Trek Introduces New RSL Lace Road Cycling and Mountain Bike Shoes
If youre among the many riders who prefer the simplicity and comfort of traditional shoe laces on their cycling shoes, Trek has two new race-ready options with the new RSL Lace Road and MTB Shoes. Built with the same 100% OCLV carbon sole, METNET uppers, and Trek Pro Last as the existing BOA-equipped RSL Road and Mountain shoes, the new lace-up versions come in at a lower price, lighter weight, and with claimed aerodynamic gains. The Trek RSL Lace Road and the standard, BOA-equipped RSL Road.Whats New With the Treks RSL Lace ModelsFirst, foremost, and most obviously, laces are the main thing thats new with the RSL Lace shoes. According to Trek, the sleek profile created by the lace closure is more aerodynamic and delivers measurable watt savings. On top of that, Trek says the laces offer a precise, customizable fit while also reducing the weight of both models.Trek says the RSL Lace Road shoes save watts compared to the BOA version.Aero GainsBased on the results of wind tunnel testing, Trek says the RSL Lace Road shoes are measurably faster than their BOA-equipped sibling, saving riders an average of 1.84 watts of free speed, at 45kph. Trek includes Aero Lace Covers with the RSL shoes, which keep the laces tidy and air flowing smoothly over the top of the foot.Lighter WeightTrek also claims a weight savings of 38-39 grams per shoe for the RSL Lace models compared to their BOA-equipped counterparts. The claimed weight of the RSL Lace Road is 211 grams per shoe (size 42), whereas the BOA version is stated at 249 grams per shoe in the same size.Likewise, the RSL Lace MTB has a claimed weight of 272 grams per shoe (size 42), while the BOA version is 311 grams per shoe in the same size. The RSL Lace shoes are also claimed to be ~39 gram lighter than their BOA counterparts.ComfortSimple, effective, and customizable, the adjustability of laces allows riders to customize the shoe tension and fit to their exact preferences. Combined with the METNET relief zones in the uppers and the wider performance fit of the Pro Last, Trek claims it all works together to relieve metatarsal pressure and provide all-day comfort.Laces paired with Treks METNET technology.Locked-In PowerAlong with the uber-stiff 100% OCLV Carbon plates underfoot, Trek has added an all-new Watt Lock internal structure to provide additional foot stability and security and optimize pedaling efficiency and power transfer throughout the entire pedal stroke.Lower PriceShoe laces cost significantly less than BOA closures, and thats reflected in the price of the RSL Lace models. Both the RSL Lace Road and RSL Lace Mountain shoes are priced at $375, well below the $495 asking price for the BOA versions. RSL Lace Road vs. RSL Lace MountainThe off-road sole of the RSL Lace Mountain Bike shoe.Like the BOA versions of the RSL Road and MTB models, the Lace versions look nearly identical to each other, with the primary difference being the sole. The Mountain Bike version is compatible with 2-bolt cleats, and the 100% OCLV Carbon plate is covered with a lugged rubber tread to provide off-bike traction and walkability. The Road shoes carbon plate/sole remains largely exposed, with a 3-bolt cleat interface, under toe and mid-foot vents, and rubber pads at the toe and heel. Otherwise, the shoes share the following specs and design features. The sole of the RSL Lace Road Cycling shoe.METNET relief zones stretch and conform to the foot to relieve common spots of discomfort.Trek Pro Last provides a wider performance fit to better match the average footCustomize your comfort by tightening or loosening the laces in certain areas100% OCLV Carbon plate provides excellent power transfer for optimal pedaling efficiencyWatt Lock internal structure secures the foot for more efficient power transfer on the upstroke of every pedal revolutionImproved heel gives lace shoes better fit and comfort on every rideBoth the RSL Lace Road and MTB shoes are unisex and available in whole EU sizes from 36 to 48, with half sizes from 38.5 to 45.5. At present, the RSL Lace shoes are offered in white only.Trek RSL Lace Road Cycling Shoe: $375Tested 1.8 watts faster at 45kph in the wind tunnel compared to RSL Road with BOA 211g per shoe (size 42)Compatible with 3-bolt cleatsTrek RSL Lace MTB: $375Designed for XC World Cup racers looking for every aero and weight advantage to win272g per shoe (size 42)Compatible with 2-bolt SPD-style cleatsTrek RSL Lace Shoes: AvailabilityThe new RSL Lace Road Cycling and Mountain Bike Shoes are available now. Congested M50 shows strong need to restart planning for Metro West, says TD
A Dublin TD has said in the Dil chamber that he and fellow TDs will be retired or more likely dead by the time that Dublins Metro West is finally built if there isnt a renewed focus on the project. The call is in line with transport and tendering experts, who say that Ireland should have a pipeline of projects in planning so the country can retain more staff from those projects. The 24.7km orbital line would link Tallaght, Clondalkin, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Blanchardstown, and just north of Ballymun, where it would link with MetroLink and Dublin AirportPaul Donnelly, a Sinn Fin TD for Dublin West, said: Metro West has been cancelled until 2042. I am pleading with the Minister to please put this back on the agenda because how long has it taken for Metro North [now replaced by MetroLink] to get to this stage? We will all be retired actually, we will probably all have shuffled off this mortal coil by the time it is done.He said: Metro West will connect the Dart+ to Maynooth and the newly proposed Navan rail line at Metro North. We know the M50 is at capacity. If that is not a reason to get it started now, I do not know what is. It is really time for the public transport network to be a network system that works for all. We see it in every major European country.MetroWest was being planned before the 2011 recession, when it was scrapped, and later the project was also removed from the National Transport Authoritys Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy for a claimed lack of demand to justify the project.Even the current 2022-2042 version of the transport strategy includes the claims, under the header of Orbital Luas, that analysis shows demand for orbital public transport in the Metropolitan area during the period of the strategy can be satisfactorily accommodated by bus.The note on this point states that the case for rail may change with shifting development patterns over the coming years. Transport Infrasture Ireland, the public body responsible for light rail planning, has since pushed the idea that an orbital Luas would be part of a package of light rail lines beyond whats currently planned for the capital, but there are few signs that the Government is willing to accelerate currently planned light rail projects, never mind add more Luas or Metro projects to the list.IMAGE: A map as part of TIIs push for future Luas lines. Deputy Donnelly added: The Dart+ will be brilliant when it comes into play, but it is very disjointed. We need Metro West connecting with Dart+. We need BusConnects and the NTA listening to the people who are on the ground they are the bus users and know what works. I urge the Minister to have a chat with the NTA and ask it to listen to us.Deputy Donnelly raised the issue during a Dil debate on extending the powers of the NTA outside of the Greater Dublin Area.Minister of Transport, Darragh OBrien, said that the proposed extension of the NTAs remit is a technical legal change. He said the change Is needed if BusConnects is to be progressed by the NTA, outside of the Greater Dublin area, specifically into the metropolitan areas of Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford in collaboration with the local authorities. This will provide the NTA with the same statutory powers it currently exercises in the Greater Dublin Area.He added: The NTA has the capacity and experience in progressing megaprojects having successfully secured planning consents for all 12 of its core bus corridor schemes in Dublin. As I mentioned, two of those have either begun or will enter into construction shortly. This Bill will ensure that the delivery of vital infrastructure is underpinned by a robust and appropriate legislative framework.ALSO READ: Dublin should build Metrowests bridge now for walking, cycling, buses ahead of a metroIMAGE: The Metor West proposed back in 2007 .
