CYPLORE E-Bike Conversion Kit for Performance Road and Gravel Bikes Launches on Kickstarter
Today, CYPLORE is launching a Kickstarter campaign for its e-bike conversion system. The brand claims that it will be the worlds lightest electric conversion system, made to integrate with thru-axle road and gravel bike frames. The idea is to simply add a pedal-assist system to the bike that riders already own, know, and love. The CYPLORE system consists of a compact rear hub motor, paired with an aerodynamic, bottle-style battery. Based on the photos, it appears to go virtually unnoticed, to amplify your pedaling efforts without ruining the aesthetics of your bike. According to the brand, it will be offered in two configurations: as a complete wheel (CYPLORE ONE) or as a hub-only (CYPLORE FLEX) to build your own wheel.CYPLORE DetailsThe CYPLORE e-bike conversion system can be purchased as a complete wheel or a hub-only to build your own.CYPLORE states that its electric bike conversion system is the lightest in the world, with a complete system weight of 1.7 kg (3.75 lbs.) for the hub motor, battery, sensor, and controls, also known as CYPLORE FLEX. For the complete pre-built wheel setup, aka CYPLORE ONE, they claim a weight of 2.5 kg. For a quick comparison, the Mahle XS system with the X20 hub motor, sensor, controls, and external, bottle-style battery has a claimed weight of 2.5 kg.Hub MotorThe hub motor looks quite discreet. The heart of the CYPLORE system is the compact rear hub motor. This light-assist motor reportedly puts out up to 250 watts of peak power and up to 23 Nm of torque. It uses a torque sensor to measure pedaling effort with the goal of delivering assistance smoothly and proportionally, along with an internal clutch to disengage the motor when coasting to preserve a natural, resistance-free ride.CYPLORE has designed its hub motor with four assistance modes. There are: Smooth, Agile, Auto, and Training. These are controlled by the systems magnetic remote control. This remote magnetically docks to the battery for charging and control, and can be mounted on the handlebar to control the system while riding.Smooth: provides gradual assist, perfect for flat terrains and endurance rides.Agile: delivers sharp, responsive boosts for quick climbs or accelerationsAuto: Adapts to terrain and effort, delivering boost when roads rise or headwinds hitTraining: Target heart rate zones for structured workouts or recovery sessionsFitmentThe CYPLORE hub fits bikes with 12 x 142mm dropouts. The hub is designed for bikes with 12 x 142mm thru-axles, which covers the majority of performance-oriented road and gravel bikes. CYPLORE lists all of the standard freehub options, Shimano HG, SRAM XD & XDR, and SRAM Road Splined as being supported. Again, they will be offering the system in the FLEX configuration as a hub-only, so riders can choose their preferred rim, or in the ONE configuration with a complete rear wheel, which is referred to as a prebuilt carbon wheel.Rear dropout spacing: 142 12mm thru-axleBike type: Road or gravel bikeFreehub: Shimano HG / SRAM XD&XDR / SRAM Road SplinedBrakes: CYPLORE ONE: Disc onlyCYPLORE FLEX: Disc or RimBatteryThe battery mounts to your bottle bosses. The CYPLORE system uses a bottle-style battery designed with aerodynamics in mind. It comes with its own cage/carrier and mounts to your frames bottle bosses. According to CYPLORE, it has 111Wh of capacity and is capable of providing up to 50km of range. It uses a USB-C charging connection with a claimed charging time of just one hour. The magnetic remote appears to nest in the top of the battery for charging or control, and can be removed and placed on the handlebar while riding. The system comes with a mount to attach the remote to the handlebar. With a narrowed profile and smoothed edges, CYPLOREs battery has been designed with aerodynamics in mind.CYPLORE AppCYPLORE also tells us that it connects to cycling computers via ANT+. Those interested can also use the CYPLORE app, where riders can sync ride data and upload to Strava, and access real-time ride and battery information on a ride.InstallationAccording to CYPLORE, installing the ONE conversion system (with the complete rear wheel) only takes a few minutes. The steps required appear to be installing a cassette, installing a tire, and then installing the wheel in place of the standard wheel. Riders will also need to install the battery mount and attach/route the power cable. If you opt for the FLEX version, youll need to get the complete wheel built before installation, but otherwise the steps will be the same.
