- BIKERUMOR.COMDevinci Backtracks on High-Pivot Linkage, Adds Chainstay Flip-Chip on New SpartanToday, Devinci Cycles announces the 4th generation of their Spartan enduro bike. While the bikes intentions havent changed, some things have The most notable update is Devincis move away from the previous Spartans high-pivot suspension linkage. Devinci has also added a chainstay length adjustment chip and revised the Spartans geometry. In addition to the design tweaks, Devinci fans will notice the new Spartan does not offer a carbon frame option this one comes in aluminum only. Several weeks ago, Devinci set me up with a bike to test, so Ive been riding the Spartan GX AXS 12s since the snow melted. Be sure to check out my review article to see how it performs on-trail. In this article, well run down all the updates, features, and specs of the 4th-gen Spartan lineup.Devinci Spartan: SuspensionThe new Spartan frames are available in Optimum G04 6061-T6 Aluminum only, and they are made in Canada. Devinci is located in the Aluminum Valley of Quebec, Canada, an area renowned for aluminum production, innovation, and expertise. The brand has always appreciated aluminums strength-to-weight ratio, and the Spartans press release states aluminum delivers the strength, durability, and consistency riders expect from a true long-travel mountain bike. The Spartan frame offers 165 mm of rear travel, controlled by Devincis Split Pivot suspension linkage. To keep things moving smoothly, the suspension pivots feature Enduro MAX double-lip sealed bearings, with double-row bearings in the main pivot, central linkage, and seatstay/linkage junction for added rigidity and durability. This linkage is progressive enough to work well with coil shocks, and the rocker requires no spacers with trunnion mount rear shocks. So why did Devinci stray from the previous Spartans high-pivot linkage? Well, I asked, and they explained that the three main factors in this decision were weight, pedalling efficiency, and simplicity. The extra pieces required for a high-pivot linkage add weight to a bike, and with no carbon model, Devinci didnt want to let the aluminum Spartan get too heavy. As for pedalling prowess, the Spartan is built to be pedalled uphill: Forgoing the high-pivot linkage not only saves some weight, it also eliminates the drivetrain drag inherent in high-pivot configurations. Finally, following feedback from riders and shops, Devinci felt customers would appreciate the relative simplicity and ease of maintenance the traditional linkage offers versus the more complex high-pivot.Up front, all Spartan models come stocked with 170mm forks. In fact, the top-end GX AXS 12s model comes with a new 2027 fork (which will be announced today)!Frame Features:All builds of the new Spartan come with MX wheels, but the frame is compatible with a 29 rear. A Geo-Saver flip-chip maintains Devincis intended geometry with either rear wheel size. The new chainstay length adjustment flip-chip offers +/- 7mm Short or Long options, so you can favour nimbler handling or maximized stability. The flip-chip does affect several other geometry figures; more details are in the geometry section below.Devinci gave the new Spartans their SHED in-frame storage system, and a zippered tool bag is included with each bike. There is a water bottle mount on the SHED storage door, and all frame sizes can fit a 650ml water bottle or larger.Cable routing is internal and uses clean, straight-entry ports at the headtube to prevent cable rub and rattling. Frame protection includes a lower down tube guard, a chainstay protector, and an optional shuttle guard that comes with each bike.Fitments:The new Spartan features a Boost 148mm rear axle, UDH compatible dropouts, and the frame provides tire clearance for 27.52.6 or 292.5 treads. Devinci sticks with the tried-and-true threaded BSA73 BB shell. The Spartan offers chainring clearance up to 34t, and includes a 3-bolt ISCG mount for chain guides/bash guards. The Spartan frame accepts 31.6mm seat posts, and stock dropper post travel numbers are 150mm (S), 180mm (M), 200mm (L), and 220mm (XL).Geometry:The new Spartans geometry has been revised to provide a higher stack height and a steeper seat mast. With the two flip-chips, there are four possible geo configurations for the frame; Realistically thats two settings (Short/Long) for each rear wheel