Buena Nota: A (Solo) Bikepacking Journey in Colombia
Despite being alone on his bikepacking trip to Colombia last year, Paulo LaBerge quickly learned he'd never truly be on his own in the country, thanks to the countless friendly, helpful people who encouraged and guided him along the way. Canyon Exceed CFR Gravel Adventure-Ready Dropbar Option For Refreshed XC Hardtail
Who rides XC hardtails anymore? Canyon has the answer with this new Exceed CFR Gravel bike build and its ultra-distance adventure bikepacking racers in addition to classic cross-country and marathon riders. Dropbars on a mountain bike? Yes, please, say the backcountry lunatics riders taking on tough multi-day adventure bikepacking races like Tour Divide, Silk Road, Atlas & Hellenic mountain races. At the same time, the regular flat bar Exceed hardtail once again gets a CFR frame option, still perfect for mountain bikers looking to get the best bang for their buck in a light, XC & marathon race-ready mountain bike. Theres nothing like a lightweight carbon hardtail for that feeling of rocket-like speed and pedaling efficiency. And now the top-tier XC bike is back, and a tiny bit more accessible. Canyon Exceed goes far with new CFR flat & drop bar builds2025 Canyon Exceed CF hardtail (All photos/Canyon)Last year, Canyon revamped their carbon XC hardtail, with more modern geometry (long reach, 67 head angle, 75 seat angle), improved standover, added internal frame storage, an extra bottle cage mount under the downtube, return to a threaded BSA bottom bracket, and a UDH update. But there was only a CF-level carbon frame layup at around 1500g. The lightweight carbon Exceed hardtail has long been the lightest mountain bike Canyon made. And it always was a pretty affordable to get a rocket-fast off-road bike with complete CF carbon mountain bike builds from 2000-5000.But with the added adventure-ready capabilities of last years update, the Exceed was really itching for some lighter CFR-level builds. And now Canyon has delivered with two options dropbar for gravel adventures and flat bar for more traditional cross-country & marathon riding.Dropbar mountain bike for gravel adventuresSure, gravel bikes are cool and fast and all. But for multiple days riding the roughest tracks, nothing beats the efficiency of a hardtail, the comfort of proper high-volume mountain bike tires and a real suspension fork, plus the multiple hand positions of a dropbar to limit hand & wrist fatigue.Canyon describes the dropbar build as a response to adventure racers looking for more progressive gravel bike setups:Riders are increasingly moving beyond conventional, off-the-shelf gravel and hardtail setupsand instead custom-fitting drop bars to mountain bike frames. The goal is specific: MTB-level grip, toughness, and gearingpaired with the ergonomics of a drop-bar cockpit. Rather than asking riders to piece together compromises from spare parts, the new Exceed CFR Gravel brings that formula together straight from the factory by offering the Exceeds capability in a drop-bar build.A key element of that is a special edition Fox 32 Step Cast fork (only shown on the studio photos, not the custom bike setup from this years Atlas Mountain Race) that has been reduced to just 60mm of front travel (down from the stock 100mm). Canyons geometry chart for the Exceed CFR Gravel doesnt show the impacts of that reduced axle-to-crown length. But by shortening the fork by 4cm: it steepens the headtube angle to 68.9, the seat angle to 76.9, lowers the bottom bracket 14mm, and increases frame Reach to 467 & lowers Stack to 598mm (for a size M). All of those changes go to making the drop bar bike handling quicker than the XC version, without losing stability.Exceed CFR Gravel complete build spec:frame: Canyon Exceed CFR hi-mod carbon frame with internal storage, claimed 1250gfork: special 60mm travel-reduced Fox 32 SC Performancehandlebar: 40cm wide integrated Canyon CP0039 1-piece carbon Gear Groove cockpit from the Graildrivetrain: SRAM Rival AXS controls paired to S1000 AXS Eagle T-type derailleurwheels: Canyon GR 30 CF, 30mm internal hookless tubeless carbon wheelset with DT 350 Boost Ratchet hubstires: 29 