Look expands its gravel pedal range with single-sided race and hybrid adventure pedals
CyclistLook expands its gravel pedal range with single-sided race and hybrid adventure pedalsLook has launched two new SPD-compatible pedal families for the gravel market, broadening its range to meet the needs of the full spectrum of gravel riding styles. For gravel racers, the X-One G pedal offers low weight and a wide platform in a single-sided SPD-compatible pedal design. Theres a titanium axle option that is similar in weight to the Keo 2 Max road pedal and offers a large contact surface. For adventure riders, the X-Venture pedal offers a pedal with one SPD binding and a flat opposite side in a pedal with a large platform. There are aluminium and composite body options. The new pedals complement the existing four modelX-Track pedal range, which remains unchanged and runs from the 225g a pedal X-Track to the X-Track Carbon Ti which weighs 145g per pedal. The one-sided SPD gives me the light, road-pedal feel I want, with the easy release of an MTB pedal.Brian Lewis, SolMtnStudiosThe single-sided pedal is made from recycled aluminium and has a large contact surface: 650mm2 versus 515mm2 for the dual-sided X-Track pedals. Looks pedal product manager Alexandre Lavaud says that the design avoids rocking of the foot due to the 67mm wide platform. The pedal platform area is also larger than the Keo 2 Max road pedals 500mm2. With a titanium axle, the X-One G is lighter than the Keo 2 Max Carbon as well, at 120g versus 125g.The CroMo steel axle X-One G pedal has a 145g claimed weight, which is the same as the highest spec titanium axle X-Track dual sided gravel/XC pedal. The X-One G ports over the spindle, bearings and seals from the X-Track range and has an adjustable retainer with a similar release strength. Theres 6 float and a 13 release angle.Brian Lewis, SolMtnStudiosThe stack height is also the same as the X-Track: 10.7mm for the pedal and 16.8mm for the pedal-plus-cleat stack, while the Q-Factor of 53mm is identical. Lavaud points out that this allows a rider to swap between X-One G and X-Track pedals without any effect on ride position. As yet, theres no word on a power meter pedal for the X-One G to complement the double-sided X-Track Power. The X-One G with a titanium axle is priced at 275 / $365 / 299, with a steel axle at 165 / $225 / 179.X-Venture adventure pedalHugo Schleicher, @woujowThe X-Venture pedal is designed for bikepackers, tourers and urban riders and replaces the older Trekking pedals. Its hybrid design with a flat and SPD side allows you to clip in or ride unclipped or in non-SPD shoes. The pedal has a large contact area with the shoe, thanks to the large cage, which is 77mm wide and has moulded-in retention pins. Look delivers the pedals with its X-Easy Cleats, which offer 30% easier clip-in than its standard cleats and multidirectional release, with 6 of float, so the pedals are easier to engage and disengage on tricky terrain. The aluminium bodied X-Venture+ pedal weighs 190g per pedal and is priced at 75 / $99 / 75. The composite body X-Venture pedal, which incorporates reflectors, weighs 200g per pedal and is priced at 45 / $60 / 50.Look will also sell pedal rebuild kits and bearing kits, which are compatible with all three gravel pedal styles.Look is not the only brand to offer a gravel/XC pedal range to cater for the broadening range of gravel riding styles. At the tail-end of 2025, Wolf Tooth launched the Ctrl, Alt and Del pedals, which, as with Looks expanded range, include a single-sided race pedal, alongside double-sided pedals with larger and smaller platform areas. The post Look expands its gravel pedal range with single-sided race and hybrid adventure pedals appeared first on Cyclist.

