Segways New Myon & Muxi eBikes are Heavy on Features & on Weight
Las Vegas own Segway (yeah, that Segway) has been a big player in the Micro Mobility and LEV (Light Electric Vehicles) space for some time now. Recently, they released two new eBikes, the Myon and the Muxi (pronounced moo-shee). Both of these new steeds include some interesting features with relatively low prices.(Photos / Segway)The Myon and Muxi, are aimed at a wider audience than their previous models. Both of the new bikes feature Segways Intelligent Ride System, which includes security features like Apple Find My integration and AirLock proximity unlocking. It also has a Lost Mode that lets users remotely disable stolen bikes. The Intelligent Ride System also provides over-the-air updates for six different components, a full-color HD display, automatic lighting, and real-time fitness data syncing. The upgraded Algorithm 2.0 uses multiple sensors for smoother power delivery that responds more naturally to pedaling input.Segway MyonThe Myon is available now through Segways website and dealers. It operates as a Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bike and is suitable for both commuting and recreational riding. The Myon includes Segways new electronic shifting system thats paired with a 9-speed Shimano drivetrain. Plus, the Myon comes with TurboTuned motor optimization technology. Theres also an option for a removable top tube accessory that can convert the step-through frame to a traditional diamond design. Seagway says that this adds stiffness to the frame and allows for up to 11 lbs of additional accessories, like frame bags. The electronic shifting system uses simple +/- buttons on the handlebars. Those are connected to a servo unit near the rear derailleur, which looks a bit more intentional than other mechanical-to-electronic shifting conversions weve seen. Theres still a bit of cable and housing to worry about maintaining, but it should be way easier to replace than internally routed housing through an ebike frame.Since the auto-shifting is powered by the main battery, riders dont need to worry themselves to charge separate components. The system can receive software updates for future improvements. Users can fine-tune shifting performance through the app without needing to be a bike mechanic.Segways TurboTuned technology uses precise sensors, physics-based algorithms, and multiple input sources including torque, cadence, and gyroscope data. The tech then uses the data from these sensors to optimize the motor and battery system. When needed, this approach delivers stronger performance than the 500-watt rating might suggest. The Myrons system provides up to 80 miles of range with 85 Nm of peak torque.Seagway Myron Retail & DetailMyron in Shoe Suede Blue colorwayMyron in Skyscraper Grey colorwayRetail: $1,999Nominal Power: 500WPeak Torque: 85NmBattery: 48V / 722WhMax Speed: 28 mph (class 3)Class: 1,2,3 (selectable in app.)Range: Up to 80 miShifting: ElectronicDerailleur: Shimano CUES 9-spdCassette: 11-39Cranks/chainring: 170mm/46TSuspension: 80mm frontBrakes: Hydraulic disc (2-piston / 180mm)Intelligent lighting w/ 600-lumen auto headlight, front light bar, turn indicators and taillight27.5 x 1.95 tiresDisplay: TFT multi-function w/ navigation + other ride metricsCharging: 3.9A / 5.5 hrsIPX7 (battery, display)PX5 (body)UL 2271 & 2849 CertifiedWeight: 72.75 lbsPayload: 300 lbsMax rider weight: 264 lbsColors: Shoe Suede Blue & Skyscraper GreySegway MuxiThe new Segway Muxi is a short-tail eBike that combines a compact frame with cargo-carrying capabilities. The bike features a low standover height and upright riding position. This makes it more accessible for various riders. Its single-speed drivetrain pairs with a direct-drive motor, and riders can choose between Class 1 or Class 2 operation depending on their local regulations and riding preferences. The Muxis modular design allows riders to customize their setup with separate accessories. Coming this March will be a Passenger Kit that includes a seat, foot pegs, and wheel guards. This will enable the Muxi to carry a passenger up to 120 pounds.Additional accessories include a middle basket for extra cargo space and fenders to keep the rider looking spiffy when the route gets sloppy. The bike comes standard with a fold-down cupholder for convenient beverage control during rides. The Muxi is equipped with safety and control features. These can be helpful in the bikes cargo-carrying capabilities and through varied riding conditions. For example, Hill Start Assist prevents the bike from rolling backward when starting on slopes. While Hill Descent Control manages speed during downhill rides and reduces brake wear. Muxis Traction Control System monitors wheel spin and adjusts power delivery to maintain stability. Finally, Regenerative braking helps extend battery range by converting kinetic energy back into stored power. The Muxi also integrates with Segways Intelligent Ride System, providing the same security and convenience features through connected technology as the Myon. This combination of practical cargo capacity, safety systems, and smart features positions the Muxi as a versatile option for riders who need both utility and flexibility in their daily transportation or recreational riding.Muxi Retail & DetailOlive colorwayMuxi in Sage colorwayRetail: $1,699Nominal Power: 750WPeak Torque: 80NmBattery: 48V / 716WhMax Speed: 20 mph (class 2)Class: 1,2 (selectable in app)Range: Up to 80 miDrivetrain: Direct drive, single-speedCranks/chainring: 170mm/46TBrakes: Hydraulic disc (2-piston / 180mm)Display: TFT multi-function w/ navigation + other ride metricsCharging: 3.9A / 5.5 hrsIPX7 (battery, display)IPX5 (body)UL 2271 & 2849 CertifiedIntelligent lighting w/ 600-lumen autoheadlight and taillight20 x 5 tiresWeight: 73 lbsPayload: 418 lbsMax. Party Like a Rackstar with Portland Design Works Big, Rack Mounted Tail Light
