- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMNew Hammerhead Karoo integrates with SRAM AXS and improves GPS accuracyThe third-generation Hammerhead Karoo has a longer battery life, more storage, greater GPS accuracy and a revised shape. The bike computer also integrates with SRAM AXS. It will be supplied with the new SRAM Red AXS groupset when bought as an aftermarket groupset. The new Karoo costs 449.99 / $474.99 / 499.99 / AU$749.99 / CA$699.99. It is available from today.Physical updatesThere is more space between the buttons than before. - Warren Rossiter / Our mediaThe previous generation Karoo 2 impressed us with its high-quality display and broad functionality, including features, such as its live Climber mode, which were innovative at the time. SRAM bought Hammerhead in 2022, and since then it has been at the helm, driving the claimed improvements to Hammerhead's latest bike computer. The new unit is lighter at 117.7g. - Warren Rossiter / Our mediaOne of these claimed improvements is the Karoo's new body. Its 103mm long and 15mm deep, but is 64mm wide at the base, tapering to 54mm across at the top for a reversed wedge-like shape. There are four hardware buttons on the unit's sides. These are spaced wider than the previous generation. Hammerhead says this change was made following feedback from riders, who reported they were too close together to be used easily wearing winter gloves. At the base, next to the covered USB-C charge port, is a new power button another change born from user feedback, according to the brand.Hammerhead says the Karoo offers a 30 per cent improvement in battery life, now claimed to be 15 hours.Hammerhead also says the computer will charge up more quickly. The brand says a full charge from empty takes two and a half hours, while 30 per cent takes just 30 minutes.Improved GPSThe computer has an on/off button by the USB-C charge port. - Warren Rossiter / Our mediaHammerhead says the Karoo's GPS signal is now more accurate, thanks to a range of satellite systems: Multi-band (L1+L5) GNSS GPSGLONASSGalileoQZSS BEIDOU Hammerhead says the memory of the computer has also doubled to 64GB. The touchscreen sports the same resolution and size as before (at 480 x 800 pixels, and 3.2in corner-to-corner). But this is still a higher resolution than major rivals, such as the Wahoo Element Roam and Garmin Edge 830.Hammerhead claims the screen has improved, and our test sample appears brighter than the previous Karoo. Hammerhead says the new design weighs 118g and our test sample weighs 117.7g. This undercuts the previous models 132g weight.New appThe new Karoo (right) is noticeably brighter than the previous generation. - Warren Rossiter / Our mediaA new companion app (for iOS and Android) has been developed for the new Karoo. The app allows riders to upload rides, synchronise routes and workouts, and use live tracking by using a connected phones signal.Routes or workouts can also be shared and synced with the head unit. The mapping capability is also said to be expanded. If you dont have a route, Hammerhead says riders can share a pin from Google or Apple Maps to the companion app, and the Karoo will configure a route.Training and ebike functionalityThe Karoo's rear has a slot for the dedicated mount system. - Warren Rossiter / Our mediaHammerhead claims the Karoo has a new workout player, which is compatible with the TrainerRoad and Training Peaks indoor cycling apps. The feature uses a screen with a dedicated start-stop feature and customisable data fields. Hammerhead says it offers full visibility of upcoming and past interval information.Hammerhead claims the new Karoo is easy to pair to your electric bike and offers data fields such as motor assist level, estimated range, and battery level. This move is arguably unsurprising, given parent company SRAM recently launched its own Eagle Powertrain ebike motor system. The Karoo features ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity for peripherals including heart rate monitors, power meters, connected lights, and radar systems.Designed for SRAM AXSThe Karoo's shape is now broader at the base than the top. - Warren Rossiter / Our mediaThe Hammerhead Karoo will sync with SRAMs latest AXS groupsets and components, including the new Red AXS groupset, launched today. The brand says the new computer can customise the functionality of an AXS drivetrain, without having to engage with the AXS app. This includes the ability to change the functions assigned to buttons. The brand also says the Karoo enables automatic sensor pairing and detailed battery data, including low-battery warnings, if registered with your existing (or new) AXS account.SRAM has also announced that the Hammerhead Karoo will be supplied with all aftermarket Red AXS groupsets, while it says some bike brands may choose to include it on Red AXS-equipped bikes.Hammerhead Karoo pricingThe Karoo comes with an out-front mount and a quarter-turn adaptor. - Warren Rossiter / Our mediaThe Hammerhead Karoo costs 449.99 / $474.99 / 499.99 / AU$749.99 / CA$699.99.Included in the price is the Karoo computer, a Hammerhead-specific mounting system for 31.8mm handlebars, a quarter-turn mount adaptor, a tethering lanyard, and a USB-C charge cable. These accessories are also available to buy individually:31.8mm Hammerhead Mounting System: 32 / $39.99 / 37Quarter Turn Adapter: 8 / $9.99 / 10Lanyard: 4 / $4.99 / 5USB-C Charging Cable: 8 / $9.99 100 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 132 Visualizações