Milano-Torino 2026 preview: Route, favourites, how to watch and start list
CyclistMilano-Torino 2026 preview: Route, favourites, how to watch and start listWith Milan-San Remo in the crosshairs, the pro peloton continues their Italian warm-up with the 150-year-old Milano-Torino. Set to be held on Wednesday 18th March 2026, the 106th edition of Milano-Torino will offer an early chance for the climbers to taste Spring Classics glory.First held in 1876, Milano-Torino is the oldest-running bike race in the world. Due to its OAP status on the pro calendar, it has changed shape over the decades. The race has been on several hiatuses, and has been held in both spring and autumn months. The route has also changed shape, but has returned to its iconic Superga finish after a brief stint as a sprinters Classic in the early 2020s.Last year, Isaac del Toro took the victory on the races long-awaited return to the Superga climb. This would go down as the Mexicans first one-day win of 2025, kickstarting a season in which he would take a further seven one-day victories in Italy. Nonetheless, Del Toro isnt set to be here to defend his title, but Tom Pidcock, Richard Carapaz and Giulio Pellizzari will start as favourites for the oldest title in pro cycling. The claim to Milan, however, is held by the start town of Rho, which sits in the citys western suburbs. Most of the profile is pan flat as the riders cut through the vast Po Valley, where the mountains are few and far between. Theres a small rise after 100km in the saddle, but the real tests arrive once the peloton crosses into Turin. In the Piedmontese capital, the riders will enter an 18.9km-long circuit, which is negotiated on two occasions in the final 40km. The centrepiece of this circuit is the iconic Superga climb (4.9km at 9.0%). This peak has been a staple of Milano-Torino and Giro dItalia history, having featured in almost 100 pro races, with its hilltop citadel and mythical status in Torinese history. The race will finish with the second ascent of Superga. The 5km climb is a real stinger, covering 449m of elevation during its short length. Gradients ramp up to 20% at points, but the 9% will be enough to weed out the field.Milano-Torino 2026 favouritesXavier PereyronWith reigning champion Isaac del Toro expected to miss Milano-Torino, the crown is up for grabs.Tom Pidcock has been on steady form in 2026, but will be fuelled by frustration after a disappointing Strade Bianche a week and a half ago. The British rider hasnt raced this Classic before, but the steep nature of the final climb should suit his explosiveness. As he prepares for some more mountainous goals on the near horizon, a win here would be much appreciated.Giulio Pellizzari has been in top form since the season got underway in January. His podium finish at Tirreno-Adriatico serves as a reminder of that, as the Italian comes into Milano-Torino with good legs. He is a strong climber, perhaps more so than Pidcock, and he should have strong support from his Red Bull teammates one of whom will be 19-year-old Lorenzo Finn.Jan Christen will be UAE Team Emirates XRGs best shot at defending this title. The Swiss rider has ridden to some impressive results this year, even if his tactics have been questionable at times.Cyclistsratings: Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5), Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe): Jan Christen (UAE Team Emirates XRG), Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost): Cian Uijtdebroeks (Movistar), Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana): Markel Beloki (EF Education-EasyPost) : Simon Carr (Cofidis)NOTE: The startlist is still being finalised. New Fizik Lyra shoes give your toes more room to breathe and complement the latest bike geometry
Fizik has launched the Lyra, a new mid-range road cycling shoe designed to complement the latest bike geometry and rider-position trends. Drawing on the brand's latest flagship Vega road shoe design, the Lyra's rounded toe box is said to enable more natural toe splay and reduce pressure, while the rearward cleat positioning accommodates the latest forward-leaning ride positions. In theory, the new shape should help those riders who struggle with toe-crush issues and forefoot pressure points, while the cleat position enables pressure to be distributed more easily through the mid-foot. The new Lyra is priced at 229.99 / $249.99 / 249. Read more: Best cycling shoes 2026 18 top-rated road cycling shoes for every budget A new shape for modern riding positions