size.Moving from Short to Long chainstay settings slackens out the head and seat tube angles by 0.5, so if you want the slacker head tube angle, you have to use the Long position. Moving into a long position also reduces the frames reach by 5mm, drops the BB by 7mm, lowers standover height by 5mm, and increases stack height by 4 mm.In addition to the adjustability, Devinci gives the new Spartan two different chainstays across the four frame sizes. Small and medium frames get shorter chainstays (440-450mm depending on rear wheel size and chip position), while large and XLs get longer stays (450-460mm).Unlike Devincis trail-oriented Troy, the new Spartan does not offer Hi/Lo geometry options for a 29 rear wheel. I inquired about this, and Devinci explained that including a second position with a full 29 setup would result in odd frame geometry they do not recommend.Model Lineup:The 4th generation Spartan will be available in three complete builds, plus as a frameset. Devinci isnt offering any super high-end specs, so the top-end GX AXS-equipped model remains in a pretty accessible mid-price range.Spartan GX AXS 12s $5999The Spartan GX AXS 12s comes in Deep Olive/Gloss.Spartan Eagle 90 12s $4799The Spartan Eagle 90 12s comes in a Greige/Gloss colorway.Spartan Deore 12s $3899The Deore 12s model also comes in Greige/Gloss.Spartan Frameset $2399The Spartan frameset includes a RockShox Vivid Ultimate rear shock, a seat clamp and a headset. It is available in the Greige/Gloss colorway. Weight is listed at 10.32 lbs (size medium).*Photos c. - BIKERUMOR.COMWolf Tooth Components Flexes Engineering & Design Muscle w/ Premium Mark Zero Product LineEver since they launched their very first chainring, Wolf Tooth Components has been on a mission making high-quality parts in Minnesota that are extremely durable while remaining accessible to the majority of consumers. That ethos continues today, just with a much wider product catalog. However, Wolf Tooth is a point where they can devote some of that engineering and design muscle to a passion project of sorts. A project without the restrictions of cost or machining time. A project called Mark Zero. According to Wolf Tooth, This collection is what happens when our engineers can work on items in small batches. Different rules exist when you only need to make 50 of something instead of 500 of something. Its a green light to spend extra time refining a design, exploring new production methods, experimenting with new materials, tinkering with construction, and challenging everything weve learned about cycling component engineering. As a result, Wolf Tooth Components has a new halo tier that is kicking off with six new products. MK will include the ALT XC and DEL gravel pedals, centerlock rotor lockrings, a seatpost clamp, IS headsets with stem cap, and threaded bottom brackets. All of these will be offered in the MK signature Shadow Gray finish, and sold in small batches only. Actual WeightsAll of the MK products have extra attention paid to their weight and the machining process, and as a result, should be the lightest expression of that component from WTC. We have some of the new products on the way and will add actual weights as soon as they arrive. ALT XC & DEL Gravel MK PedalsThe MK pedal offerings include two SPD-compatible models: the ALT XC, weighing 246 grams at $364.95, and the DEL Gravel at 174 grams for the same price. Both pedals measure 14.5mm thick and feature titanium axles with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, PVD-coated titanium hardware, and user-adjustable Q-factors ranging from 51-59mm. The DEL model offers a larger platform area of 559mm compared to the ALT XCs 413mm, but is single sided where the XC is dual-sided. Both feature adjustable Q-factor by moving the internal spacers. MK Centerlock Rotor LockringsThe MK centerlock rotor lockrings arent quite as light as the incredible titanium lockrings from Ogle Component Design, but theyre far less expensive, dont require a special tool (use a cassette tool and 44-16 BB tool), and are within 1-2g in claimed weight. The lockrings are available in internal and external spline variants, each priced at $24.95 each and weighing 6.2g and 6.8g, respectively. These are a complete redesign of the original Wolf Tooth Centerlock Rotor Lockring, with special consultation with Team Visma Lease A Bike, which