- WWW.CYCLIST.CO.UKHammerhead Karoo 3 has new internals and over 15 hours battery lifeCyclistHammerhead Karoo 3 has new internals and over 15 hours battery lifeHammerhead has updated its Karoo cycling computer. It retains the same case dimensions and screen size and resolution as the previous generation Karoo 2, but theres a wholesale upgrade to the Karoos internals, with a faster 2.0GHz processor, 64GB memory in place of 32GB and multi-band GNSS support. Crucially, Hammerhead has at the same time increased battery life from a claimed eight hours for the Karoo 2 to whats now said to be over 15 hours. This is the first major upgrade since Hammerhead was acquired by SRAM, and it has been co-developed with the brands new Red AXS groupset to offer closer integration you can configure SRAM groupset behaviour in the Karoo, instead of using the AXS smartphone app.The new Hammerhead Karoo is priced at 449.99 / $474.99 / 499.99 / AU$749.99.Read more: SRAM Red AXS reclaims lightest groupset mantle and updates ergonomicsRead more: SRAM Red AXS groupset reviewRead more: Zipp ups integration with SL 80 Race bar and Goodyear-made Vector R tyresUpgraded internalsHammerheads screen resolution was already significantly greater than its competitors, with the 3.2 inch colour touchscreen boasting a 480800 pixel resolution. In contrast, among its competitors the Garmin Edge 1040 has a 3.5 inch touchscreen with 282 x 470 pixels and the Wahoo Elemnt Roam has a 2.7 inch non-touch screen with 240400 pixels resolution. The upgrades to the Karoos internals include a new quad core 2.0GHz processor, up from the previous generation Karoo 2s 1.1GHz. The internal memory size has doubled from 32GB to 64GB and theres 4GB of RAM, again double that of the Karoo 2.Hammerhead has added new multi-band GNSS support to the Karoo, which is also a feature of the latest generation of Garmin and Wahoo cycling computers and should provide a more accurate position fix, particularly under tree cover or when riding between tall buildings.Probably due to the high res screen and Android-based internals, the Karoo 2s battery life lagged behind that offered by its competitors, with a claimed eight hours. The new Karoo improves significantly on that with a claimed 15+ hours. Its still a little lower than Wahoos claimed 17 hours and significantly less than the Garmin Edge 1040s claimed 35 hours without the solar charging option and 45 hours with solar charging. Its nevertheless a significant upgrade that makes multiple rides between charges or longer outings a more practical proposition.Hammerhead says that you can recharge the battery by 30 percent in 30 minutes, with a full charge taking 2.5 hours, using USB-C charging. Despite the upgraded specs, Hammerhead quotes a reduced weight of 118g for the new Karoo versus 131g for the Karoo 2. The new unit retains the IP67 ingress rating of its predecessor. The Karoo now provides the functionality to configure AXS groupsets, so that you dont need to use the AXS companion app, while it continues to offer BLE and ANT+ connectivity, so you can hook up HRMs, power meters and more. You can also configure your AXS shifters to control the Karoo.A spat with Shimano still means that theres no native support for Di2 connectivity in the Karoo, although there are work-arounds.Theres support for rearview radar and lights carried over from the Karoo 2. Hammerhead has also added greater connectivity to electric bikes, so you can monitor battery level, motor output, range estimates and other stats.Other features carried over from its predecessor include on-the-fly climb profiles and free global maps and theres Wi-Fi uploading at the end of a ride. Hammerhead will continue its practice of providing regular software updates.New smartphone appHammerheads smartphone companion app used to simply pass data through to its web dashboard, but theres a new companion app that provides increased functionality. You can, for example, now send a pin from Google Maps or Apple Maps to the app, allowing you to navigate to a location and you can also use the companion app to send a ride or workout file to the Karoo from your phone.Existing Karoo 2 users will automatically be sent an