- BIKERUMOR.COMGiro Introduces Imperial AS: Race-Level Road Shoe Built for All ConditionsWhen the weather turns, most riders start making compromises, especially with footwear. Youll see them at the car, cramming chemical warmers in toe boxes, taping ventilation panels, and passing around the embro. Giro is looking to close the gap on race-day footwear and winter training shoes. Their answer is the new Giro Imperial AS, a shoe built to deliver top-tier road performance without backing off when conditions get rough.(All Photos/Giro)At a glance, the Imperial AS sits alongside the brands flagship offerings, sharing the same forged carbon outsole platform as the Imperial II and Empire SLX II. That means the stiffness, power transfer, and overall feel underfoot remain consistent with Giros highest-end race shoes. The difference comes up top, where the AS version is tuned specifically for colder, wetter riding think spring.A Weather-Ready Upper Without the BulkThe biggest change is the upper. Giro uses a thermo-bonded two-layer construction, combining a warp-knit mesh with a thin 0.25mm TPU skin. Its a subtle shift, but an important one that will keep feet warmer for longer. The mesh keeps things breathable, while the TPU layer adds structure and a level of weather resistance greater than that of a traditional race shoe. Its not trying to turn the Imperial AS into a winter boot; its still very much a performance road shoe. However, the new Imperial AS is clearly built to handle early-season training rides, damp roads, and unpredictable shoulder-season conditions.Laser-perforated venting is still part of the equation, helping regulate temperature as efforts ramp up. The result is a shoe that shouldnt feel sealed off or overbuilt, even as it adds a bit more protection from the elements.Dual BOA Fit for On-the-Fly AdjustmentsInstead of laces, the Imperial AS uses a dual-dial BOA Li2 system, allowing riders to quickly and precisely fine-tune fit while wearing gloves or shoe covers. The dual-dial setup allows for independent adjustment across different zones of the foot, which becomes more noticeable on longer rides or when conditions change mid-ride. Whether its tightening things up for a hard effort or backing off slightly as feet swell, the system makes it easy to adapt without stopping.Giro pairs the BOA system with soft lace guides, helping distribute pressure more evenly across the top of the foot and avoid hot spots.Proven Carbon PlatformUnderfoot, nothing changes, and thats a good thing. The Imperial AS uses Giros forged carbon-fiber outsole. In our experience, this sole delivers the kind of stiffness youd expect from a race-focused shoe, translating power directly through the pedal without noticeable flex. But its not so stiff that you feel like youre in a hockey skate or get hot spots like a ski boot. The outsole is finished with stainless steel hardware, a replaceable TPU heel pad, and a reinforced toe section for added durability, small details that tend to matter more the longer you own the shoe.Fit and SupportInside, the Imperial AS uses Giros SuperNatural Fit Kit, which includes adjustable arch support options to fine-tune fit.Combined with the structured upper and dual BOA system, the overall feel is focused and secure without being overly restrictive. Its the kind of fit that disappears once youre riding, something Giro has consistently done well with its performance footwear.Built for the Full SeasonWhat stands out most about the Imperial AS is how little it asks the rider to compromise. At 234 grams per shoe (size 43), it remains firmly in the lightweight performance category. At the same time, the updated upper gives it enough versatility to handle less-than-ideal conditions without feeling like a specialty shoe.Thats really the point here. Rather than building a separate bad weather option, Giro is refining its top-tier platform so riders can stay on the same shoe across a wider range of conditions. I dig it, and cant wait to check them out for myself. Giro Imperial AS Pricing and AvailabilityThe Giro Imperial AS is available now $449.95 USD / 449.99 EUR / 399.99 GBPSizing runs from EU 3648, with half sizes available from 42.5 to 45.5, and uses Giros Performance Fit.Giro.com The post Giro Introduces Imperial AS: Race-Level Road Shoe Built for All Conditions appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 278 Vue

- BIKERUMOR.COMQUOC Announces M Pro Lace Pro-Level Power Transfer Meets Classic Lace ComfortTheres a quiet resurgence happening in the pro peloton. While dials and ratchets dominate most race-day footwear, a growing number of riders are rediscovering the simple brilliance of laces. And QUOCs M Pro Lace leans fully into that movement, pairing traditional lace closure with modern race-level engineering. At its core, the M Pro Lace is built on the same Tour-proven platform as the brands M3 Pro (reviewed here), meaning it shares the exact same full-carbon sole architecture designed for stiffness and power transfer. The difference? Fit refinement.(Photo/@piperalbrecht)Lace Closure for Precision FitInstead of a dial system, the M Pro Lace uses a two-tone lace system designed to distribute pressure evenly across the entire foot. The idea is simple: a lace allows riders to fine-tune tension across multiple zones rather than tightening a single point. The simple but effective tool helps riders to eliminate hotspots and, in some instances, become more aerodynamic without a larger equipment change. The fit of laces has a locked-in feel, but not ratched in, thats what we felt in the Escape lace-up we reviewed a few years back. Laces maintain comfort and stability, whether youre sprinting out of the saddle or grinding through long endurance efforts, but with less of the wire feeling on the forefoot. Laces also offer fail-safe reliability, fewer moving parts, and a lower chance of mechanical failure mid-ride.