x 2.4 Maxxis Aspen ST EXO MaxxSpeedseatpost: VCLS 2.0 carbon leaf springsaddle: Ergon SPR20 TiNox10.2kg (22.5lb) total bike weight (claimed)Lightweight, trail-ready classic flat bar XC hardtailBesides creating a gravel adventure racing build, the Exceed still is Canyons bread-and-butter XC hardtail, so its nice to see the CF model now get a 255g lighter CFR option, too.So whether you are looking for an everyday XC bike, a marathon race setup, or even a full-travel slacker flat bar setup for adventure racing, the new Exceed CFR in this more traditional mountain bike build is both lightweight and versatile. Canyon calls it the definitive benchmark for cross-country minimalism.Exceed CFR hardtail complete build spec:frame: Canyon Exceed CFR hi-mod carbon frame with internal storage, claimed 1250gfork: 100mm RockShox SID SL Ultimate handlebar: 74cm wide integrated Canyon CP0039 1-piece carbon cockpit from the Lux World Cupdrivetrain: SRAM XX SL AXS Eagle transmissionwheelset: DT Swiss XRC 1200, 30mm internal hookless tubeless carbon wheelset with DT 180 EXP hubstires: 29 x 2.4 Schwalbe Racing Ray front & Racing Ralph rear Super Race, Addix Speed (red)seatpost: VCLS 2.0 carbon leaf springsaddle: Ergon SPR20 Pro Carbon9.6kg (21.2lb) total bike weight (claimed)2026 Canyon Exceed CFR flat or drop bar builds Pricing & availabilitySo, the new 2026 Canyon Exceed CFR XC hardtail gets two build options: classic flat bar or gravel-ready drop bar. The more traditional XC version is the more expensive of the two 5700 / 6000 for the Exceed CFR AXS with its XXSL build and DT XRC1200 wheels available in XS-XL.The more unique dropbar setup is a bit more affordable, mostly due to a lower-spec SRAM AXS drivetrain and house-brand carbon wheels. 3800 / 4000 with get you an adventure-ready dropbar Exceed CFR Gravel AXS available only in sizes S-XL.Notably, there are prices for Europe & the UK, but at this stage this bike isnt available onCanyon.com in the USA, nor for delivery to US-based customers. Maybe that will change if someone wins Tour Divide or something like the Unbound XL or Leadville 100 on it?Canyon.com

Full Results: Stage 3 Junior Tour of Ireland 2026
Quanta Capital Junior Tour of Ireland Stage 3, Ennis to Whitegate, 102.4kmThe McCrystal name has been written across Irish cycling for the best part of two decades. Today, Thursday in East Clare, a new one was added to it.Rian McCrystal produced the ride of his young career on the road to Whitegate, winning Stage 3 of the Quanta Capital Junior Tour of Ireland and taking the yellow jersey of race leader in the process. The Cycling Ireland rider stayed with the sharp end of the race over the days two categorised climbs and outsprinted the Hot Tubes pair of Alex Botha and Cormac Nagle to take the stage in 2h0534, the 102.4km covered at an average of almost 49kph.He is the son of Bryan McCrystal, and the nephew of Eve McCrystal one of the most decorated cyclists Ireland has produced, the Paralympic champion who piloted Katie-George Dunlevy to gold on the tandem and gathered world titles and national championships along the way.Bryans own record is that of a rider who has never quite gone away. A time triallist by trade, he was fourth in the national road race championship in 2014 and fifth in the national time trial in both 2013 and 2016, a season in which he also finished second on a stage of Rs Tailteann and second in that races King of the Mountains competition. He rode for the Continental outfit Holdsworth Pro Racing in 2018.At 45, he is still at it. This May he lined out at Rs Tailteann once more, finishing 88th overall, and in March he took third at the Coombes Connor. Ten years after his father came within a wheel of a Rs stage win, Rian went one better on Irish roads.A day that reshaped the raceMcCrystals win did more than claim a stage. He now leads the general classification on 5h4355, two seconds clear of Stage 1 winner Glen Gregory Koiv, with Botha a further two seconds back in third the tightest of margins with three stages still to run.He also tops the points competition on 33, and leads the First Year Junior classification. So complete was the day that two jerseys had to pass