- BIKERUMOR.COMIntend Rover Shock, Adding a Coil Where It Seemed Missing, To Create a Coil/Air HybridThis new Intend Rover hybrid of coil and air shocks seems like the direct answer to questions mountain bikers have been asking the German suspension maker for several years. When Intend recently released their Hover Monocoque air shock update, it brought back some familiar questions. And statements. Wouldnt the piston rod break easily? and Looks like the coil is missing. This, along with others, is feedback Intend had received concerning the unconventional look of the Hover shock from day one.The latest Intend Hover Monocoque air shock. (All photos/Intend)Rather, the shock was intentionally designed that way. Our track record shows zero broken piston rods in the six years since the Intend Hover launched, they said. Despite a style that broke away from other offerings in the suspension world, adding a coil spring always seemed to be the logical next step. But, it isnt just styling and looks that have Intend putting a spring over the Hover to create this hybrid. Rather, the brand claims significant improvement with the addition of a spring for riders searching for a touch more sensitivity.Introducing the Rover, a unique air/coil hybrid shock that becomes part of Intends Blackline. The Intend Rover coil and air shock hybridRather than creating separate air and coil shocks in either category, Intend views the Rover as more of a Hover-variant that combines the advantages of an air shock with those of a coil. On the air side, you have progressivity and adjustability. On the coil side, you get a more linear, sensitive experience and the ability to run lower pressures. And both can be adjusted, essentially independantly!Intend kept the core principles of the Hover air shock with the Rover. An air spring system is incorporated, with self-balancing positive and negative chambers. The progresivity of an air shock helps prevent bottom-outs and is easily tunable.Adding a coil on the other hand, changes the shock altogether. Coil shocks are known for their supple, sensitive feel, which Intend says the Rover now delivers. This suppleness is achieved by running the shock at a much lower air pressure, effectively replacing basic spring duties with the coil. The addition of the coil lowers seal friction, increasing sensitivity, and provides a more linear experience. In effect, Intend has replaced a significant percentage of the air spring curve with the linear characteristics of a coil. The Rovers hybrid nature also makes it easily adjustable. Rather than switching between different coil springs to get the right feel, the Rover is adjusted simply by adding or releasing air.And Intend provides a custom tune for each Rover based on the riders weight and frame kinematics. But, one important note is that while the Rover ultimately looks like the Hover with a spring, it is its own unique shock. Intends says that you arent able to simply convert a Hover to a Rover, or vice versa.Rover Hybrid Shock Tech Details & OptionsSteel spring (left) / Titanium spring (right)Intend offers two spring options for the Rover: titanium or steel. Spring rates for the coils are fixed, covering a fairly vast weight range with a relatively lightweight spring. The Rover is also offered in trunnion and standard sizes and includes additional hardware to convert between them.Intend offers the Rover Ti in 20565 (trunnion) and 23065 (standard), as well as the Rover Fe (Fe is iron on the periodic table, so thats the steel spring). They also offer the Fe in 22575 (trunnion) and 25075 (standard) for the big rigs.Pricing & AvailabilityStandard (left) and trunnion (right) mountWhile this may seem like fairly limited stroke length options, Intend expands its stroke options with stroke reduction. Shock strokes can be reduced by 2.5, 5 & 7.5mm, expanding fitment possibilities.Weight: 510g (Ti 20565) / 570g (Fe 20565)Adjustments: LS compression/rebound, air pressure, 3-position lockout (Open/Gravel/Road)Shock Price: 1200 (~$1400)Coil Price: 129 (~$140)Intend-Blackline.comThe post Intend Rover Shock, Adding a Coil Where It Seemed Missing, To Create a Coil/Air Hybrid appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 313 Views
- TDAGLOBALCYCLING.COMThe Plum Ride Bicycle Tour Whats In A Name?UPDATED April 13, 2026 BY Henry Gold IN Plum Ride no comments The Plum Ride Bicycle Tour Whats In A Name?He who does not have slivovitz has no luck.Slivovitz is the best medicine. Slovak ProverbsWhats in a name, you may ask? Or how do we choose a name for a new tour? Our company is known for creating exhilarating cycling adventures in all corners of the world but it is in Europe where we have the largest number of our tours. Each one has its own path, a theme that we would like to explore. Yet, even with our tours crisscrossing the continent, one area that was largely missing was Central Europe.I was born in that region, Czechoslovakia to be exact. One day when I was alone in the office, staring at a large map of the world, I heard a little whisper coming from the wall. I stopped what I was doing and listenedHenry, how come none of TDA tours visit Berlin, Prague or Belgrade? Why have TDA not explored more of Central Europe? After all, that is where your roots are?And so it began. Everyone on the team contributed and our efforts resulted