State Bikes Launches Ti Track, a Sub $1600 Titanium Fixed-Gear Track Bike
Today, Arizonas State Bicycle Co. has added a new fixed-gear bike to its lineup. However, this one is different from the other track bikes in the line; its made of titanium. Introducing the new Ti Track. Its available as a standalone frame at only $999.99 or as a complete build starting at only $1,599.99. (Photos / State Bicycle)The Ti Tracks frame is constructed from Grade 9 (3Al/2.5V) straight-gauge titanium for the main tubes. Grade 5 (6Al/4V) titanium is used for the dropouts, bottom bracket, and headtube. A bicycle frame made of titanium translates to a frame that resists fatigue and corrosion over its lifetime. The Ti Tracks geometry allows for the use of up to a 38c tire. Thats much wider than what youd typically find on a track-style frame. Each tube on the frame is aero-formed by States production team. This technique helps to balance stiffness with ride quality. The new Ti Tracks build also includes a carbon fork to keep the overall weight down. And, the internal cable routing keeps things looking clean and tidy. If you prefer to run your track bike with brakes, its ok the Ti Track supports both front and rear rim brakes. Ti Track GeometryDetailed SizingOut of the box, the Ti Track is set up with a 4817 gear ratio, which is great for motorin around the urban jungle. The raw sandblasted finish with polished titanium logos gives it a low-key, clean aesthetic. With the new Ti Track, there are multiple component upgrade options. This means that riders can tailor the build to their preferences as time goes on, which is great. 'I've climbed Mont Ventoux quite a lot of times' Pauline Ferrand-Prvot takes expert preparation into Tour de France Femmes defence
Mountain recons, time trial tuning, and the knowledge of home roads are all part of the meticulous preparation Pauline Ferrand-Prvot hopes will carry her to a second Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift title next week. The Visma-Lease a Bike rider will start the race this Saturday in Lausanne as the yellow jersey favourite, having won last year on debut by more than three and a half minutes ahead of Demi Vollering (FDJ United-SUEZ). Addressing the media in a press conference on Wednesday, the Frenchwoman explained she has been plotting her title defence ever since the route was announced last October. She now feels ready, physically and mentally, to take on her big goal of the season. I was speaking with my trainer just before and I think everything is like we expected it to be, she said. My goal since the beginning is to be able to be 100% for the Tour de France. I never really had in mind to win all the races [I competed in this season]. I know that I needed specific preparation to be able to win races. I just picked my battles and I chose the Tour de France as a battle. Last year, Ferrand-Prvot sealed the yellow jersey with a crushing solo win on stage eights summit finish on the Col de la Madeleine, where she drew out more than three minutes over Vollering. The race visits another iconic Tour mountain this edition in Mont Ventoux on what's sure to be a decisive stage seven and the Frenchwoman has done her best to familiarise herself with its slopes. Ive climbed Mont Ventoux quite a lot of times in the past, but also since Ive known it will be in the Tour de France, she said. As Ive said many times, I really like to know where Im putting my wheels, so I went there quite a few times to do some recons. Its a hard climb. Its different to the Madeleine, and I think the wind will have more of an impact. Its a climb that, after Chalet Reynard [14.5km into the 21km], you also need quite some power because its more like a flattish part. Madeleine was really steep and hard and didnt really have parts where you could recover. This one is a bit different. I think maybe we will have more team tactics for Ventoux than we could see last year for Madeleine. Ferrand-Prvot's victory on the Col de la Madeleine proved race-winning last August. (Image credit: Getty Images)One stage Ferrand-Prvot wont be able to rely on her team is day fours 21km individual time trial into Dijon. The Visma-Lease a Bike rider only returned to the road from her mountain bike career last year, and hasnt raced alone against the clock since 2021, when she placed fifth at the French National Championships. Did she feel like she was starting again from zero in preparing for the discipline? I had to start from minus 10, she laughed, but reassured shes now gotten herself up to speed. Since we knew there would be a TT in the Tour, we had a good plan; first of all to get back on the TT bike, then we did the positioning on the TT bike, and then we did more testing, wind tunnel testing, aerosuit testing, and also race simulation, she said. I can say Ive spent a lot of time on my TT bike. I really like it. For me, its kind of a challenge, and I really like this kind of challenge. I took it very seriously, and I think I did my homework quite well. Im happy with how I feel on the TT bike.Though Ferrand-Prvot is winless this year her main yellow jersey rival, Vollering, by contrast, has won 10 times she said she feels relaxed thanks to