- IRISHCYCLE.COMAfter criticisms of delays, council confirms new section of South East Greenway to openBilled as eventually connecting the Norman Town of New Ross to the Viking city of Waterford, the latest section of the along-awaited South East Greenway is due to open this month. The 7km section from Waterford City to Curraghmore has been substantially complete for the last 12 months, but is awaiting the construction of car parks on both ends, and other elements. The delays with the project, which runs through parts of Wexford, Waterford, and Kilkenny, seem to be mainly linked to Waterfords North Quays development.Kieran Kelly, an admin of the popular Greenways Ireland Group on Facebook, said: Delays on the South East Greenway are no longer just frustrating theyre unacceptable. In a recent post, he said: Businesses in New Ross were depending on this project to bring tourism and income, but continued delays mean some are now struggling, with real fears of closures or being forced to sell.IMAGE: The ramp down to the greenway at North Quays in Waterford. Above and main images thanks to Gerard Murphy.Theres still no clear timeline for full completion, and funding being drip-fed year by year only adds to the uncertainty. Greenways work but only when theyre actually delivered, he said.A spokesperson for Kilkenny County Council said: In summary, the completed South East Greenway, connecting New Ross to Waterford City, will deliver 24km of segregated greenway. To date, 14km of greenway are now substantially completed. Phase 1, New Ross to Glenmore, was opened in July 2023, while Phase 2, Curraghmore to Ferrybank, is expected to open at the end of this month. The opening of the latter was always dependent on a suitable access point from the Abbey Road area in Ferrybank. This access point, along with a small temporary trailhead carpark, is being provided for under the North Quays development, and the Greenway Team continue to engage with Waterford City & County Council on this matter, the spokesperson said. The council said that over 2025 and in Q1 2026, what it called finishing out works have continued on Phase 2 of the route. This includes completion of a temporary trailhead carpark at Curraghmore, safety measures at road crossing points, boundary treatment with adjoining landholdings, and among other works. The spokesperson added: Detail design works and engagement with adjoining landowners also continues the remaining sections of greenway to be completed, and the next works tender for Phase 3, Red Bridge Mountelliot Tunnel, is expected to be advertised later this year.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 363 Views
- BIKERUMOR.COMKnog Cobber Reflex Lights Adjust Output Based on Speed, Lean AngleKnog has been around for ages, but it seems like lately theyre really coming back strong. Knogs latest lights add Adaptive Reflex technology to their already impressive Cobber series (which were launched back in 2017), which delivers an exceptionally wide 330 beam angle. Knog is calling them smart lights for analog bikes, though you could totally run these on your ebike, too. Now, they automatically dim or brighten based on how bright it is out, how fast youre going, and how far youre leaning your bike. That latter one? Its mostly for the rear, changing the strobe effect to animate a right or left turn, acting like a quasi-turn signal.Otherwise, the lights get brighter as you speed up or head into a dark tunnel (or, you know, you ride at night). You can customize the modes via their web app (and save the profiles like commuting, training, etc.) or just rely on the four standard modes. Output varies by model, and here are your options:FRONTREARMODELUMENSRUNTIMELUMENSRUNTIMEHigh1502.5 hr752.5 hrLow508 hr208 hrHype3508 hr2508 hrEco4040 hr2070 hrBoth lights feature automatic (motion-based) on/off, USB-C charging, and excellent side visibility. And while the front is brighter, the rear is the workhorse with a couple of extra benefits.First, it has the aforementioned lateral effects when you lean into a turn. More practically, an accelerometer senses when you slow down and brightens to act like a brake light. And because the light spreads so far around to the sides, it illuminates the backside of your legs, adding a bio-motion effect that makes you stand out even more to drivers coming up from behind. Both are lightweight, waterproof, and come with quick-release mounts.Maybe the best part is the MSRP is $79.99 per light, which is the same price as the original Cobber. Or, theyre available in a bundle for a bit less at $149.99. - BIKERUMOR.COMThule Widesky Reinvents Rooftop Tents with Lightweight, Pop-Up DesignThe all-new Thule Widesky rooftop tent is a lightweight hardshell that delivers the room of a vertical-opening model but the convenience of a clamshell. Meaning, you can open it completely from the back, but theres no tight corner at the front preventing you from really sitting up inside.Tyler saw this in person at SEMA 2025 (video here, skip to 22:30, or just watch the whole thing for lots of killer new overland gear), and its impressive in its simplicity. Or, at least when it comes to opening and closing it. Just release a few latches, and it opens on its own. Then just pull the long corded handle to close it back up. The fabric self-tucks as it closes, and everything just compresses into the hardshell easy peasy. This is a premium tent in every sense, with a couple of clever features that further set it apart. For example, the bed converts to a couch simply by pulling two cords. It turns the tent into a lounge, with huge openings on the back and sides, so you can sit back and enjoy nature from the elevated vantage point.Integrated dimmable lights make it easy to read at night (just bring your favorite USB power bank, or run a cord to your vehicles power system). Internal pockets give you storage for your phone, books, snacks, etc. Most full-featured tents are heavy, but the Thule Widesky comes in at just 147lbs (claimed). Thats on par with many ultralight, barebones RTTs, yet the Widesky is generously sized for two adults with a 79 x 51 sleeping area, and roughly 49 of interior height.Full specs & dimensions are:Sleeping capacity: 2 peopleDimensions (Open): 83 x 55 x 52 inDimensions (Closed): 83 x 55 x 7.9 inSleeping footprint: 79 x 51 inPeak internal height: 46 in (43.6 with mattress)Weight: 147 lbStatic weight capacity: 660 lbMinimum bar spread: 28 inBase construction: Aluminum honeycomb structure with alu frame, base, and lid; fiber-reinforced polyamide cornersAvailable now, MSRP is $3,999.
