Longer races such as the mens elite and womens elite start with a long loop out from the Brossard district of Montreal.Thats followed by crossing the Samuel de Champlain bridge to a circuit through central Montreal, completed 12 times for the elite men and eight times for the elite women. Shorter races such as the mens U23 road race take place solely on multiple laps of the shorter Mont Real circuit.Time trial The time trial routes follow a twisting circuit through central Montreal, with shorter races omitting the further parts of the complete circuit. All finish at the same line in the Parc Jeanne-Mance also used for the road races.Riders to watch Remco Evenepoel looks likely to take a fourth elite men's time trial title. Anne-Christine Poujoulat/AFP via Getty Images) Theres no shortage of talent, despite the absence of the 2024 and 2025 road race winner, Tadej Pogaar.Look out for Remco Evenepoel in the mens individual time trial. He's worn the rainbow jersey in the discipline since 2023 and doesn't look inclined to relinquish it, based on current form. Hes a prospect for the mens road race too, even if he was bested by Isaac del Toro in the recent GP de Montreal, whos another hot prospect. The Mexican, unlike the Belgian, doesnt have a strong team behind him in the road race. Wout van Aert is another option for the Belgians. He looks to be in peak form following his two stages and points classification wins in the Vuelta a Espaa. Demi Vollering is a strong time trialist as well as the dominant women's road rider. Jeff Pachoud / Getty Images In the womens road race, its hard to look past Demi Vollering to win her first rainbow jersey, having so far this year won both the Tour de France Femmes and Giro dItalia Women, as well as a cluster of one day races including the Womens Tour of Flanders and Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Again, she has strong team backing in the road race from her Netherlands team. Dont rule out a win in the womens elite time trial too.For UK-based race watchers, the focus will be on Zoe Bckstedt both in the elite womens time trial, where shes a strong competitor, and the road race. Tom Pidcock will lead the charge for Team GBs elite men and is supported by a strong GB team. He has mixed road and XC MTB racing in 2026 and is the current XC Olympic MTB world champion.

UCI bans former head of performance at British Continental team for 10 years over Code of Ethics breaches
The former head of performance at British UCI Womens Continental Team Hess Cycling, Ladislav Demko, has been banned for 10 years by cycling's governing body over breaches of its Code of Ethics. In a press release on Friday afternoon, it was revealed that the UCI's Ethics Commission concluded that Demko's behaviour had "fallen short of the standards of integrity, care and diligence required of persons bound by the UCI Code of Ethics, and had involved an abuse of the position he held within the team". He committed breaches of Articles 5 (General principles) and 6.4 (Protection of physical and mental integrity) of the UCI Code of Ethics, together with Article 2.1 (Psychological abuse) of Appendix 1. Article 2.6 (Minors and other dependent persons) of Appendix 1 was retained as an aggravating circumstance. He was cited in particular for "the habitual use of aggressive and disrespectful language in the working environment, the unsafe and intimidating driving of team vehicles, and demeaning remarks concerning the physical appearance of staff and riders".Hess Cycling existed between 2023 and 2025, and aimed to become "Britain's leading professional women's team" with the aim of competing in the Tour de France Femmes, but collapsed last season. The proceedings came after several complaints were submitted by former staff members, and by a rider formerly coached by Demko "with whom he had a consensual personal relationship and with whom he cohabited, concerning allegations of harassment and psychological abuse".The investigation collected evidence, heard complaints, and was "assisted by an independent external trauma-informed investigator engaged at its request", as well as hearing comments from Demko. The press release reads: "Based on the elements brought to its attention, the Commission concluded that Mr Demkos conduct towards the riders and staff of the team in particular the habitual use of aggressive and disrespectful language in the working environment, the unsafe and intimidating driving of team vehicles, and demeaning remarks concerning the physical appearance of staff and riders had fallen short of the standards of