- BIKERUMOR.COMNukeproof Expands its Affordable Tracker Lineup with New Tracker FS Enduro BikeEarlier this year, we reported on Nukeproofs new, very affordable Tracker hardtail lineup. Today, Nukeproof and parent company Belgian Cycling Factory (BCF) are expanding the Tracker range with the launch of the all-new Tracker FS enduro mountain bike. Based on the 3x EWS Championship-winning Nukeproof Mega, the Tracker FS was created to deliver similar performance at a much more accessible price point. The new Tracker FS shares the Megas geometry, travel, and kinematics and comes with a thoughtfully chosen component spec that keeps the complete bike price down to just 1,999 / 2,499. That aggressive pricing makes it among the best value enduro bikes around, a deal made even sweeter when you consider BCF/Nukeproofs new transferable lifetime warranty policy.Tracker FS is our answer to one of the biggest issues in the industry right now. Brands have become too focused on high-end bike exotica, which can feel tone-deaf when riders and dealers are asking for great bikes at fair prices. This is a perfect example of bringing our legendary, award-winning performance to riders in an incredible value package. We have plenty of exciting high-end bikes in development, and we believe youll see exceptional value in those, too. Weve kept the heart and soul of Nukeproof in our product plans while adding the skills and experience of the new team to bring awesome new bikes like the Tracker FS to market.-Russell Merry, Managing Director at NukeproofNukeproof Tracker FS DetailsThe Tracker FS frame is made from aluminum, and Nukeproof says it shares the same geometry, travel, and suspension kinematic as the renowned Mega 297 enduro bike. Compared to the Mega Alloy, the brand says it simplified elements of the Trackers frame design to keep the price down. This includes external cable routing, a less complex top tube shape, a non-butted downtube, modified dropouts and yokes, and more.Still, it retains a similar look and, according to Nukeproof, the same performance as the Mega. It has 165mm of rear wheel travel, comes with a 170mm fork, and it rolls on mixed wheel sizes. The frame has standard Boost 12 x 148mm rear axle spacing, a threaded bottom bracket, a bottle mount on the downtube, and an accessory/tool mount on the underside of the top tube. The frame comes with custom rubber downtube, chainstay, and seat stay protectors. In addition to its low price, Nukeproof says the Tracker FS also undercuts many competing enduro bikes in terms of weight. The claimed complete bike weight is 17.2kg (37.9 lbs.) including tubes, but without pedals.External routingGeometryAs mentioned, the Tracker FS shares most of its geometry with the Mega enduro bike, meaning its been designed to ride fast down aggressive terrain. Its a proven formula that still appears to be pretty spot-on by todays standards for the enduro category, despite the Mega not being updated in several years. Key angles include the 64 head tube angle and 77.5 78 seat tube angle. It comes in five frame sizes, S-XXL, with reach growing from 430mm (S) to 515 mm (XXL), and chainstay length at 435mm across all sizes. Check out the chart below for the rest of the details.BuildAccording to Nukeproof, component specification was a major focus with the Tracker FS. Keeping the price accessible while prioritizing component performance and durability is a tough balance to strike. To that end, Nukeproof says, Working closely with suppliers, the team prioritized performance-critical areas such as suspension, brakes, and tires over components that riders commonly personalize later, such as handlebars.Fork: RockShox Domain R, 170mmShock: RockShox Deluxe Select RDrivetrain: Shimano Deore M6200 12-speedBrakes: SRAM DB8 4-piston w/ 200/180mm SRAM Centerline rotorsWheels: WTB ST i30 Tough w/ Shimano TC500 hubs (taped, tubeless valves incl.)Tires: Schwalbe Magic Mary Trail, 27.5/29 x 2.4Dropper: X-Fusion Manic LC (S: 125mm, M: 150mm, L/XL/XXL: 170mm)Cockpit: Nukeproof Electron