Commiting to the Growth of BMX, Huffy Drops Primus, Its Second Pro-Level BMX Frame
How about a lil BMX news today? Yesterday, Dayton, Ohios Huffy dropped a new elite-level BMX race frame in the new Primus. This is Huffys second competitive-level frame since the brand returned to the sport.(Photos / Huffy)The frame was developed after 18 months, incorporating direct feedback from Huffys factory team racers. They tested three different prototypes in national competitions before racing on the final production version at the 2026 Legacy Nationals in May.Grey colorwayWhos Primus For?The Primus targets riders who are serious about racing and are competing at national and Olympic levels. This is a little different from last years pro-level Sledgehammer frame, which focused on freestyle riding. The frame has already proven itself in competition, with factory team riders earning notable results. These include two-time Olympian Nic Longs win at the USA BMX Grand Nationals, Carly Kanes silver medal at the USAC National Championships, and Ethan Popovichs first Elite Men podium finish during his rookie season.Pretty impressive. The Primus FrameRed colorwayThe Primus frame is built using 6061 T-6 aluminum. It incorporates some unique tech features. For instance, the frame uses a patent-pending captive external cable routing system. It provides the clean appearance of internal routing while making maintenance more accessible. Other features include cool, toolless integrated chain tensioners, a tapered headtube (1-1/8 to 1.5), and a T47 bottom bracket that maximizes frame stiffness while ensuring compatibility with future crank options. These design choices reflect input from professional racers who know the importance of equipment that performs consistently under competitive pressure while also being easily serviceable between races.Primus Retail & DetailRetail: $699 Material: 6061 T-6 Aluminum frameColorways: Gloss Red or Matte CharcoalSizes: Pro (20.5), Pro XL (21.25), and Pro XXL (22)Cable Routing: Huffys (patent pending) captive external system Axle: 15mm rear axle plates included (3/8 and 20mm available aftermarket)Braking: Hydraulic Post Mount 140mm Disc onlyTensioners: Captive toolless integrated chain tensionersHeadtube: Tapered 1-1/8 1.5 (IS42/IS52)More About the Huffy Pro BMX TeamNic LongCarly KaneEthan PopovichComposed of eight uniquely talented riders across both Race and Freestyle categories, the Huffy BMX team is united by a shared desire to see the sport of BMX grow and nurture the next generation.