results in a 27% weight reduction for the internal lockring, and 35% reduction for the external. The 7075-T6 aluminum lockrings include a stainless steel shim washer and have a maximum torque value of 40Nm. MK Seatpost ClampWTC already set the bar pretty high for their seatpost clamp, so the MK version spends more time in the CNC machine for weight reduction and adds titanium hardware. The seatpost clamps are available in 30mm, 32mm, and 35mm sizes for $44.95 and weigh between 15.4-16.3 grams, and feature titanium bolts with PVD coating. MK IS Headset with Ultralight Low Profile Stem CapOutside of the bearings, there isnt much to an IS headset, so Wolf Tooth focused on creating the shortest possible stack height and lightest weight. The integrated headset system starts at $94.95 (upper only) with a 4mm stack height and includes Enduro stainless steel bearings. The 29g or 30g (IS41 or IS42) weight is said to be 44% less than a standard WTC headset with the same best-in-class sealing & performance. The headset can be combined with their MK ultralight low-profile stem cap, which includes a custom hollow 7075 aluminum bolt to shave every last gram with a 4.3g claimed weight. MK BSA Bottom BracketsThe collection rounds out with MK BSA bottom brackets for 24mm, 29mm DUB, and 30mm spindle cranksets, priced at $309.95. These units incorporate ceramic bearings with custom low-drag sealing systems and weigh between 76-82 grams, depending on spindle compatibility. All MK components include provisions for user serviceability through Wolf Tooths Right to Repair program.wolftoothcomponents.comThe post Wolf Tooth Components Flexes Engineering & Design Muscle w/ Premium Mark Zero Product Line appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 318 Ansichten
- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMMondraker's new eMTB has the world's most important ebike motor and a dream build for less money thank you'd thinkMondrakers new Zendit is a full-power eMTB with 165mm of travel, a carbon frame and a DJI Avinox motor. The bike hits several important selling points, with impressive spec and value for money on all three models in the range. The base-spec Zendit RR has Fox Factory suspension and AXS electronic shifting for 7,399. Both the middle-spec RRS (9,299) and top-spec XR (10,999) include a Fox Podium upside-down fork, which itself retails for 2,200. For comparison, Forbiddens shorter-travel Druid E, with an Avinox motor, begins at 7,599 with a more basic fork and mechanical transmission. Read more: The DJI Avinox is the best eMTB motor Ive ever used, but not because its so powerful Desirable Avinox motor All three Zendit models use the same Avinox motor and 800Wh battery. Mondraker Each of the three models uses the same DJI Avinox motor. It's paired with a non-removable 800Wh battery and there is no option for a range extender. When Avinox released its motor in 2024, it ruffled a few feathers, offering more power than its competitors and smooth operation thanks to the 22-point pickup on the sensor ring. It created serious demand among consumers. In Alex Evans' head-to-head motor test, when pitted against the Bosch Performance CX Line Race motor, it showed its huge power but also high resistance through the cranks when the battery was finally out of juice. Mid-travel enduro eMTB Mondraker's Zendit eMTB has 165mm of travel and a 170mm-travel fork. Mondraker The 165mm-travel Zendit fits into Mondrakers range between the Crafty, which has 150mm travel, and the Level with 170mm. The Zendit comes with a 170mm-travel fork (the Level has a 180mm fork). The Zendit uses the most modern iteration of Mondrakers patented Zero suspension system, which sees the shock canted forward at a more horizontal angle that Mondraker says improves the suspension's small-bump response. The carbon frame is designed to be as light as possible, with Mondraker claiming it's the lightest eMTB frame it has made weighing in at 3,000g in the medium size (without motor and battery). Mixed wheel-size setup but 29in-compatible The Zendit has a flip chip to swap between the supplied 27.5in rear wheel and a 29in rear wheel. Mondraker All Zendit models will ship to customers with a mixed wheel-size setup (29in front and 27.5in rear), but they include a flip chip on the shock link to mutate the bike into a full 29er. Mondraker tells us the bottom-bracket