handlebar, saddle, gripsMSRP: 1,999 / 2,499AvailabilityThe affordable Nukeproof Tracker FS officially launched today. - BIKERUMOR.COMJust In: 5 New 32 Maxxis Tires For Gravel, XC & Trail, Because Theyre Winning Races Now!OK, so 32 bikes are showing up at the top level of cycling races. And actually winning races now, too. Its a thing, now.First, it was a Cape Epic stage in March on dual Aspens. Then, Sea Otters DH race in April on a mullet 32 Maxxis Aspen & 29 Conti Cross King combo. Next up, the 356-mile Unbound XL win on 32 Schwalbe G-One RX gravel tires. And today, the first elite UCI XC World Cup short track race on 32 wheels ended with a podium on Schwalbe Rick Race Pro tires. But you cant win races without the right tire suited for the racetrack and the current course conditions.(Photos/Cory Benson)Earlier this spring, Maxxis rolled out five new 32 tires to create the only comprehensive tire line-up in the business. And weve got a hold of them all and are starting to test em out.How much do 32 Maxxis tires actually weigh?gravel: Aspen ST; cross-country: Aspen ST, Aspen & Aspen AT; and trail: Forekaster & Dissector. Now that we have all the 32 tires that Maxxis offers, we can see how much they actually weigh. And they are surprisingly not all that much more than 29 tires. Maybe at most 40-75g more than their 29er analogues? Thats not much weigh penalty to pay if Maxxis claims of 7% lower rolling resistance hold water.697g Aspen ST 322.15 Hypr-X gravel, 120tpi EXO 810g Aspen ST32x2.4 MaxxSpeed, 120tpi EXO 812g Aspen 322.4 MaxxSpeed, 120tpi EXO 880g Aspen AT 322.4 MaxxSpeed, 120tpi EXO 1109g Forekaster 322.4 MaxxTerra, 60tpi EXO 1186g Dissector 322.4 MaxxTerra, 60tpi EXO How big are they really?32/29 vs. 29/27.5 mullet trail bike comparisonLets just say when I pulled a regular 29/27.5 mullet wheel setup off the Amflow PX that were testing, the front and rear wheels are noticeably different in size, but its not extreme. 27.5, 29 & 32 x 2.4 tiresWhen I leaned my 32 Dissector against them, the difference is pretty surprising.Comparing like 2.4 trail tires The 27.5 tire is 28.15 tall (71.5cm), the 29 tire is 29.72 tall (75.5cm), and the 32 tire is 32.48 tall (82.5cm). That makes the 32 tire 9.3% larger in diameter than 29, or 15.4% bigger than 27.5. While 29 is just 5.6% larger than 27.5. That translates directly into the same 9.3% longer rollout or higher speed at the same gearing. That means you would need to drop 3-teeth on a chainring to maintain the same gear ratios, likely opting for 2 fewer teeth to go faster, or 4 fewer and make climbing easier with the slightly heavier wheel+tire combo.First Impressions: How do 32 tires ride?Look, its late on Friday. And I still havent spent enough time on each of these tires, nor have I ridden enough different wheels yet, to really come to a final conclusion yet. But I can share a few first impressionsThe less-knobby 32 tires feel marginally more sluggish compared to the same tire in 29er guise. But honestly, my average speeds dont suggest it being any slower. In fact, the opposite. When I rode with other people on 29 bikes, it seemed like I didnt have to push as hard as usual to maintain the same speed as them.Hmmm(Photo by Patrik Prochazka/Blinduro)On the more aggressive knobby trail tire setup, especially on steeper trails, I couldnt even notice any sluggishness at all. Climbing forest roads & singletrack, riding steep, wet, loose & rough enduro tracks, I expected to have to work harder to maneuver the bigger front wheel in my 32/29 mullet all-mountain setup. But I didnt. It felt like I had a lot more grip that I should with this middle-of-the-road tread and not supper sticky MaxxTerra rubber. Rollover seems easier, even having reduced my Wren inverted fork travel by 2cm. I was surprised how familiar the suspension still felt. And I look forward to more time on the trail tires, both on this full-sus mullet trail bike and my simpler 32-specific XC hardtail. These are interesting times.Maxxis.comThe post Just In: 5 New 32 Maxxis Tires For Gravel, XC & Trail, Because Theyre Winning Races Now! appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 2125 Visualizações
