- BIKERUMOR.COMA Full-Suspension Gravel eBike? Salsa Pushes Boundaries with New WanderosaMinnesotas Salsa Cycles has been teasing the Wanderosa, a full-suspension gravel eBike, since November. Well, today it has officially launched. Thats right, here it is! Introducing the Wanderosa, a bike that marks Salsas (and the industrys?) entry into full-suspension gravel ebikes. The Wanderosa represents their fifth electric bike platform launched since February 2024. This new discipline-bending bike features a carbon fiber frame with a flex-stay design and gives the rider 110mm of rear travel, which is paired with a 120mm travel suspension fork.Salsa calls the Wanderosa their light electric full-suspension gravel bike. Using the same electric system as the Salsa Morain full-suspension mountain bike, the Wanderosa is equipped with FAZUAs Ride 60 mid-drive motor that delivers 60Nm of torque with a 480Wh internal battery for class 3 assistance (class 1 in Canada).Powering Up New Gravel AdventuresSalsas category manager, Joe Meiser, says the Wanderosa was inspired by the teams extensive ebike experience. After ride experiences on a wide variety of gravel ebikes and light drive systems, our team recognized we had an opportunity to merge the power of FAZUAs Ride 60 drive system with an equally capable ride experience. Wanderosa comes from the team that defined gravel to begin with and continues to develop products that redefine what gravel is.The Wanderosa runs progressive drop bar geometry and is aimed at those who are looking for electric assistance to ride longer distances while tackling rougher and more challenging terrain. The headtube angle on the new Wanderosa is pretty slack at 65.3 degrees. This, when combined with the long rear center, would make it feel pretty stable on the techy stuff. It also sports a steep, 75.1-degree seat tube angle, which provides a comfy pedaling position. Salsa also made sure that the 44cm to 52cm bar width aligns with the frame sizes XS-XL.Im not gonna lie, it looks like a blast of a bike. Rear-Suspension InfoFront and rear travel come in at 120mm and 110mm, respectively. Riders can choose to reduce the rear travel to 100mm by simply reducing the shock stroke from 45mm to 40mm. The rear flexing-stays help reduce both over all weight of the bike and the amount of hardware that needs to be maintained. It also allows for the use of flat-mount rear brake calipers tucked inside the triangle.Wanderosa GeometryFrame DetailsConsidering this is a very unique bike packed with features, dont expect it to run cheap. Pricing for the Wanderosa starts at $7,999 for the Apex Eagle model, then goes up to $9,999 for the Rival GX AXS Transmission model, and tops out at $12,999 for the X0 Force AXS Transmission bike. Based on the website, it appears that the Apex and Force models are available now, while the Rival GX build is coming soon. - WWW.BIKERADAR.COMNew Salsa Wanderosa is a mind-bending full-suspension, drop-bar ebike but dont call it an MTBFull-suspension gravel was the mash-up trend of 2025, with Trek's out-there CheckOUT pushing the limits established by BMC's URS LT, Cannondale's Topstone and Lee Cougan's Super Innova Gravel. Now, for 2026, Salsa has tested the boundaries again not only with more suspension travel, but with the added dimension of electric assistance. Salsa certainly has form when it comes to genre mash-ups, and it will raise eyebrows again with the new Salsa Wanderosa an electric/mountain/gravel bike with drop bars. The brand's back catalogue includes the 2008 Salsa Fargo a monster drop-bar mountain bike with myriad fixtures that defined bikepacking before it existed. Then there was the Blackborow, a mix of cargo bike and fat bike from 2016 that paved the way for the likes of the Tern Orox and Momentum PakYak. The Wanderosa has geometry optimised for gravel drop bars. Salsa Cycles Housed within the carbon frame is a mid-mount ebike motor and internal battery from Fazua. Delve further into the specifications and the Wanderosa looks to be a bike built to take on technical trails, alongside gravel. The Wanderosa combines Fazua's mid-mounted electric assist with 110mm of rear travel and a 120mm-travel fork. Salsa Cycles All models come with a 120mm-travel fork and a dropper post, not to mention 29er wheelsets shod with 2.2in (55.8mm) tyres. Read more: Best electric gravel bikes: 9 gravel ebikes rated and reviewed Full-suspension gravel geometry The Wanderosa's back end relies on flex in the stays rather than a heavy pivot. Salsa Cycles Salsa insists the Wanderosa isnt simply an electric mountain bike with drop bars, though its progressive geometry is