Portland Design Works (PDW) releases another helpful gadget to help keep you safe out there. Hot on the heels of the Valentine-inspired Blinking of You taillight comes the new Rackstar taillight.(Photos / Portland Design Works)The Rackstar offers a practical lighting solution for cyclists who use rear cargo racks. This tail light mounts directly to the reflector eyelets on most carrier racks, so it sits out of the way of seatpacks, panniers, or other accessories that typically attach to the seatpost. When compared to standard taillights, the new Rackstar light is a much larger size. This helps to provide increased visibility for added safety. The built-in reflector component meets EU safety standards, giving riders both active lighting and passive reflection in a single unit. The Rackstars battery life stands out with a claimed 200-hour run time between charges. This extended runtime reduces the frequency of charging and helps ensure the light wont die during longer rides or multi-day trips. PDW says that the Rackstars large size helps to get a bigger battery that enables a long run time.Rackstar Retail & DetailRetail: $30Charging: USB-CMount: Rear rack reflector mountLow battery warning: YesCharging status light: YesModes/lumens/run times Steady / 15LM / 50h Flash / 15LM / 100h Dance / 15LM / 200hBuilt for touring cyclists, commuters, or anyone who regularly carries gear on a rear rack. Cateringon Irish Rail not priority for transport Minister, says funding extra services is better
Senators tell Minister it should be seen as a public service. Issue raised on regurally by passangers longer train routes, such as to Sligo, Mayo.Minister for Transport, Darragh OBrien, said he would prefer to see extra services rather than the provision of on-board cateringon long-distance Irish Rail services, but he did not answer that logic does not apply to the cateringservices on the Belfast-Dublin and Dublin-Cork routes. He was first asked about the provision of food and hot drinks on trains by Senator Nessa Cosgrove (Labour) before being pushed on the issue by Senator Mark Duffy (Fine Gael) at the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport this week.I know Senator Cosgrove mentioned onboard catering, do you envisage that returning on the likes of the Mayo and the Sligo lines within the next year? Is something that you support? said Senator Duffy.Minister OBrien said: As I said to Senator Cosgrove, the issue is the choices that weve got to make some of the estimations in relation to the reinstatement of those services, its a very significant cost that relates to them, Id rather invest those monies in services. Senator Duffy said: But if we use that logic, should we then cost the catering under the Dublin to Cork line and add additional services on the Mayo to Dublin line. Using that logic?Minister OBrien said: Well, weve got to look at what weve got to do, which is to manage the demands within the transport sector, and thats what Im doing. So youve asked me directly, can I give you a commitment this year, the catering service, we brought back in those lines: No, I cant.Asked by Senator Duffy if hed like to see the cathering brought back, the Minister said: My priority is that Id like to see more services. If I have the choice between that and catering, it will be, it will be improved services above catering. I dont think it can be any clearer than that.Senator Cosgrove said: I know that [some] people consider trivial, but its not were not looking for the Trans-Siberian Express, were not looking for the Orient Express. We just want a basic service. So, Id just love to find out the justification of how [catering] can be returned on some routes and not on others.Minister OBrien said: If you look at the investment thats happening in our major train stations across the country, that the facilities are much, much better and will continue to improve both from a retrofitting perspective for accessibility, but also in relation to the facilities and the offerings that are there, particularly in our intercity train stations as well.First of all, I suppose our focus is on using the resources that we have to invest in the transport services themselves, he said. But I have listened as well, and it has been raised that we are looking at [catering], but theres a significant cost for it too.Senator Cosgrove said that products sold as part of catering on trains are not free but rather quite expensive. So, she said the 2 million a year cost estimate for providing catering on further lines surprised her.Minister OBrien said: If you take two million [euro], thats the equivalent of a new town bus service. So, do you do a new town bus service, or do you do cathering cart?He said his Department has asked Irish Rail and the National Transport Authority to look at cheaper alternatives to catering, but added that My focus has got to be on services and rightly so.Senator Cosgrove said: I understand that, but I would see it as providing a public service rather than seeing it as a, you know, as a kind of a profit-making service and the number of people that are using the trains in Sligo has significantly gone up. by 7.3 in one year. She said she gets contacted about the lack of catering all the time, including people using trains for medical appointments in Dublin.
