- BIKERUMOR.COMRapha Blaerosuit is a Gravel Aero Skinsuit with a Bladder. Get it?Taking the Unbound 200 win on Lachlan Morton, the upcoming Rapha Blaerosuit is a modified version of their World Tour Summer Roadsuit that builds in a 2L hydration reservoir.Designed for gravel racing, where the rules are (for now, anyway) more slack than road, the suit provides extra hydration so you can skip the time-sucking bottle refills at rest stops. Its also possibly more aero, with the shape helping streamline airflow over the riders back, but the main benefit is time saved at aid stations.Project Blaero started at the request of Keegan Swenson, who wanted something more breathable and lighter weight than a hydration vest or pack, but without giving up fuel storage. The front of the jersey is a lightweight, highly breathable mesh.In addition to the 2L of fluid and standard three pockets, there are two gel pockets on the back of the sleeves for an extra 200+ calories with zero aero penalty. They also wanted to eliminate the chafing and bouncing of an external vest. Internal supports keep the hydration reservoir centered and compressed, so it wont slide around and bounce.FWIW, Camelbaks Racebak baselayer offered something similar 12 years ago, but this design allows for quick swaps without having to remove your jersey. Rapha says this ones easy enough to swap that the rider can do it themselves while wearing the suit. The hose can be routed to either side, with small loops to keep the bite valve close by and prevent it from dangling about. The kit was raced at Unbound by Swenson, Morton, and Alexis Skarda, Jordan Schleck, Sarah Strum, and Ellen Campbell. The design allows for full sublimation, so teams can have all their logos visible, too, unlike with a vest or pack. Its a prototype for now, but will be available for purchase soon, just like that other one we found.Rapha.ccThe post Rapha Blaerosuit is a Gravel Aero Skinsuit with a Bladder. - INRNG.COMCritrium du Dauphin Stage 4 PreviewA time trial stage and at 34km, a long one these days.Gee Whizzes: a long day concluded with a lively uphill sprint. IPTs Krists Neilands launched in the final kilometre and got a gap forcing others to chase. When he was brought back his team mate Derek Gee countered and was clear but had Roman Grgoire closing in. The 21 year old French man came past Gee but visibly at great cost, he seemed to be buckling with the effort and needed the finish line to come right away only Gee suddenly had a wheel to sit on and popped him for the win. Lukas Nerurkar was the best of the rest in third place, even younger than Grgoire at 20.The Route: 34.4km, long these days for a time trial, more than the Tour de France (just), more than the Vuelta and only the Giro had longer. Its stage in two halves, the first part is on big straight roads and then once the course crosses the Loire river it goes onto smaller roads that twist, turn and climb to the finish although this second half is harder but its no maze. The Contenders: world champ Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quickstep) finds a course to suit but is the form there? Hes cut a discreet figure so far in the opening stages.Josh Tarling (Ineos) is the time trial specialist out to usurp his own team mate Ganna as the invincible figure of time trials but hasnt raced since being disqualified from Paris-Roubaix.Juan Ayuso (UAE) looks like a climber but of his seven pro wins, three have come from World Tour level time trials.Primo Rogli (Bora-hansgrohe) looked sharp on the second stage, but its a lot to extrapolate this to a 34km TT.TarlingEvenepoel, Rogli, AyusoSobrero, Vlasov, ArmirailWeather: sunshine and 24C.TV: the final 90 minutes are on TV and last rider is in before 5.00pm.Postcard from Saint-German-LavalTodays start and finish towns are not famous at all, one theme of this years Dauphin is how it is visiting small towns and villages. The finish town of Neulise population 1,347 made the headlines last July when a hailstorm ravaged the place, these things happen but some hailstones were 10cm in diameter. You wouldnt want to be out cycling that day.Whats notable today is how close todays stage is to other recent time trial stages of the Dauphin. Last years TT won by Mikkel Bjerg was a just few kilometres over to the north-east; the 2022 battle between Filippo Ganna and Wout van Aert was a few kilometres to the south in La Btie dUrf, 2021s TT was a bit further south but still close to the Loire river like today, and the 2019 edition won by Van Aert but probably more notable for Chris Froomes ruinous recon crash was just a few kilometres away to the north-west. So somehow this is time trial central for the Critrium du Dauphin. The race often needs a time trial stage in order to give balance to the Alpine finish and enhance the weeks feel of a Tour de France redux. Yet today only a small share of the peloton will be racing for the win or even racing for a time, for many even most its an active recovery ride. Its not exceptional given a sprint stage can see most of the field just aiming to complete the course and sometimes for minimal effort all day too; but its actively encouraged today by the 25% time cut; in the Giro this was 30% for the time trial stages, more than any other type of day. As crushing as Pogaars ride in Perugia was, the last rider was only ten minutes down, safely inside the roughly fifteen minute margin. So while today is billed as the race of truth, for many its truthfully not a race at all. They can save energy today in order to attack in the coming days. The post Critrium du Dauphin Stage 4 Preview first appeared on The Inner Ring.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 183 Views
- BIKERUMOR.COMDeFeet Evo Jet are now the Fastest Aero Cycling SocksThe new DeFeet Evo Jet socks claim to save a massive 24 watts of drag compared to bare, shaved legs. Thats a massive gain, and a big improvement over their already good Evo Disruptor and competing aero cycling socks on the market.DeFeet says their journey into aero socks started in the A2 wind tunnel in 2017 with QuickStep. The result was the Evo Disruptor, a sock made with traditional circular knit manufacturing (how most cycling socks are made) and set an 8-watt savings benchmark. Quicksteps Julian Alaphilipe wore them to stage wins at that years Tour de France.Soon other teams wanted them, too, but in 2022, Victor Campenaerts asked for a faster sock. By this, other brands had developed aero cycling socks with faster claims, but DeFeets founder Shane Cooper says their testing methods were static, and they were a lot expensive. So, they went back to the wind tunnel in 2023 to test a mix of knits and regular fabrics. Once they found the fastest fabrics, it was back to the cutting boards, then back to the wind tunnel. We tested two moving athletes and used several yaw and speed settings, says Cooper. As you know, a foot is not only traveling forward but also in a circle, so (they create a lot of vortices). Very much like a wheel, but wheels have lots of room to clean the air. With a sock, cleaning up the wake is an area that can create major watt savings.Unlike their Air-e-ator and Evo Disruptor, the Evo Jet combines a knit foot with ribbed woven fabric cuff thats stitched together in the back. For teams, this upper cuff can be sublimated. For you and me, its available in black or white. The end result is what they claim is the worlds most aero sock, saving 24 watts compared to a bare, shaven leg. Cooper says theyve received third-party test results that support their claims, too.Look for them on several riders in this years Tour de France, and grab your own pair for $55. Available in short (6.75 cuff) and tall (8 cuff) heights.DeFeet.comThe post DeFeet Evo Jet are now the Fastest Aero Cycling Socks appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 211 Views