Fizik says the toe box has been made wider to enable more natural toe splay. Road Bike Connection Spring - Mirror Media According to Fizik, changes in bike geometry and rider positioning in recent years have influenced how cyclists interact with their bikes particularly at the shoes. Given this, the Lyras last design is shaped to better support modern pedalling positions, which see riders pitched more steeply over the bottom bracket. In general, riding in this position opens the hip angle, which is said to confer a benefit in pedalling efficiency, and therefore power output. Fizik Lyra key specs R4 fibre composite outsole (stiffness index 8) Dual Boa dials Engineered mesh upper with PU-laminated reinforcement Claimed weight: 259g (unknown size) Prices: 229.99 / $249.99 / 249 A wider, rounder forefoot and a new low-drop platform are intended to reduce pressure across the front of the foot while maintaining support. Fizik says this updated shape reflects a broader shift across its latest shoes toward wider toe boxes, rounder forefoot profiles and lower-drop designs. Alex Locatelli, Fiziks brand manager, also explains that the Lyra makes it easier to fit custom insoles: Our stock insole shape is flatter than before, but we see lots of riders adapting their insole support to suit their specific needs so the extra volume you get inside the shoe creates more space for custom insoles. The sole features fixed cleat bolt holes, but laid back around 7-10mm compared to previous Fizik shoes. Road Bike Connection Spring - Mirror Media The outsole design features fixed cleat holes, but these are laid 7-10mm further back than Fiziks previous-generation shoes. Locatelli says the Vega offers a more extreme rearward cleat position thanks to its slidable bolt holes, but the Lyra should accommodate the vast majority of riders modifying their cleat position around their bike fit. Read more: Cleat position explained how to set up & replace cycling cleats Stiff sole, breathable upper The sole features a flattened, lower profile, which is claimed to offer more space for custom insoles that might feature greater arch support (and therefore take up redundant space in the shoe). Road Bike Connection Spring - Mirror Media The Lyra is built around an R4 fibre composite outsole, which Fizik says delivers an 8/10 rating on its internal stiffness index. This places it between Fiziks stiffest R1 carbon outsole, and the more compliant outsoles featured on the Vento Omna and Tempo Powerstrap R5. Notably, the Tempo Overcurve R4 is rated at 7/10 on its index, which suggests the new R4 sole has been made marginally stiffer to balance out the comfort offered by the new shape. The R4-spec sole is made of a fibre composite, which is claimed to be more comfortable than the brand's stiffest R1 carbon sole. Road Bike Connection Spring - Mirror Media An engineered mesh upper provides ventilation, with additional airflow channels designed to keep your feet cool during harder efforts. This is reinforced with PU-laminated zones around the closure and midfoot, lending structure and support while maintaining breathability, according to Fizik. The shoes are tightened by two Boa Li2 dials, which Fizik says complements the comfort aspirations by offering independent adjustment across the forefoot and midfoot, while enabling incremental tightening and loosening, and easy on-the-fly adjustment. In order to help riders achieve the best fit possible, the Lyra is available in sizes EU36-48, with half sizes offered from EU37-47.

    6 talking points from Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico
Cyclist6 talking points from Paris-Nice and Tirreno-AdriaticoAnd breathe. One of cyclings most hectic weeks is now in the rearview mirror, with concurrent chaos of Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico giving us early previews of potential Grand Tour battles to come.Jonas Vingegaard topped the standings at Paris-Nice in dominant fashion while Isaac del Toro continued his ascent to cyclings top tier with victory at Tirreno-Adriatico. Theres plenty to talk about, here are our six main takeaways from the two races.Paris-Nice1st: Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), 25hr 25min 11sec2nd: Dani Martnez (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), +4min 23sec3rd: Georg Steinhauser (EF Education-EasyPost), +6min 07secJonas Vingegaard is on topA.S.O./Billy CeustersDespite his early season being sligghtly hampered by an illness and a very public training crash, Jonas Vingegaard showed