Well, its getting close to that time again. School is back in session, Summer is winding down, and the MADE show is back! This August 21, 22, and 23, the MADE Show, the worlds largest handmade bike show, sets up shop at the Zidell Yards in Portland, Oregon. The MADE Show celebrates the independent frame builder as well as the small cottage industry that supports them. Its a great show, and one of my favorites to attend. The show is for both industry professionals and consumers alike. Its usually a packed house with an amazing array of craftsmen and artisans, with framebuilders proudly displaying their beautiful creations. And the weather looks like it will be perfect this year!(Photos / MADE)If the show sounds like something that you would like to attend, MADE is offering a discount code especially for Bikerumor readers. And what was the start of your two-wheeled love affair?Billy Sinkford: The first time I delivered a package as a bike messenger. The rush of getting paid to ride my bike I have never looked back. I feel extremely fortunate to work bikes and throw MADE. Pinch Me!When did you fall in love with the indy framebuilding community? As a bike messenger in Boston, Independent Fabrication was a mainstay. Iglehart was a mainstay. The framebuilding community was connected with the messenger community. It was just organic. How did the concept of the MADE Show come about? The MADE Show is a celebration of framebuilding and the brands that support it. I have been fortunate enough to have been in the right place at the right time to start MADE after the pandemic. I actually almost bought NAHBS right before lockdown. Its for the builders, but there are many brands that support the show and framebuilding in general. MADE is not for every brand, but for the right brand its a perfect fit. Expect to see hundreds of beautiful bikes from around the globe, and many new product launches from builders and brands alike.Theres talk that this may be the last year for the show at the Zidell Yards. If so, whats next?Youre right! This will likely be our last year at the Yards. We have enjoyed four incredible years there. But our event has grown. We cant control the weather, but we can bring the event inside. We built something beautiful; lets give that some stability. More news on that soon; we are in talks with multiple venues in Portland. This is for sure our victory lap at Zidell. The show continues to grow in size every year. What kind of new things can we look forward to this year? The builders Lounge the fact that we are bringing builders from across the world to MADE.The thing we are the most excited about is Portland rallying around this show. Portland has supported MADE since its inception. We are honored and so excited to keep MADE here. With the success of MADE Australia, can we expect more shows in other countries?Id like to plead the fifth, hereI kid, but only kinda. We are open to anything. That said, there are great folks (bespoked) who are celebrating framebuilding outside of the US.We werent going to ask, but I feel like our readers will want to know why Souphorse? Its my old messenger nickname sometimes when you work bikes you go all in.Zach, our Editor-in-Chief, and I will be attending the magic that is the MADE Show. We are excited to get all the coverage to you here, so keep an eye out. Made.Bike
