- BIKERUMOR.COMWTB Goes Wider, Faster, and Deeper with New CGR i28 Carbon Gravel WheelsToday, Wilderness Trail Bikes (WTB) is announcing an all-new wheelset designed for modern gravel riding. With the CGR i28, WTB has paired their World Cup-proven Frequency 7X hubs with 40mm-deep, 28mm-wide carbon rims to create a balanced wheelset that delivers speed, comfort, and durability in equal measure. Designed to complement and pair with todays wider gravel tires, including WTBs own, of course, these new wheels promise to deliver top-level performance everywhere your gravel rides take you.WTB CGR i28 Gravel WheelsThe new CGR i28 slides in alongside WTBs existing CZR i23 as another high-end gravel wheelset in the brands lineup. With these new wheels, however, WTB has taken a wider and deeper approach to their design, aligning them better with current trends in the gravel market.40mm DepthThe CGR wheels feature 40mm deep carbon rims, a moderate depth that should provide some aerodynamic advantage while remaining versatile enough for everyday use or in windy conditions. The rims have 24 holes, are designed with an asymmetric profile, and feature 4D spoke drilling to balance spoke tension and optimize load distribution. The spoke beds are also reinforced for durability. The hookless carbon rims feature WTBs Tubeless Compatible System (TCS) designed to ETRTO and ISO standards. The middle of the rim bed includes what WTB refers to as the On Ramp, a sloped rim valley that allows the bead of the tire to easily and smoothly move into place during installation and inflation. Theyve also included what they call Solid Strip, a layer between the rim and tubeless tape that prevents the tape from sagging at spoke holes and protects the tape from being punctured in the event of a broken spoke.28mm WidthGravel tires have been trending wider for a few years, and the CGR i28 has been designed to pair well with modern tire widths. The i28 in the name refers to the internal rim width of 28mm, which WTB believes provides the ideal platform for 45-54mm gravel tires. While some gravel wheels are trending even wider, WTB says that wider rims can square off the tire tread, resulting in compromised performance. Instead, the 28mm rim width balances tire stability and the desired profile for traction, suppleness, and rolling efficiency.WTB also makes gravel tires, including the recently released WTB/Stromm aero-optimized Byway RS 50, Course 52, and Macro 54 models. These tires were designed with tread and sidewall profiles optimized around a 28mm internal rim width presumably the CGR i28 and were told they are an ideal pairing for these wheels. Of course, these wheels should also work just fine with tires from any other brand, especially those within that 45 to 54mm recommended width range.Frequency 7X HubsAt the center of the CGR i28 wheels are WTBs new Frequency 7X hubs. These hubs have been tested and proven at the highest levels of racing by the Cannondale Factory Racing team. They feature a patent-pending hub/ratchet interface that WTB claims sets a new standard in performance and reliability. While they look like standard straight-pull hubs, inside are ratchets with a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating claimed to increase hardness and significantly reduce friction compared to hard-chrome plating. Additionally, the inner ratchet ring has a splined interface, which WTB says allows the hubs to withstand over twice the torque of traditional designs without requiring specialist tools for servicing. Interestingly, WTB did not provide the ratchet tooth count in its press materials, but, by our count, they appear to have 36 teeth. On top of that, WTB says it uses larger than industry-typical Enduro bearings throughout, including in the freehubs. WTB claims this results in a stiffer axle assembly and a load rating increase of up to 38% compared to the competition. Additionally, the hubs are fully sealed to keep moisture, dust, and debris out to keep them spinning smoothly and freely.Options and WeightsThe CGR i28 wheels come in 700c only with standard road/gravel axle spacing 12x100mm front and 12x142mm rear. The hubs have a centerlock brake rotor interface and can be purchased with SRAM XDR, Shimano Microspline, and Shimano HG freehub bodies. Claimed weights are:Front: 635 gRear XDR: 729 gRear Microspline: 729 gRear HG: 740 gThose numbers put complete wheelsets starting at 1,364 g, which is quite respectable for the 40mm rim depth.Ride With ConfidenceWTB backs its new CGR i28 carbon rims with its Ride With Confidence Guarantee. This means that if youre the original owner and you break your rim while riding, WTB will replace it for free.Pricing and AvailabilityWTBs new CGR i28 wheels are sold separately or in complete wheelsets, with retail prices of:USD: Front $850 / Rear $950 / Wheelset $1,800EUR: Front 727.45 / Rear 822.45 / Wheelset 1,549.90GBP: Front 563 / Rear 636 / Wheelset 1,199The brand-new CGR i28 wheels are available now through authorized WTB dealers or directly from the brand. - WWW.CYCLINGWEEKLY.COMQuinn Simmons' Strava power data shows just what it takes to be one of the best in a brutal World Championships road raceThere's something about the World Championships that is almost unique in bike racing, with the possible exception of Paris-Roubaix; and never was this more in evidence than in the Worlds races at Montral at the weekend. While the Grand Tours and some of the Classics can feel almost orchestrated, especially when one team or rider is clearly strongest (naming no names), the Worlds is a visceral, two-wheeled boxing match. With huge numbers of fatigue-inducing kilometres already in the legs, and isolated from any outside help, we saw riders bludgeon each other repeatedly around the Mount Royal circuit, with varying levels of tiredness, desperation and determination all laid bare for the world to see.