height, angles and reach remain unchanged when using the flip chip and the larger rear wheel. Geometry and sizing There are five frame sizes on offer and 5mm longer chainstays on the two largest sizes. Mondraker There are five sizes on offer: S, M, M/L, L and XL. Interestingly, the Zendit features proportionally sized chainstay measurement, which is longer on the larger sizes. Manufacturers do this in attempt to keep the geometry proportional and the bike feeling the same regardless of size. The Large and XL sizes feature a 5mm longer 455mm chainstay measurement than the Small and Medium bikes. The Zendit is long, with a reach of 480mm on the M/L size, 500mm on the large and 520mm on the XL. There is a two-position flip chip on the lower shock mount, which changes the head angle from 63.5 degrees to 63.15 degrees and the BB height from 345mm to 340mm. Build options The Zendit RRS is the mid-spec model, but still includes a Fox Podium Factory fork and SRAM Eagle AXS transmission. Mondraker There are three different models of Zendit on offer, each with their own colour, but each bike is also available in Black if you prefer a more stealthy option. The top-spec Zendit XR has a Fox Podium Factory fork, Factory Float X2 shock, e*thirteen Helix Race Carbon cranks, RockShox Reverb AXS dropper, SRAM Maven Ultimate brakes and DT Swiss carbon wheels. The Zendit XR colour is a Blue Fade. The mid-spec Zendit RRS comes in Green. It also includes a Fox Podium Factory fork, along with Fox Factory Float X shock, SRAM Maven Silver brakes, DT Swiss wheels, Maxxis Assegai and Minion 3C tyres, and a SRAM X0 Eagle AXS Transmission derailleur. The most affordable Zendit is the RR, which looks like an excellent value proposition with a Fox Factory 38 fork and Factory Float X shock at the rear, along with SRAM Maven Base brakes, DT Swiss wheels, Maxxis Assegai and Minion 3C tyres, and SRAM GX Eagle AXS Transmission gearing. The RR comes in Saturn (a sandy or champagne brown) or Black. All the models have tiny 155mm cranks. New Mondraker Zendit pricing Each model is available in its own colourway or black. - GRANFONDO-CYCLING.COMSpecializeds New Roval Terra Aero CLX and Terra CLX III Gravel Wheels on ReviewRoval are bringing speed to the dirt paths. With the Terra Aero, Specialized have presented their first consistently aero-optimised gravel wheelset. But that is not all as the proven Terra CLX is entering its third generation, aiming to shine through minimal weight and improved handling. We have been out on our test track to see how these new additions perform.Roval Terra Aero CLX | 1,315 g (incl. tubeless rim tape & SRAM freehub) 3,498 | Manufacturers WebsiteGravel racing is no longer a niche phenomenon, as we already noted in our last race gravel bike group test. The increasing professionalisation of this segment means that races are getting faster and faster, which makes aerodynamics massively important off-road too. After Roval set new standards on the road with the Rapide CLX III last year, these findings are now flowing directly into the gravel sector. Its taken Specialized a while to release an aerodynamically optimised gravel performance wheelset. Now its here, and it perfectly reflects the transformation we experienced in road racing a decade ago. Specialized are promising nothing less than the fastest gravel wheel lineup ever built a bold claim backed by plenty of marketing terminology.Behind names like Chopped Aero Speed Shape and FlatStop-Bead lies a particularly sophisticated construction designed specifically for the demands of gravel bikes. Because wider tires, lower speeds and tougher wind conditions require specific aerodynamics, the system wasnt just trimmed for pure air resistance in the lab. Instead, the focus was on how it functions with wider gravel tyres at various inflow angles. Were excited to see if we might see an aero-optimised successor to the ageing Specialized Crux later this year. The front rim of the Terra Aero CLX is 50 mm deep and features a striking, blunt-flat shape.Specialized are banking on radical aero-shaping to offer maximum efficiency, even in fast-paced gravel races.Specialized are introducing two new specialists for the gravel segment: the Terra CLX III as the lightweight successor to the Terra range with a shallow 27 mm rim, and the completely new Terra Aero CLX with a 50 mm rim depth at