invitation to install the upgraded companion app on their phones. The ride dashboard and data management and analysis functionality remain features of the web app only though.Hammerhead has increased its support for structured workouts in the new Karoo, with a forward view of upcoming intervals during a workout. You can see how well youre following an interval session while your workout is in progress and theres now integration with TrainingPeaks and TrainerRoad. An upgraded out-front mountAdditionally, Hammerhead has upgraded the Karoos mounting system, although it retains compatibility with the previous generation mount. The new plastic mount allows you to move the Karoo closer to or further in front of your bars and also to install a GoPro or light below the computer, using a separately sold adapter. The mount comes in the box with the Karoo, along with an adapter allowing you to use a quarter turn mount. Third party mounting hardware is also available, with K-Edge offering a range of Hammerhead-compatible alloy mounts. The upgrade to the Karoo has been accompanied by a price increase, with the new Karoo priced at 449.99 / $474.99 / 499.99 / AU$749.99.Read our guide to the best bike computers with GPS for more navigation and training options.Read more: SRAM Red AXS reclaims lightest groupset mantle and updates ergonomicsRead more: SRAM Red AXS groupset reviewRead more: Zipp ups integration with SL 80 Race bar and Goodyear-made Vector R tyresThe post Hammerhead Karoo 3 has new internals and over 15 hours battery life appeared first on Cyclist.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 137 Visualizações

- BIKERUMOR.COMNew Zipp x Goodyear VectorR Tires Optimized for Zipp 303With all the hullabaloo around hookless road tubeless, the new Goodyear VectorR road bike tires seem like a timely launch. Developed in conjunction with Zipp specifically for their 303 wheels, its an interesting partnership that delivers a truly optimized system. The key difference is that the tread cap and casing is all specifically made for Zipp 303-series wheels. The result is the VectorR 70030 tire measures a true 30mm on Zipps 25mm internal rims. The bead design is optimized for better fitment with hookless wheels, and more specifically for Zipps 353 NSW and 303 Firecrest wheels. Its not just fitment for safety reasons, because, if were being honest, hookless rims for road are mostly fine as long as you adhere to recommended tire pressures and installation guidelines. If youre concerned about it, then theres no need to buy Zipp wheels or Goodyear tires optimized for them and you can go straight to the comments to register your concerns. This is what happens with 28mm tires on hooked and wider hookless rims. No, here, its largely about aerodynamics. Goodyear says that standard 28mm wide tires are designed for rims with 19mm internal widths, yielding a tire that measure right about 28mm wide. That puts its tread cap where it should be for straight-line and cornering grip, and the casing construction is designed to support that. But Zipps rim profiles are much wider (as are many other brands these days). Put that same 28mm tire on a wider rim and it usually stretches to about 30mm wide. Its profile gets distorted and the tread cap isnt wide enough to fully support deep cornering. But, oddly, aerodynamics are slightly improved. So, why not optimize? The new VectorR 30mm tires on Zipp 303 hookless rims. With these new VectorR 30mm tires, the tire construction is designed to create an optimal profile, tread contact patch, and aerodynamics. The tires actual width is 30mm, which matches the outer rim width for a better look and streamlined airflow. Not only do they match the rim, their sidewalls and construction are designed to support the rider and bike weight with the recommended lower tire pressures. What about other brands of wheels?Goodyear calls this their Fitment Series, which utilize strategic partnerships toe develop industry leading tires that embrace emerging technologies and trends without compromise. Its a systems-based approach to tire development that optimizes around a specific use case. In this case, its the Zipp 303 NSW/Firecrest rims.Beyond that, its a bit fuzzy. Zipp isnt endorsing them for use on other rims but suggested that, technically, theyre compatible with Zipps 23mm internal rims, too, (like the 404-series) but theyre more compatible with their 25mm internal rims.Goodyear lists their specs as designed to measure 30mm on a 25mm TSS rim, but also indicate that they are for use only with Zipp 62223-25 TSS rims and were designed exclusively around the Zipp 62225 TSS rim. So, up to you if you want to run them on other wheelsit wont void a warranty or anything, butWhat about speed & grip? Its not just about fitment. They also targeted speed, rolling resistance, and grip. Zipp says theyre about 