(Photo/Quoc)Race-Level Carbon PlatformPower delivery is handled by a 100% hand-laid unidirectional carbon fiber sole, the same platform used in QUOCs high-end M series race shoes. That construction aims to maximize stiffness and efficiency, translating every watt into forward momentum without unwanted flex. Despite the stiffness, the M Pro Lace remains impressively light, tipping the scale at claimed 245g in a size EU42.(Photo/Quoc)Structured VentilationThe upper takes a technical approach to breathability. QUOC uses a triple-layer aerated mesh construction reinforced with TPU, creating a structure that balances airflow and support. The crisscrossed TPU reinforcement adds stability without adding bulk, while ventilation channels help keep airflow moving when temperatures climb.(Photo/Quoc)Locked-In Heel & Long-Ride ComfortThe M Pro Lace features a sculpted heel cup designed to eliminate slippage, paired with a refined last and a padded collar to hold the rearfoot securely during high-effort riding.Inside the shoe, a vibration-dampening insole with anatomic pressure relief helps reduce road buzz and fatigue over longer distances. Endurance riders should appreciate this addition during big training blocks or long days in the saddle.(Photo/Quoc)Built for Real-World Road RidingDurability also gets attention with a TPU toe border designed to resist scuffs and wear, helping keep the shoe looking sharp after months of riding and caf stops. Compatibility is standard for modern road setups, with 3-bolt cleat support for Shimano, Look, and Speedplay systems. - BIKERUMOR.COMFFWD Third-Generation TYRO Carbon Wheelset Has Wider Rim & New N/LITE HubsDutch wheelmaker FFWD has rolled out the third generation of its affordable TYRO carbon wheelset. The update refines the platform that has long served as the entry point to the brands performance lineup. The updated wheels bring a revised rim profile, a newly developed in-house hub platform, and a modest weight reduction, all while keeping the price unchanged.TYRO has always occupied an interesting spot in FFWDs range. With this latest version, FFWD focused on improving versatility and real-world usability without losing sight of the wheels original purpose: dependable carbon performance at a relatively accessible price. One wheel, many tire options. (All Photo/FFWD)Updated Rim ProfileThe biggest update is the rim itself. The new TYRO uses a 45mm-deep full-carbon clincher rimwith a 23mm internal width and 31mm external width. That wider internal measurement reflects where modern road and all-road setups have headed over the last few years.A wider rim supports larger tires and helps them maintain a more stable, rounded profile. FFWD lists 25mm as the minimum tire size and up to 45mm as the maximum, which effectively pushes the TYRO beyond traditional road duty and into the all-road/gravel category. The 45mm depth remains a balanced middle ground. Its deep enough to deliver noticeable aerodynamic gains on faster road rides while still being predictable when the wind picks up. FFWD shapes the rim using its AeroShape profile, intended to smooth airflow while maintaining stable handling in crosswinds.Built for Modern Tire SizesThe wider internal rim width of 23mm (31mm outer) pairs particularly well with the now-common 2832mm road tires. Though riders looking to venture onto rough pavement or light gravel can comfortably step up to the high-30mm or even low-40mm range.New N/LITE Hub PlatformAt the center of the wheel sits a new component entirely: FFWDs N/LITE hub.The hub was developed specifically for the TYRO but borrows design principles from the companys higher-end N/GAGE hub. Youll find the N/GAGE hub on the toptier FFWD RYOT and DRIFT wheels. The N/LITE hub uses a revised shell design that trims unnecessary material while preserving structural strength. Internally, it runs on FFWDs ratchet-style engagement system, a mechanism known for reliability and relatively simple servicing.Freehub options include Shimano HG, SRAM XDR, Campagnolo, and Microspline, allowing compatibility with nearly every current drivetrain.Internally, the hubs spin on robust steel cartridge bearings of fairly common sizes.Front hub: 2 26157-2RSRear hub drive side: 6902-2RSRear hub non-drive side: 26157-2RSFreehub body: 2 6802-2RSSapim Sprint Spokes and Classic LacingThe wheel build itself uses Sapim Sprint spokes, a well-known performance spoke that balances durability and weight. Both wheels use straight-pull spokes paired with DT Pro Lock brass nipples, a combination chosen for strength and long-term reliability. The TYRO keeps a 24-spoke configuration front and rear, laced in a 2-cross pattern on all sides. That layout should provide a good balance between stiffness, strength, and serviceability.Lighter Wheels Without Changing the PriceThanks to the revised rim and hub construction, the new TYRO sheds around 100 grams compared with the previous generation.Full build specs for FFWD TYRO Wheels The final weight is listed as:Front wheel: 725gRear wheel: 850gComplete wheelset: 1575gThose numbers place the TYRO comfortably in the lightweight carbon all-road category while still retaining the durability expected from a wheel designed for everyday riding.Designed for Real-World RidingWhile many carbon wheels chase ever-lower weights or extreme aero shapes, the TYRO remains focused on practical performance. The 45mm rim depth, wider internal profile, and durable hub architecture make it equally suited for fast road rides, endurance training, or mixed-surface routes where tire volume and stability become more important.Price and AvailabilityDespite the updates, FFWD has kept the pricing unchanged. The third-generation TYRO wheelset is available for 1,099, with immediate availability through FFWD dealers and direct channels.More info at FFWD.comThe post FFWD Third-Generation TYRO Carbon Wheelset Has Wider Rim & New N/LITE Hubs appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Commentaires 0 Parts 297 Vue