(Image credit: Strava)If you watched those displays of no-holds-barred brutality in Montral and wondered exactly what it took to be there at the sharp end of a race like that, fourth-place finisher Quinn Simmons has at least part of the answer for you.Like his US teammates Matteo Jorgenson and new champion Brandon McNulty, Simmons posted his ride on Strava. All three files showed the outlandish 276km (171-mile) distance, the long hours in the saddle, and the vicious, serrated profile of Mount Royal's multiple laps. But Quinn Simmons who posts under the pseudonym Ricky Bobby (a fictional NASCAR driver) reveals one parameter that is rare to see from a pro cyclist, and which gives a deeper insight into what it takes to be up there among the best: power. The pop culture references don't stop with Simmons's Strava name he called his Worlds ride 'Someone PLAY FREEBIRD', and quotes the film 'Miracle on Ice' in the description, writing: "You play 'em 10, you might lose 9. Not today."On to that all important power. For a moving time of 6hr 24min 56sec, Simmons averaged 291 watts which, when taking into account the myriad climbs and changes of pace, translated to a monster normalised power of 361 watts. Other stats include an average heart rate of 150bpm, with a 190bpm maximum achieved as he crested the Voie Camillien Houde for the eighth time, during his stint out front with Mathieu van der Poel and Primo Rogli. He also registered numerous Strava Achievements, including KoM on the Pont de 35 UP segment a motorway bridge early on in course, of all places.Speaking after the race, Simmons told NOS: "In cycling so many times you make a plan and it doesn't go well. We lose so many races every year. In the meeting last night I mean we're all on different teams, and we said, 'no matter what, an American needs to finish on the podium'. And I said 'Hey boys, anything's possible. We race for the podium but more could happen if we ride like this. And we did exactly that."Addressing his fourth place, just outside the medals, he said: "Whatever who cares about missing a medal when the team takes the jersey."0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 127 Visualizações

- IRISHCYCLE.COMGalway councillor promises no more projects to make walking and cycling saferIm happy with my position councillor says when challenged by a local advocate.A Galway councillor, Cllr Shane Forde (Fine Gael), has vowed to block any future project to make roads safer for pedestrians and cyclists while hes still on the council. This morning he posted a photo of the September traffic on Castlepark Road on Facebook, and said: This is the direct result of multiple traffic lights on the new scheme and the taking away of the slip lane at ATU. Absolute disaster. In the comments section, David Corley, a Galway-based active travel and accessibility advocate, said: Much safer for pedestrians and cyclists now I look forward to seeing more of this safe infrastructure being rolled out across the city.Cllr Shane Forde said: You wont see anymore of it in Galway City East during my time on the council.Another member of the public said: Will there be a push back on the Monivea road? in reference to the Monivea Road (East) Active Travel Scheme, which is currently at its public consultation review stage. Cllr Forde said: Yes, and Ill be leading the charge.Other views on the page range from ripping the active travel project out to adjusting the traffic light sequence. In further comment, Corley said: Imagine a politician blocking safe travel infrastructure for children. What a bizarre stance to take, especially in light of the escalation in road deaths and serious injuriesCllr Forde replied: Im happy with my position. I think you believe you are the only parent in the world who worries about kids and safe infrastructure. I offered to canvas 100 houses with you and you can pick the homes around Ballybane, Ballybrit and Castlepark and see if anyone agrees with your perspective. He added: Im for active travel that includes Bus priority lanes and if it does not include this then our community doesnt want it.The idea that bus lanes have to be included in all active travel projects has been recurring in the area. In the consultation pages for the Monivea Road (East) Active Travel Scheme, Galway City Council has a Q&A including Why is no bus lane included? The councils response is: This project will also deliver upgraded facilities at all existing bus stops along the route. It will not include any bus lane, as this would require the compulsory purchase of properties including lands owned by local businesses and peoples front gardens. The Monivea Roadproject is planned to run the length of the road and links the new cycle paths on the Ballybane Road and Castlepark Road with the underpass to Parkmore Road.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 107 Visualizações

- IRISHCYCLE.COMCllr welcomes opening of greenway underpass in Westport; users will be able to bypass busy N5 road from later this weekAn underpass that will form part of the Great Western Greenway and allow greenway users to avoid crossing Westports N5 northern bypass at grade is due to open later this week.Cllr Peter Flynn (Fine Gael) said: Five years of lobbying and finally, its happening! The underpass connecting the greenway routes out of town to Atterish, and the main greenway to and from Newport will open in the coming week. The at-grade road crossing (pictured below) has been in place since the N5 Northern Relief Road opened as part of the wider N5 Westport to Turlough Road Project. The underpass was built as part of the project, but the northern connection to the underpass was not finished at the time. This might look like a relatively small piece of infrastructure, but for West Mayo it is a really important improvement, he said.Cllr Flynn said: For the past three years, cyclists and pedestrians have had to negotiate the N59 and Northern Relief Road. Frankly, it is a small miracle that we havent seen a serious accident on this section, particularly given the number of visitors using the greenway who were unfamiliar with the road layout.Thankfully, that is now history. People will have a safe route in and out of town exactly what greenway infrastructure should be about, he said.Cllr Flynn thanked Mayo County Council staff who worked and landowners who facilitated the works. And while we hear some politicians talking about greenways as if they are yesterdays infrastructure, I believe the opposite is true. We should be investing more in them, not less. Happily, we will see similar happening in Newport next year which again will be a massive addition to both locals and visitors, he said.Cllr Flynn added: A greenway is not just a tourist attraction. It is infrastructure for everyday life giving children a safer route to school, people a healthier way to get to work, families a safe way to get to the shops, and young and old a way to get to sporting and community facilities. It reduces car dependency, improves health and saves people money. That is why projects like this matter.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 125 Visualizações