the smooth preparation she has had. Her recons of the stages have also led her to forecast that there will be suspense until the end in the GC. If shes right, shell have a trump card to play on the final day: stage nine takes place barely a 20-minute drive from her home in Monaco, and includes four ascents of Nices Col dze, her local training climb. Its so special, because the last stage, I do this climb I would say almost every day, she said. I just love this feeling of being able to come back to this climb after the Tour and say, I raced there and I gave it my best. For all these reasons, I feel happy and at the moment relaxed. Lets see in a few days, maybe I will be crying and unhappy, but at the moment Im in a good way.The Frenchwoman hopes to be the first rider to win the Tour de France Femmes twice. (Image credit: Getty Images)The great engineer Alexander Graham Bell once said: Before anything else, preparation is the key to success. Ferrand-Prvot, of course, isnt trying to invent the telephone, but she knows the rule still applies to bike racing, and her goal of claiming the yellow jersey again. If she achieves it, shell be the first person in the races five-year history to win twice. Its a feat to which shed like to lay claim, and yet with three sleeps until the Grand Dpart, shes not getting hung up on it. Because I won last year, now I say, Ok, it will not change my life to win it again. Even if Im super motivated, and if I try really hard to do it again, there will be a tomorrow', she said. This makes me feel really relaxed because I will just give my best and we will see. Theres nothing more I can do. The nine-day Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift begins this Saturday 1 August in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Car adman turned road safety and sustainability advocate Tom Flood to speak in Dublin
Tom Flood whose work used to include car advertising but who turned his skills to promoting road safety and mobility beyond cars is to speak at an event in Dublin on September 22nd.The events organisers point out that Flood is renowned for his efforts to reframe the narrative around road safety, road violence and active transportation. If you havent heard of his name, you might have seen one of his images shared on social media, usually branded with his companys name, Rovlo Creative.Like others, he contends that road violence is no accident, but rather a predictable outcome of a transport system that focuses on moving cars, not people. But Flood uses his advertising experience to get this message out as part of advocacy work as well as for clients who are interested in doing the same. While sustainable transport campaign groups often couch their words, Flood unapologetically uses the directness seen in advertising messaging to try to disrupt the dominant car-focused narrative. Often using quotes, phrases and concepts over and over again like advertising does to get through to people. His work includes social media posts, posters and T-shirts with the messages: bicycles deliver the freedom that auto ads promise (for which theres an Irish translation, see below), and that We ask everybody outside of the car to be safe so that drivers can be dangerous.IMAGE: Some of Floods creative work.Humour plays a large part of his work, for example, the idea that 15 Minute Cities are no big conspiracy rather just lazy because advocates dont want to walk far for stuff, and an image of a retro vintage striped sunset background with driver holding a phone with the text They came out of noewhere a phrase which is widely given as an excuse when motorists hit somebody that they were not looking for. The talk will take place as part of EU Mobility Week 2026 and will see the Canadian communications expert and active travel advocate speak in Ireland for the first time. The events organisers explain Floods background as follows: Tom worked in advertising for many years, with a wide range of clients, including automotive manufacturers. His direction changed after taking his kids to school on their bikes and seeing the imbalance on our streets. He now develops strategy and creative for clients through Rovlo Creative and gives talks around framing and communications as it applies to road safety, road violence and active transportation.IMAGES: The bicycles deliver the freedom that auto ads promise image and the Irish translation: Tugann rothair an tsaoirse a gheallann fgra gluaistein. The talk will take place at the Synge Theatre in the Arts Block, Trinity College Dublin on Tuesday, September 22nd from 7-9pm, with the talk taking around 45 minutes followed by a Q&A session. The event is free, but booking is required via eventbrite.ie.The event is being co-organised by the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice, Irish Cycling Campaign, Doctors for the Environment, I Bike Dublin, Dublin Commuter Coalition, and Trinity College Dublin.IMAGE: Some of Floods focuses in on the reasons why some people become cycling or sustainability campaigners including a mother who wants to be able to cycle their child to school safely or a woman who just wanted to go for a bike ride and now parking minimums haunt her dreams.