1w faster than the Continental tire theyve always used for testing, which theyve always found to be the fastest tire theyve tested, and a good benchmark. They also have low rolling resistance, which, when combined with the aero gains, puts them overall on par with the speed of the Conti. For grip, they got closer to Contis dry grip, but exceeded both it and the Vittoria for wet grip. So, basically, its a great tire.Coming in two versionsThere are three versions of the tires, two 30mm wide and one 35mm wide. While the names imply theres one specifically for the NSW wheels, thats really just an indication that its the higher-end tire. You can put it on the 303 Firecrest, etc., if you want.VectorR NSW 30 T2The lightweight racing and climbing option, it has a 150tpi short-ply casing with their R:Shield puncture protection layer under the tread cap. They have their Dynamic:UHP compound for low rolling resistance and high grip. Claimed weight is 275-280g, 70030 only.Vector R SW 30 T2 & 35 T2These have a 120tpi casing and thicker tread caps for longer tread life and a bit more puncture protection, but are otherwise the same. Comes in 70030 (325g) and 70035 (365g) sizes.GoodyearBike.comThe post New Zipp x Goodyear VectorR Tires Optimized for Zipp 303 appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 130 Visualizações
- WWW.BIKERADAR.COMNew SRAM Red AXS is the worlds lightest electronic disc brake groupsetSRAM's new Red AXS groupset is claimed to be the world's lightest electronic disc brake road bike groupset, saving 154g versus the previous generation. Priced from around 4,090 / $4,090 / 4,135, the groupset is fully wireless, with a new lever and hood design, increased brake adjustability, and improved braking performance from the hoods. Front shifting is also claimed to be faster and smoother. Compared to Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 and Campagnolo Super Record Wireless, Red AXS offers a wider range of cassette and chainring options. All new Red AXS components are backwards-compatible with existing 12-speed AXS components, enabling mixing and matching or single component upgrades. According to SRAM, Red AXS is lighter than any other electronic groupset a claim we've put to the test, comparing the real-world weights of the groupset to Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 R9200.How does it ride? The prominent pommels atop the hoods, which have been a signature of SRAMs hydraulic shift-brake levers since the Red 22 hydraulic system, have been removed.SRAM says reorienting the hydraulic piston from the previous vertical alignment to a new horizontal layout and repositioning the pivot point for the lever enabled it to more tightly package the internals. The new hoods are 7mm longer and smaller in circumference compared to the previous generation. SRAM claims the new hoods are easier to hold for a wider range of hands and can reduce fatigue.According to SRAM, the new lever pivot location and shape is also said to reduce the effort required to actuate the brake by around 20 per cent from the hoods and around 33 per cent from the drops.SRAM has also introduced independent reach and contact point adjustment. The reach is adjustable by 2.5mm at the pivot, which results in a difference of around 12 to 15mm at the lever tip.The brake systems contact point adjustment offers four positions, from the shortest throw and stiffest brake action, through the longest lever stroke with the most progressive feel. The button on the inside face of the lever can be used to control the drivetrain or accessories. - SRAMThe flanks of the hoods inner surface now feature what SRAM has dubbed 'Bonus Buttons. These are similar to Shimanos hidden hood-top buttons as seen on Dura-Ace Di2 R9200 Di2 and Ultegra Di2 R8100 Di2. Like Shimano, these buttons can control ANT+ devices or act as secondary shifters. The buttons are configured through SRAMs AXS app.Skeletal brake calipersSRAM Red AXS groupset - SRAMThe brake caliper's new skeletal design is said to reduce weight by 83g a pair.New internal architecture increases pad clearance by 4mm and the piston is located further backwards in the caliper. SRAM says these updates bring rub-free operation. The Paceline rotor now features an aluminium carrier, which is claimed to save 8g. The rotors are available in 140 and 160mm sizes. They are only available in a Center Lock option.Improved shiftingFront shifting is said to have been improved. - SRAMThe front derailleur continues to employ SRAMs Yaw technology. This sees the cage pivot with the angle of the chain to eliminate chain rub. Past experience tells us this requires careful setup, but works well.SRAM has developed guides to simplify the setup process. This is available in two sizes to suit different chainrings. The new auto-trim function is claimed to offer faster, quieter and more reliable