hes still a rider to be feared after a dominating display in his first stage race of the year. He claimed back-to-back stage victories, going clear from a group of three on the final climb of Stage 4 after a crazy weather-dominated stage decimated the field, and attacking solo from 20km to go on Stage 5, to secure his first Paris-Nice title. His closest competitor overall would be Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohes Dani Martnez, who finished over four minutes down, but benefited the most from the chaos on Stage 4, with his team putting the pressure on with only Vingegaard capable of sticking with him. Thats despite going into his teammates back wheel and crashing on the final stage, leaving him in quite some pain after the finish line. Its shaping up well for the Dane as he heads towards his debut at the Giro dItalia, where he could become the latest man to win all three Grand Tours.Decathlon-CMA CGM looked good, then not so good (but actually not that bad) in the TTTA.S.O./Billy CeustersDecathlon-CMA CGM have really stepped things up this year, with sprint wins, several strong GC performances and the development of Paul Seixas. It looked like they were on for a great TT performance too in the team time-trial on Stage 3. That was until GC leader Nicolas Prodhomme dropped on a slight climb and Dan Hoole was left to go solo in search of the yellow jersey.Thankfully the Paris-Nice time-trial rules dictate that its the first rider over the line that sets the teams time, so actually Decathlon finished third on the day behind Ineos Grenadiers and Lidl-Trek not that bad. However it was a very strong performance by the squad that couldve won the stage and set Prodhomme off well in the GC had hed not dropped off. Hoole looked very strong before he had to leave the race after breaking his pinky in a crash the following day.Juan Ayuso avoids injuryA.S.O./Billy CeustersLidl-Treks Juan Ayuso arrived at Paris-Nice having won the Volta ao Algarve and was looking to do battle with Vingegaard. He claimed some important bonus seconds on the flattest stage of the race, and jumped into the lead after the team-time trial. However as Red Bull lit up the race in the rain and wind on Stage 4, Ayuso crashed hard. He tried to get back on the bike but was in too much pain to ride, instead having to lie down at the side of the road. Fortunately, scans later that evening would show no serious injuries and that the 23-year-old avoided fractures. His next race is scheduled to be Itzulia Basque Country, recovery permitting.Other notable points:EF Education-EasyPost notch first win of seasonFollowing Luke Lampertis sprint win on the opening day, Picnic-PostNL is now the only mens WorldTour squad to not have a victory yet in 2026.Valentin Paret-Peintre heads to the foreThe Soudal-QuickStep rider was enjoying his freedom at Paris-Nice. He finished second to Vingegaard on Stage 5 as well as in the mountains classification, and ended as best-placed finisher for his team in 12th overall. Del Toro led the race after finished second behind Mathieu van der Poel on the punchy finish to Stage 2, while Pellizzari moved into second after crossing the line just behind him.Stage 4 that shook things up a bit. The 213km day saw a group of big names contesting the finishing sprint after a day of climbing. Van der Poel again prevailed with relative ease in the sprint but it was Pellizzari finishing second this time, nabbing important bonus seconds while Del Toro crossed the line in tenth place relinquishing the jersey to the Italian. That would only be for one day as it turned out though. Del Toro rode away from the favourites on the final climb on Stage 5, finishing second to the last man standing from the breakaway, EFs Michael Valgren (a fantastic story in itself). The time gap to Pellizzari was half a minute, and combined with bonus seconds, meant he jumped back into the lead by a comfortable margin.Visma-Lease a Bikes Matteo Jorgenson would grab some important bonus seconds on the last day to leapfrog Pellizzari in the standings by just two seconds. But while Pellizzari was knocked down one spot, the scenes of him riding around his birthplace of San Severino Marche to start Stage 6 and finishing in his hometown of Camerino were something to behold, scores of spectators cheering for him with his name scrawled repeatedly in the road. Del Toro won the day and admitted to some mixed feelings to TNT Sports after beating his friend in his hometown.Del Toro and Pellizzari have been racing each other for