designed around drop bars. That means a long reach combined with a short stem, a steep (75-degree) seat angle and a slack 65.3-degree head angle for stability. There's 120mm of travel at the front and 110mm at the rear from its 45mm-stroke shock. You can reduce the rear travel to 100mm by restricting the shock stroke to 40mm. The back end is supplemented by a flex-stay design in place of pivots. Salsa claims this helps reduce weight without compromising the suspension's effectiveness. Salsa Cycles Full-power mid-motor assistance Bar-mounted blips control the motor power levels. Salsa Cycles The Wanderosa uses Fazuas latest Ride 60 drive unit. The mid-drive unit, as the name suggests, provides a claimed 60Nm of torque powered by an internal 480Wh battery. In the US, its a Class 3 unit, maxing out at 28mph/45kph, and in Canada it's Class 1 (20mph/32kph). The Wanderosa isn't available yet in Europe. Salsa says the lightweight 4.1kg system is custom-tuned for gravel riding, and it comes with Fazuas Road Control blips mounted under the bar tape for motor-mode switching without reaching for the top-tube mounted control unit. Salsa Wanderosa range details The range-topping Force X0 AXS bike. Salsa Cycles Topping out the range is the $12,999 Wanderosa Force XO AXS Transmission model. This Wanderosa comes with a drivetrain that blends SRAM's road and mountain bike parts. Here, it mixes a SRAM XO Transmission mountain bike derailleur, brakes and a carbon ebike-specific Praxis ETOR crankset with SRAM's Force levers. Up front is a 120mm RockShox SID Ultimate fork, with a SIDLuxe Ultimate shock at the rear. The high-grade spec is completed with a RockShox Reverb AXS wireless dropper and WTBs CZR Light i30 carbon wheelset shod with Teravail Camrock 29x2.2in tyres. The Salsa Wanderosa Rival GX AXS. Salsa Cycles Next in line is the Wanderosa Rival GX AXS at $9,999. This mixes a SRAM GX Eagle AXS rear derailleur, alloy Praxis ETOR crankset and SRAM Rival AXS shifters and brakes. Suspension is provided by a RockShox SID Select+ 3P 120mm-travel fork and SIDLuxe Select+ 3P rear shock. A TranzX dropper and WTB EZR i27 rims on DT Swiss 370 hubs, shod with Teravail Camrock 29x2.2in tyres complete the build. Entry into the Wanderosa range is via the $7,999 Wanderosa Apex Eagle. The drivetrain all comes from SRAM's mechanical Apex Eagle group. Praxis provides the ebike-specific alloy ETOR crankset. Suspension comes from a RockShox SID 2P fork up front and a SIDLuxe SEL+ 2P rear shock. It gets a TranzX dropper post and WTB ST i27 rims on a Shimano TC500 hub wheelset with the same Teravail Camrock 29x2.2in tyres as the pricier models. - BIKERUMOR.COMSouthern Oregon has a New Mountain Bike Destination: Say Hello to Grants PassTypically, I wouldnt start an article about one mountain bike destination by talking about a different mountain bike destination. But I would be hard-pressed not to mention Ashland when discussing Southern Oregon mountain biking destinations. However, ever since my last trip to Southern Oregon, Ive found a new destination that Ill happily choose over Ashland for future trips. Its close, its a bit cheaper, has year-round riding, and a few centralized trail systems of its own.Im talking about a little place called Grants Pass, Oregon.Im staying in Grants Pass from now onNow, dont get me wrong, I absolutely love Ashland. The town is funky, there is a lot of good food and beer, and the riding is phenomenal. Whenever I get the chance to head south (I live in Bend, Oregon) to ride the Ashland Watershed, I jump on it.But, from now on, Im staying in Grants Pass. Let me explain.Grants Pass is a small town in Southern Oregon, roughly 45 minutes north of Ashland on I-5. The city sits in the Rogue River Valley, with Oregons Cascade and Coastal mountain ranges rising to the east and west.As you can imagine, this creates excellent opportunities for mountain biking and other outdoor recreation. And, like so many other small communities around the country, Grants Pass is tapping into the recreation/tourism vein. The town now has three solid trail systems, and, as I already mentioned, is less than an hour away from the riding in Ashland. One of those trail systems is brand-new, and the reason for my recent visit to Grants Pass. Dollar Mountain is roughly 1,200 acres just northwest of downtown. The trail system boasts nearly 1,000 feet of steep elevation and currently has around 12 miles of purpose-built trails. With the opening of the new Dollar Mountain Trail System, Visit Grants Pass invited my family and me to visit. They partnered with the Redwood Garden Inn to host us, conveniently located in the