shifting. The rear derailleur features handsome polished sections. - SRAMThe new rear derailleur's hollow outer parallelogram plate and cutouts in the pulley wheels save 16g over the previous generation. The new one-size-fits-all derailleur can accommodate cassettes ranging from 10-28t to 10-36t.The new derailleur features larger X-Sync 14t and 12t pulley wheels (up from 12t for both pulley wheels on the previous-generation groupset). These are equipped with ceramic bearings. SRAM says these updates reduce chain articulation and increase drivetrain efficiency (although it doesnt say by how much). The Orbit fluid damper prevents the chain from bouncing over rougher surfaces. The motor system and batteries are unchanged from the previous generation derailleurs. They use firmware shared with the rest of the SRAM AXS ecosystem. As a result, all new Red AXS components are cross-compatible with existing AXS parts at all levels.11 crankset optionsSRAM retains its one-piece chainrings for the new Red groupset. - SRAMThe new crankset retains its one-piece chainring design. SRAM claims this is lighter and more durable than conventional two-piece chainrings. The graphics on the carbon crank arms are more subtle than the previous generation. The carbon crank arms are made from a new hollow-construction method. Depending on set up, SRAM says this combined with the updated chainrings saves 29g compared to the previous versions. For the first time, SRAM now offers its crankset in a 160mm length option, which it says meets the current trend towards shorter cranks.SRAM Red AXS crankset length options: 160, 165, 167.5, 170, 172.5, 175mmThe 2x chainring sets are available in 50/37, 48/35, and 46/33 tooth combinations on complete bikes. 52/39, 54/41, 56/43 aftermarket chainring combinations will appeal to elite-level racers.Stock SRAM Red AXS chainring options: 50/37t, 48/35, 46/33tAftermarket SRAM Red AXS chainring options: 52/39, 54/41, 56/43tSRAM Red AXS 1x chainring options: 42, 44, 46, 48, 50tPlenty of power meter optionsSRAM has updated its Red AXS power meter. - SRAMThe updated Red AXS power meter is claimed to be the lightest and stiffest SRAM has made to date. As with the previous version, it has a claimed accuracy of /1.5 per cent. SRAM says its unaffected by fluctuations in climate and temperature. The power meter is integrated into the chainrings and is available in the same range of sizes as the non power meter-equipped chainrings.More cassette choicesThe cassette has also been updated. - SRAMSRAM now offers four cassette options, adding a 10-36t option and dropping the 10-26t option. SRAM Red AXS cassette options: 10-28, 10-30, 10-33, 10-36tSRAM says its cassettes are designed to offer gradual gear progression through the most frequently used gears. There are at least five one-tooth jumps on the 10-28, 10-30, and 10-33t cassettes.Weight savings here are minimal with SRAM claiming just a single gram saved over the previous generation 10-28t cassette.Red AXS cassettes are now available in the distinctive oil-slick rainbow colourway first seen on SRAM Eagle XX1, alongside standard grey.SRAM Red AXS cassette sprocket ratios 123456789101112 10-28t101112131415161719212428 10-30t101112131415171921242730 10-33t101112131415171921242833 10-36t101112131517192124283236 Edit Table New SRAM Red chainHollow pins and plates reduce weight by a modest amount. - SRAMThe flat-topped chain design remains as before, but now features a hollow pin construction with cutouts on the inner and outer plates.SRAM claims the new hollow pin design is lighter yet stronger than the previous generations solid pins, saving 13g.The hard chrome plating on inner plates and rollers leads to reduced wear and longer component life, according to SRAM (although it has not provided any figures to illustrate the increased durability).Like the cassette, the chain is also available in the oil-slick rainbow finish.Aftermarket Hammerhead Karoo includedSRAM has concurrently updated the Hammerhead Karoo. - SRAMThe latest Hammerhead Karoo computer is included with aftermarket SRAM Red AXS groupsets. The new Karoo computer offers direct control over AXS components and ANT+ support for accessories. The move comes after SRAM bought Hammerhead at the start of 2022.New Zipp SL80 handlebar designed for Red AXSMatching Zipp bars compliment the new shifters. - SRAMAn all-new Zipp carbon handlebar designed to integrate with the latest Red AXS levers has also been released. The aero-optimised handlebar features an overhang to cover the brake hose where it exits the hood. The shelf-like shape provides a larger resting area for a riders hands when on the hoods.Zipp, which is part of the SRAM group, says the bar features a refined drop shape to enable easier access to the brake lever when riding in the drops. The bars top section features aerodynamic profiling.