integrity, care and diligence required of persons bound by the UCI Code of Ethics, and had involved an abuse of the position he held within the team."The Commission further concluded that Mr Demkos conduct towards the athlete he coached had involved acts of isolation including requests to sever contact with persons she trusted, the dictation of the content of her messages to them, and a threatening message addressed to her psychologist , humiliation by way of public denigration on social media, intimidation including threats to disclose personal information and a threat directed against a person she trusted , and infantilisation. "These acts, which persisted after the end of their relationship, had the effect of diminishing her sense of identity, dignity and self-worth. The fact that the above conduct arose within a consensual personal relationship between two adults did not remove it from the scope of the UCI Code of Ethics, given the coaching and dependent relationship between Mr Demko and the rider.""The Commission imposed a ban on Mr Demko from taking part in any cycling-related activity organised by the UCI or any of its affiliates for a period of 10 years, as well as a fine," the UCI added. "Mr Demko was further ordered to bear the costs of the proceedings."The UCI acknowledges the courage of the individuals who came forward in this matter, and recalls that any form of harassment or abuse is incompatible with the values of cycling."The UCI accepted the decision of the Ethics Commission, which could still face an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Motorist using camera gets angry with cyclist not in brand-new cycle lane, but it isnt even painted, and ongoing roadworks are obvious
For every 1 invested in active travel , it generates almost 4 in benefits to society. Cyclists in Ireland do not have to use cycle paths.A video of an Irish motorist recording a person cycling beside a new cycle path which is not finished has gone viral with over 366,000 views on Facebook alone. The video was originally posted a week ago by an account called laura.DrIfTjUnKiE on TikTok before a commercial website and social media outlet called Donegal Page shared it, with the audio changed. It was recorded on the approach to Sweeneys Top Oil on the N56 in LetterkennyThe video shows traffic cones in the middle of the road, but within seconds of the start of the clip, the road opens up, and there is space for the motorist to overtake. This type of anti-cycling clickbait video is now nearly a cottage industry around it on social media. But in Letterkenny, locals and councillors are also complaining about construction disruption from active travel projects, as well as a whole host of other issues with parking and traffic in Donegals largest town. The video appears to show a handheld device being used to record from the drivers side of a blue Subaru, a type of car which regularly appears on laura.DrIfTjUnKiEs videos. In the original audio, a womans voice said: Brand-new cycle lane, not used brilliant fucking way to use money. The video has Only in Letterkenny in overlaid text, and the caption text with the video said: Only in Letterkenny would they spend millions building new cycle lanes for people who dont use them. Great way of spending tax payers money donegal county council ffs #letterkenny #traffic #wasteofmoneyThe short video does not show the entry or end point of the cycle path in question, or whether it was accessible when the video was taken, but at a point in the video there appears to be traffic cones in the cycle path ahead, and the video shows that the markings on the cycle path have yet to be painted, indicating the cycle path was not finished at the time. The Donegal Page version of the video has the text Millions spent on new bicycle lanes across Letterkenny Money Well Spent? Maybe some more money to be spent on training cyclists to USE them? But, as well as the project still being a work in progress, there is no requirement for cyclists to use cycle lanes or tracks. This is for various reasons, including cycle paths being of poor quality, often being blocked, and cycle tracks often not accommodating turns and different directions of travel. In this case, it looks like the cycle path does not accommodate all right turns directly. Research carried out for the National Transport Authority and published recently shows that for every 1 invested in Active Travel infrastructure, it generates almost 4 in benefits to society. Even with finished cycle paths, the odd cyclist not using them is unlikely to change this assessment.