- BIKERUMOR.COMCommencal Refines the Supreme DH V5.2 to Make It Faster Than EverThe Supreme DH V5 came out back in 2022 and has proven to be a force to be reckoned with on the World Cup DH circuit. Just recently, Commencal announced the latest version of its downhill racing weapon, the Supreme DH V5.2. Rather than a complete overhaul, the Supreme DH received a host of updates and refinements aimed at enhancing its performance to make one of the winningest downhill bikes faster than ever. The Supreme DH V5.2 looks nearly identical to its predecessor, and in many ways it is. But when you take a closer look, the subtle updates become more apparent. The biggest changes are an evolved suspension design and kinematics, along with a new rear brake caliper mount location. Combined, Commencal says the Supreme DH V5.2 offers a more dynamic ride with increased control to keep pace with modern DH.Whats New?Much of what we learned about the Supreme DH V5 when it launched remains true for V5.2. The geometry has not changed, nor have the distinctive aesthetics. The frame gets 220mm of rear wheel travel, paired with a 200mm fork and a mixed-wheel-size configuration. The V5.2 updates are simply refinements to an already class-leading downhill bike, aimed at improving its suspension performance, braking performance, drivetrain compatibility, cable routing, and noise.HVCS 2.0The pivot point has been shifted from the chainstay to the seat stay on the HVCS 2.0 suspension layout.Arguably, the biggest change to the Supreme DH is in the suspension design. It still uses the 6-bar HVCS (High Virtual Contact System) layout, but Commencal has shifted the pivot point from the chainstay to the seat stay. According to Commencal, repositioning this virtual pivot point dramatically alters the bikes dynamic balance and fundamentally changes how the frame manages rider input and terrain forces.Additionally, they say the new kinematic layout increases support and enhances responsiveness, resulting in a more dynamic bike that provides clearer feedback to the rider, with greater speed and precision. Interestingly, Commencal states that despite the increased dynamism, the HVCS 2.0 suspension layout also translates into enhanced comfort at high speeds, which is becoming even more important as speeds continue to rise across the board.Brake Caliper LocationThe revised brake caliper mount location on the Supreme DH V5.2.Along with the HVCS 2.0 update and revised pivot point location, Commencal has shifted the mount for the rear brake to a new location. According to the brand, the revised caliper position works with the HVCS 2.0 kinematics to keep the suspension active under braking and reduce weight transfer to the front wheel.Additionally, this reworked brake design is said to deliver a stronger bite and more effective deceleration, resulting in increased control and confidence. Commencal also tells us that this redesign reduces rear brake overheating incidents and has eliminated brake-induced vibrations.CompatibilitySRAMs new XX DH Transmission requires DH bikes to adopt the UDH standard. This will sound like a no-brainer, but the V5.2 finally adopts the UDH standard, ensuring compatibility with all drivetrains, including the latest SRAM XX DH T-Type. Additionally, Commencal states that the lower shock mount area has been redesigned to accommodate a wider range of the latest DH shocks, including the new Fox Float X2.Other UpdatesRevised cable ports enter at the head tube.Commencal says that the new dual-density rubber chainstay and seat stay protectors help reduce chain slap and noise without any impact on suspension performance. Theyve also revised the internal cable routing to run through ports in the head tube for cleaner look, improved sealing against water and dirt, and easier maintenance on race weekends.Supreme DH V5.2: Builds and PricingCommencals new Supreme DH V5.2 is available as a frame-only in Pure White for $3,500.