in a tour that starts on the shores of the Baltic Sea in Gdansk, Poland, the birthplace of Solidarity, the movement that initiated the fall of Soviet Empire. It ends on the shores of Aegean Sea in Thessaloniki, Greece, the countrys second largest city, well known for its rich Byzantine history.White Tower in ThessalonikiNow that we had the route, what do we name it? After all, when you travel in a country or through a region, there are many aspects to explore. There is nature, there is art, there is architecture, history, food and, of course, there is culture. When looking at the entirety of the route, there seemed to be one aspect that kept popping up.My father, who lived to be 87, had one memorable habit. Each morning, after spending an inordinate time in the bathroom cleaning himself top to bottom, would head for his liquor cabinet, pour himself a shot, preferably slivovitz, and thus start his day. Lest you think my dad was an alcoholic, in my whole life I never saw him drunk, not at home, not at weddings and not at any religious celebrations. One or two shots a day and that was enough. And, as far as I can tell, he wasnt alone in this habit.I mention the vignette about my father simply to point out that, in Central Europe, a big part of the culture is the consumption of plum brandy, sometimes known locally as Palinka or Rakia. As I hinted above, drinking slivovitz at weddings, funerals, births and other life events, is so ingrained that it has been recognized by UNESCO as part of Serbias intangible cultural heritage, reflecting its deep-rooted social practices and customs. Plum brandy or Slivovitz is present in proverbs, songs, media, movies, television shows and literature, reflecting local customs and social practices. And according to AI, and really what better source is there, Plum brandy, like other types of brandy, can offer several health benefits when consumed in moderation. It contains antioxidants that may help lower bad cholesterol, reduce inflammation, and support the immune system, making it beneficial for heart health and respiratory issues.Whats in a name you ask? Well, plum brandy is often associated with themes of friendship, longing, and the joys of life. Isnt that what TDA tours are all about?View this post on InstagramA post shared by TDA Global Cycling | Bike Tours in over 80 countries (@tdacycling)Join me, TDA Founder Henry Gold, for a Slivvitz or Two! I plan to cycle this inaugural tour in 2027. For those alumni who I have never met, I invite you to come along. If you have never done a TDA tour, come ride with me and I will share with you a little bit more about the region I once called home.RELATEDTOURPlum Ride Plum brandy has a long and illustrious history in Central and Eastern Europe, beginning as far back as the 14th century. - BIKERUMOR.COMRevel Bikes Kicks Off Experimental Concept Labs with New 32 Ti HardtailRevel Bikes is no stranger to concept bikes, but now their development process has an official name. Reves experimental bikes will now be a part of their Concept Labs, a program designed to publicly showcase the companys experimental product development work. The Golden, Colorado-based manufacturer will use the platform to share prototype builds, geometry experiments, and early-stage design concepts that may or may not reach production status.Adam Miller with one of his creationsThe company has previously developed several prototype projects, including a 3D printed thermoplastic composite downhill bike and the Ratical, a 3D printed titanium full suspension trail bike featuring a Horst-link CBF layout. We spend a lot of time in the shop dreaming up ideas, testing theories, and building things that may never see a production line, said Adam Miller, Revels founder. The program represents the companys effort to maintain ongoing communication with riders rather than working behind closed doors during development cycles. The Mega Mullet 32/29The newest program focus is Project El Jefe Grande, which consists of two experimental titanium hardtail frames designed to test 32-inch wheel configurations. The project includes an XL frame equipped with 32-inch wheels front and rear, and a size Medium Mega Mullet setup featuring a 32-inch front wheel paired with a 29-inch rear wheel. According to Mike Giese, Revels Director of Product, Revel has a unique advantage: The ability to use titanium as a concept incubator. Got a geometry idea that might be completely wrong? Build it in Ti and find out. Want to test a wheel size before committing to tooling? Build it in titanium and find out.Thats exactly what we did with 32. Weve been watching the 32 movement closely, and we got too curious to stay on the sidelines. So we built two hardtails. A size XL running 32/32, and a size medium Mega Mullet running 32 up front and 29 out back. Not because we know the answer yet, but because we think wheel configuration and frame sizing might work together in ways we havent fully explored. The right wheel combo could give a rider a better fit and handling than sizing alone ever could. Were in the testing phase. Were learning. And honestly, its a blast.Follow the development process at the link below. revelbikes.comThe post Revel Bikes Kicks Off Experimental Concept Labs with New 32 Ti Hardtail appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 323 Views