    Feeling The Squeeze
As a former semi-professional bike blogger and current gentleman wordsmith, I understand that people turn to this particular bullshit depository for a host of reasons, and very near the bottom of that list is in-depth product reviews, though I will continue to update you on how Im getting along with The Worlds Most Niche-iest* Shifter whether you like it or not:*[Thats Niche-iest as in extremely niche, not Of or relating to the philosophies of Friedrich Nietzschethough I suppose it could also be The Worlds Most Nietzsche-iest Shifter, I know nothing about him.]So far in indexed mode with the LoNo OM-1 rear derailleur the performance has been exemplary, having been battle-tested on the notorious proving ground that is the post-gentrification New York City streetscape by a hardened urban cycling veteran, and since the initial setup, which was quite easy, I have not had to so much as touch a barrel adjuster:By the way, LoNo OM-1 sounds ironically high-tech given that all this stuff is supposed to be about a return to simplicity, but this is cycling, and unless you make components sound highly technological and borderline incomprehensible then nobody will want to use them. Friction shifting? No thanks. LoNo detent-free multi-ratio transmission? Yes, please! But yes, the point of the OM-1 shifters is that it works perfectly with the OM-1 derailleur in indexed mode, whereas a Shimano indexed shifter is a YMMV-type thing. As I mentioned previously, while I did get Shimano shifters to work very well with an OM-1 derailleur on the Farbman, it did take a fair amount of fine-tuning at first. I wondered if maybe that was just because I was using older drivetrain components, but a couple days ago I gave the Farbster a brand new chain:The installation of a smooth and grime-free chain required me to fine-tune the cable tension once again, and once again it did take a fair amount of trial and error to get things just right; basically, its a little tricky to get the cable tension so that its not too low on the low gears/large cogs (in which case it runs noisily) and not too high on the large gears/small cogs (in which case downshifting is recalcitrant). So basically the OM-1 shifter is definitely better with the OM-1 derailleur, but the Shimano ones work well enough that if I hadnt actually tried an OM-1 I wouldnt have realized what I was missing and got along just fine, kind of like how I could see acceptably but then got a pair of reading glasses and was like, Hey, this is even better!OK, AI, do your thing:Am I really supposed to believe the same technology that created that image is also going to destroy humanity?I guess well find out.Speaking of research, did you know track cyclists defy the laws of physics or something?Well they dont actually, but whatever:They found that the apparent paradox is explained by a brief whole-body backward-then-forward movement before and during gate release, which transfers momentum to the bicycle. Riders shift their body mass backward, then rapidly forward, and slowing that forward body motion creates a powerful forward push on the bike. The results showed that this body-driven impulse dominates the first roughly 0.2 seconds, right before pedaling becomes the main source of acceleration. This may sound cartoonish, but in fact its highly scientific. Indeed, researchers were able to observe this effect by placing a sumptuous avian repast in the middle of a desert road along with a sign reading Free Bird Seed. They then attempted to eat the hungry track cyclist:This causes the track cyclist to flee, at which point you can observe the whole-body backward-then-forward movement here:Researchers then went on to analyze the manner in which crash impact is distributed through the body:Its likely that based on these results the researchers will recommend the UCI adopt full-body accordion suits, though these should be worn vertically instead of horizontally as is currently the custom:So in attempting to entice his prey with a meal and becoming an aerophone in the process, did the Coyote suffer food justice? No, silly, thats not what this means. Food Justice is when the delivery app industry steals your bike lanes: And yes, I realize that sounds deeply cynical. People depend on these apps to make a living and they deserve to be safe. At the same time, if you dont deliver things for a living, its hard not to feel just a little bit resentful:The idea of a bike network as I recall it was to make cyclists safer, which would in turn narrow the gender gap and encourage more people to ride in New York Cityespecially women, who historically dont:The gap between male and female bike riders is a concern for cities across the nation, but in New York this gap has narrowed every year since 2003, and female bike ridership is actually increasing at a faster rate than male ridership. The risk of serious injury or death to commuter cyclists in New York City has dropped by 75 percent in the last decade. The fact that cycling has become safer over the last 10 years is indisputable, but we need to make more progress. Innovations like protected bike lanes are bringing even better safety results for everyone who bikes, walks or drives on our streets. That was from 2011.But instead the bike lanes became mini Major Deegan Expressways, and theyre full of men on electric motorcycles. Furthermore, the current urbanist view is that this should be official policy:Bike lanes are now a permanent part of how New York feeds itself. The Streets Plan due this fall should recognize that reality plainly: the city must design, fund, and govern bike lanes as food, labor, and transportation infrastructure. The food is already moving through these lanes. The workforce is already using them as a workplace. Now the city needs a Streets Plan that treats both as essential.I suppose this was inevitable, since in New York City everything must ultimately yield to commerce, that being what the city was founded upon after all. (The article is written in progressive doublespeak, but this is really about commerce.) And maybe the early 21st century notion of a bike network full of elegantly attired cosmopolitan woman was even a little naive and elitist:Oh well. Ultimately the fate of the bike lanes belongs to whos using them. I just wish theyd stop calling them bike lanes and come up with a new name for themthough we still say we dial our phones, so I guess I should just get used to it.
