheel in a workstand.A pressure release button makes it easy to dial it in if you over-inflate.The Terra is Silcas first floor pump to come with a standard lever-actuated valve head, too. Compared to their proprietary chucks, this is honestly easier to use and also one of the best-feeling pump head levers Ive ever used. Its firm, but not difficult, and provides a confident closure on the valve stem. Its reversible, working with both Presta/Dunlop and Schrader by unscrewing and flipping the cap. A handy pressure release valve makes fine-tuning your inflation easy. The only signs of wear are scrapes on the bottom where it contacts the groundwhich is only at the three corners, oddly. And theres a bit of corrosion on the three bolts attaching the piping that goes from the cylinder to the gauge. The only downside is that this is their only floor pump that doesnt have the leather plunger seal inside. And its not user-serviceable, so if the rubber gasket or anything else starts wearing out, youll have to send it in for repair/replacement. It has a lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects, though, and a 7-year warranty on hard (non-wear) parts.MSRP is $159.00, which makes it Silcas most affordable floor pump, but thats still on the high side for a floor pump. Few floor pumps come with a real Ash wood handle and mostly metal construction, though, not to mention Silcas reputation. Its those things, combined with the unique dual-function gauge, that make this a standout pump.Silca.cc