a few years now, taking part in many of the same U23 races as they were coming up even finishing first and second at the Tour de lAvenir in 2023. Post-stage, Romo allegedly grabbed Matteo Jorgenson by the neck at the Visma-Lease a Bike team bus, upset by a move from Jorgenson in the race that was not captured by the motorbike cameras.According toHet Laatste Nieuws, after being threatened by Romo, who had to be stopped by DS Max Sciandri, Jorgenson shouted adios as he got back into the bus.How very Chris Froome and Vincenzo Nibali circa summer 2015.Whats going on with Wout van Aert?Visma-Lease a BikeOver the past two seasons, Wout van Aert hasnt been at his best. Ever since his crash at the Vuelta a Espaa in 2024, the Belgian who signed a lifetime deal with Visma-Lease a Bike has felt like a shadow of his former self. I say almost, because that Tour de France Montmartre attack was quite the spectacle.Van Aert has not won a Monument since 2020 or any Classic since 2024. His 2026 season was delayed after fracturing his ankle in a cyclocross race, so Tirreno-Adriatico marked his first stage race of 2026. Teammate Jorgenson did a lot of work for the leading group on Stage 5, which was to be decided by a reduced group. Visma wouldve been licking their lips for the sprint with Van Aert in the group, however he could only cross the line in fifth, swamped by Van der Poel and Pellizzari as well as Tobias Halland Johannessen from Uno X Mobility and XDS-Astanas Clment Champoussin. He tried to a late break for it the following day too but couldnt go clear. Individual success might be lacking, but his strong leadout in setting up Jorgenson for the intermediate sprint on Stage 7 boosted his teammate up the rankings into second. His next race will be Milan-San Remo. Can he turn things around at the one Monument hes previously won?Other notable points:Filippo Ganna is king of the Tirreno-Adriatico prologueThe Italian has won the Tirreno opener in 2022, 2023, 2025 and now 2026 after beating teammate Thymen Arensman over 11.5km, only defeated in 2024 by Juan Ayuso by just one second. The relentless Julian AlaphilippeIts always good seeing Julian Alaphilippe stick his head out at the front of a cycling race. New Fizik Lyra Road Shoes Gets Wider Toe Box, Lower Drop for Modern Fit
Like almost every other part of the road bike industry, cycling footwear is changing. Attitudes towards fit and cleat placement are changing, and as a result, brands like Fizik are taking notice. As a result, Fizki has released the Lyra, a new road shoe designed to accommodate the changing trends in footwear. Specifically, the shoe features a wider, rounder forefoot and lower-drop profile compared to traditional cycling shoes not zero drop, but said to be 6mm, which is less than others. Brand Manager Alex Locatelli explained the design reflects how modern riders pedal, with an expanded toe box delivering a more natural fit for comfort and efficiency. Thats especially important when you consider that the Lyra fills a gap in the Fizik product line as a $250 shoe. At this level, riders still want performance, but theyre less likely to be willing to sacrifice comfort to get it. The Lyra is the latest Fizik shoe to get this fit treatment, but not the first: Fizik has progressively updated its shoe lasts across recent models, gradually moving toward wider toe boxes and rounder forefoot profiles along with rounder cross sections at the arch.Construction-wise, the Lyra incorporates an R4 fiber composite outsole with a stiffness index of 8 for power transfer, weighing 259 grams per shoe. The engineered mesh upper includes strategically placed polyurethane-laminated and ventilated zones around the closure system and medial area for structure and support.Fit relies on a Dual BOA Li2 dial system, allowing independent adjustment at the instep and midfoot areas. The updated outsole will allow for more rearward cleat positioning, a setup gaining popularity for pedaling stability and efficiency during longer efforts. The Lyra retails for $249.99 (or 249/229.99) and is available in whole sizes 36-48, with half sizes from 37-47. Its worth noting that when I tried it on, the fit was at least a 1/2 size bigger than my typical size in Shimano shoes (I needed to size down 1/2 size on the Fizik). I havent tried other Fizik road shoes recently, so I cant say whether the fit is typical with other Fizik shoes, though. Three colorway options include Coal-Black/Black, White/White, and a seasonal option, in this case, its a Lavender/Mint-Green.