the front and 45 mm at the rear. While the Terra Aero CLX is designed to deliver road-level aerodynamics to the front wheel with its blunt, flattened profile and weighs 1,315 g on our scales, the Terra CLX III drops the weight to just 1,050 g. Both wheelsets have been consistently designed as a system consisting of wheel and tire an approach found in almost all modern performance wheels.Roval Terra CLX III | 1,050 g (incl. tubeless tape & SRAM freehub) | 3,198Both new models use carbon spokes and feature an internal width that has grown from 25 mm to 27 mm . The in-house 45 mm Pathfinder TLR tires measure a full 44 mm wide on these rims. Inspired by the Rapide CLX III, both wheels also feature a wider rim flange. This supports the tire better and protects the casing more effectively against pinch flats and snakebites during hard impacts. Ultimately, Specialized arent just concerned with pure tempo, but with the combination of speed, improved puncture protection and tuned compliance. You can find out whether this overall package is reflected in the riding experience in our review. The Terra CLX III features a shallow 27 mm rim with an internal width that has grown to 27 mm.Both wheelsets use striking carbon spokes to ensure direct power transfer and contribute significantly to the low weight. On Review: What Are the New Roval Terra Aero CLX and Terra CLX III Actually Capable of?Visually, the shallow, almost blunt rim shape is polarising. In practice, the wide rim flanges look less chunky than expected, though the visible spoke nipples slightly mar the otherwise very clean look. While riding, the Terra Aero CLX is pleasantly nimble without feeling twitchy. Its reassuringly stable on the gravel track, reacts precisely to direction changes, and conveys a high level of efficiency. However, in a direct comparison with the Terra CLX III, it lacks a touch of that explosive snap when accelerating and the razor-sharp directness in handling. This is exactly where the Terra CLX III comes in: its lighter, more playful and more immediate. It accelerates more willingly, reacts much more directly to steering inputs and feels more alive overall. Both wheelsets impress with smooth rolling characteristics. Combined with the 45 mm wide Pathfinder TLR tire, they roll along surprisingly smoothly, and the Terra Aero CLX in particular offers more comfort than youd expect from an aero wheelset with carbon spokes.Who Are the New Roval Wheels For?The new Roval wheels are clearly aimed at racers and fit seamlessly into Specializeds ecosystem, where everything is designed as a system including the bike, tires and wheels. With the Terra Aero CLX, theres finally a dedicated aero gravel wheelset that hasnt just been adapted from the road, but was specifically developed for the demands of gravel. The Terra Aero CLX is aimed at anyone who wants to turn every watt into speed in fast gravel races. It plays to its strengths on long straight sections and at high average speeds with constant pressure on the pedals. By contrast, the Terra CLX III truly comes into its own on mountainous, technical, and playful terrain. It stands out with nimble handling, sharp acceleration, and a more responsive ride feelmaking it an ideal choice for demanding race courses or a fast, everyday setup for riders who want maximum versatility. Conclusions about the New Roval Terra Aero CLX and Terra CLX IIIBoth the Roval Terra Aero CLX and the Terra CLX III are impressive in our review and set different priorities. The Aero CLX scores with high efficiency and strong rolling performance, while the CLX III impressed us with its lively acceleration and noticeably more agile nature. The carbon spokes contribute to direct power transfer on both models. In terms of price, both are clearly in the high-end segment which is typical for Roval. With the Terra Aero CLX, Specialized are showing very clearly where the journey is heading. Were excited to see if the American manufacturer have more aero tricks up their sleeves this year.TopsModern designLively riding characteristicsVery smooth rolling performanceFlopsVisible spoke nipples slightly disturb the otherwise clean lookFind out more on specialized.com/rovalDer Beitrag Specializeds New Roval Terra Aero CLX and Terra CLX III Gravel Wheels on Review erschien zuerst auf GRAN FONDO Cycling Magazine.0 Kommentare 0 Anteile 508 Ansichten