down the order: the green of the points competition goes to Fraser Gemmell, and the white of the First Year Junior to Botha, both classifications led by a rider already in yellow.Hugh g Mulhearne kept the Wicklow 200 mountains jersey in Cycling Ireland colours, winning both King of the Mountains primes to stretch his lead in that competition.Of the 120 riders who started in Ennis, 118 reached Whitegate. The race standsYellow (General Classification): Rian McCrystal (Cycling Ireland) 5h4355Green (Points): Rian McCrystal, 33pts jersey worn by Fraser GemmellWicklow 200 (Mountains): Hugh g Mulhearne (Cycling Ireland), 18ptsWhite (First Year Junior): Rian McCrystal jersey worn by Alex BothaTeam: Hot Tubes, 17h1229The race continues on Friday with Stage 4, a demanding 122.8km run through the Burren to Kilfenora.Yellow GC Quanta CapitalRian MccrystalCycling IrelandGreen Points Cross InsurancesRian MccrystalCycling IrelandPolka Mountains Wicklow 200Hugh Og MulhearneCycling IrelandSearch the GC & find a riderLook up any rider or classification standingStage 3 Result fullS3Stage 3 Result1Rian MccrystalCycling Ireland2h05m34s2Alex BothaHot Tubes2h05m34s3Cormac NagleHot Tubes2h05m34s4Hugh Og MulhearneCycling Ireland2h05m40s5Ethan CoursonDdp Elite Cycling2h05m40s6Clark LavoieTeam Velosport2h05m40s7Nathan RiemerBoulder Junior Cycling2h05m40s8Fraser GemmellSpokes Racing Team - Yellow jersey Torstein Tren crashes on stage six of Tour de France
Yellow jersey Torstein Tren crashed on the descent of the Col du Tourmalet on stage six of the 2026 Tour de France. The Uno-X Mobility rider was already losing time on stage six leader Tadej Pogaar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) when the incident happened, but the crash saw him fully out of contention.Treen clipped wheels with his Uno-X teammate Anders Halland Johannessen on a corner and hit the ground. However, after being checked on by his team, the Norwegian was back on his bike and looked to be OK to continue, laughing with Halland Johannessen. After the crash, Tren was almost 13 minutes behind Pogaar, wiping out his 7:53 advantage which existed pre-stage.Tren gained yellow on stage four of the Tour in Foix after he was part of a giant breakaway which finished almost 13 minutes ahead of the peloton. However, his stay in the leader's jersey was short-lived, in the baking hot Pyrenees on Thursday afternoon; a shorter time than his four days in red at the Vuelta a Espaa last year.On Wednesday, he said: "We have to see how fast they're going. And of course, Tadej is Tadej, and I think if he goes full gas on the Tourmalet, maybe I will be behind. You don't know how much you will be losing. We've just got to see tomorrow.""We haven't had a lot of realmountain climbingyet," he added. "So we don't know what will happen, and then with this heat everything can happen, so you just have to hope and do your best."More to follow...

Tadej Pogaar destroys field in Pyrenees on stage 6 of Tour de France to take win and yellow jersey
Tadej Pogaar stormed to victory on stage six of the 2026 Tour de France, ripping up the general classification in the process, and taking back the yellow jersey on Thursday. The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider flew away on the Col du Tourmalet, 43km from the finish, and put over two minutes into his closest rival, Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), by the finish. It is his 23rd stage win at the race, and second of this Tour already.Pogaar won the Souvenir Jacques Goddet over the top of the Tourmalet, with just 30 seconds on Vingegaard, but pushed on down the descent and on the final climb to Gavarnie-Gdre. Meanwhile, previous yellow jersey Torstein Tren (Uno-X Mobility) crashed after losing time, ending his time in the race lead. Isaac del Toro (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) finished third.Del Toro was part of a chase group including the other main favourites, like Remco Evenepoel and Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) and Paul Seixas (Decathlon CMA CGM), which finished 2:57 behind the winner.Pogaar now leads the race by 2:42 over Vingegaard, just six days into this Tour.
