Etnnic Launches New Folding eTrike 3.0 that Actually Folds Pretty Small
Listen, I dont know whats happening in bike news lately, but this is the second trike story Im writing in the last 3-4 days. Not everyone can, or wants to, balance on two wheels, so it seems that more companies are applying some R&D to pedalable machines with three or more wheels. Etnnic is a Spanish mobility company that takes what they do very seriously, judging by the photo below. And, they very seriously just released a new folding trike. Its called the Folding Trike 3.0.See? Look how serious they are. (Photos / Ettnic)The companys tag line is Electric Tricycles for Adults pretty straightforward.Anywho, it looks like the Folding Trike 3.0 actually folds, unlike theMooncool trikethat we mentioned a few days ago. Also, the Folding Trike 3.0 only weighs 29.5kg with motor and battery (65 lbs), which is not only light for its class, but a whopping 30+lbs lighter than the Mooncool eTrike. But the Folding Trike 3.0 is also five times more expensive, so theres that to consider. Also, the Folding Trike 3.0 has a weight limit of 264lbs quite a bit lower than the 400lb limit of the Mooncool. So if youre looking for something to support a lot of weight, this may not be it. Well, lets see what just shy of $7,000 gets you when buying a tricycle. Wow, thats a really silly sentence. Read it again. To be completely fair, there are plenty of ebikes with two wheels priced at $7k and above, and this looks like it has some serious engineering behind it to make it fold as compactly as it does. Etnnic Folding Trike 3.0Retail: $6,959Lets start by recognizing that adult tricycles are a legitimate segment of cycling, and in no way do I mean to downplay anybodys mobility concerns/needs.As mentioned earlier, Etnnic is a Spanish micromobility manufacturer that has launched this new trike. Its an electric tricycle designed specifically for adults who need transportation that is portable and easy to store and transport. The new Folding Trike 3.0 is actually pretty light for what it is, but still rather heavy for some, Im sure. But, that being said, having the trike fold does remove the typical bulk thats associated with non-folding trikes. So, storage and portability will be easier.Being a trike, it will naturally feel more stable when riding for some. The Trike 3.0 features a two-front-wheel configuration. This provides better control and stability when compared to standard double-rear wheel designs.Whats the Standout Feature? It folds. The standout feature is the quick-folding system. When folded, it reduces the tricycles size to 103 x 93 x 45 cm. This makes it practical for urban commuters who may need to store their vehicle in small spaces or take it on public transport. When folded, the Trike 3.0 reduces that typically bulky piece of equipment into something more manageable for everyday use. That can be a big issue for some; not being able to store your transportation can be a deal breaker. If you need to move the trike after its been folded, its no problem. The Trike 3.0 features integrated wheels that let users roll it like luggage. This trolley-style way to move the folded trike could eliminate the need to carry the 29.5 kg weight. The design appears particularly suited for RV users and folks who live in urban areas. Like users who need occasional electric assistance for running errands but lack permanent/plentyful storage space.Technical FeaturesWeight: 29.5 kgFrame: 6000 Series Aluminum REDESIGNED FRAMEMotor: Bafang M510 E-Central 250W Power StationBattery: ETNNIC E02 14Ah 48VStem: ETNNIC folding aluminumHandlebar: Aluminum double-height mountain bikeRims: Double-walled black aluminumTires: SCHWALBE Big Apple 202.15Tubes: SCHWALBE AV7Seatpost: Aluminum 31.6 x 360 mmSaddle: SELLE SAN MARCO BioactiveShifter: Shimano Nexus 8-speed twist shifterFront Brakes: BENGAL hydraulic 2140 mmRear Brake: SHIMANO NEXUS roller brakeRear Hub: Shimano Nexus 8-speed internal gear hubMudguards: SKS GermanyChain guard: Included Pedals: Aluminum foldingThrottle: Optional triggerRange: Up to 110 kmRear rack: Aluminum, integratedLights: Integrated, front and rearSecurity lock: TPUTransport wheels: IntegratedOptional: Front saddlebag, front fender, throttlePortability & Stability The Folding Trike 3.0 is manufactured entirely in Spain. It enters the European market as a solution for those seeking electric mobility that doesnt require a permanent parking spot or garage space. The focus of the Folding Trike 3.0 is on portability. But also, maintaining the stability benefits of a three-wheel design addresses a specific gap in personal transportation options.Oh, and before you go, you guys need to check out the full suspension trike here, and tell me you dont want to push that thing to its limits.