heart of downtown Grants Pass, and within pedaling distance from Dollar Mountain. This refurbished motel offers single rooms, larger suites, and entire apartments, and is mountain bike-friendly.Aside from being able to ride my bike to the trailhead, we were also able to walk from the Redwood Garden Inn to downtowns breweries, cafes, and shops. The city is super accessible, with far less traffic than places like Ashland. And, if Im not mistaken, when comparing prices in Grants Pass to times Ive been in Ashland, it was also a touch cheaper to stay, eat, drink, and be merry in Grants Pass than its neighbor to the south. And eat and drink (but mostly eat) we did. Visit Grants Pass was kind enough to set us up at some local spots like The Haul and Ma Mosas. Great burgers and beer at the former, phenomenal breakfast/brunch at the latter. So, in the future, Grants Pass, and likely the Redwood Garden Inn, will be my home base for Southern Oregon adventures. Likely, Id get away for a day spent riding and exploring Ashland, but the rest of my time would be in Grants Pass. Between the Mountain of the Rogue Trail System, Cathedral Hills, and the newly opened Dollar Mountain Trail System, several days can easily be spent on two wheels in Grants Pass.Dollar Mountain is Good and Can Only Get BetterThe Dollar Mountain Trail System stretches roughly 1,200 acres just northwest of downtown Grants Pass. Currently, Dollar Mountain boasts 12 miles of purpose-built singletrack, including a handful of directional, DH-only trails. While the entire system is open to hikers and joggers, these descending-only trails look to be just thatmountain bike descending only.Dollar Mountain had some of the most unique soil Ive ridden, and it was very unlike the dirt at the nearby Mountain of the Rogue Trail System. If youve heard the expression kitty litter, youll know what Im talking about. The soil here is essentially pulverized granite that is both loose and provides an incredible amount of grip. The first few laps can be tricky, but after you get the hang of it, there is quite a bit of traction in the soil. Our weekend in Grants Pass fell as fall came to an end and winter began to set in. This meant light rain mixed with heavy fog in the Rogue River Valley, creating a spooky mood and providing excellent trail conditions. The terrain is relatively steep and rugged, with a good mix of fast, flowy descents and a fair amount of chunk. The climbing at Dollar Mountain is pretty straightforward. Any trail you cannot climb (DH only) is clearly marked, and all others can be ridden in either direction and will (likely) take you to the top. That said, there are quite a few existing social trails that cut across the mountain, and can make some junctions and areas a bit confusing. However, I found that if I just stuck to what appeared to be the main route, ten out of ten times, I found my way. From where I started my day at the B Street Trailhead, the climb was just under 800 feet of elevation in about one and a quarter miles. This is the most direct route, but its a bit of a slog. Other climbs are more manageable, but double the distance as they meander more, cutting switchbacks back and forth to keep an easier grade.Only a few local rippers on the trails. This kid got a little too spicy in this bermthankfully, no injuriesWhile I explored nearly all of the 12 miles currently offered at Dollar Mountain, it was challenging to keep away from three tracks in particular. And, as you might guess, they were all the DH-only options of the mountain.First was a flow trail called Down the Drain. Cutting half a mile and dropping 300 feet, the intermediate trail was fast with wallride-esque berms. It has several fairly forgiving tabletop jumps, but the real magic was in the trail doubles I began to spot and pull for. What might just look like two rollers can be linked together at higher speeds, kicking the trail up from a very manageable blue to something a bit spicier.Another local ripper. These kids are stoked to have something so close to home. This is descending Debt Collector, Dollar Mountains double black trailFist Full of Dollars has numbers very similar to Down the Drain, but at a more advanced, black diamond level. This trail dropped off the opposite side of the mountain, and earned its advanced ratinghigher speeds, off-camber sections, flat corners, and tricky root sections. Again, it was fun to find different gaps to pull for on Fist Full of Dollars, along with some of the mandatory doubles in the trail. However, the trail I rode most and the one that was easily Dollar Mountains best is a little double-black offering called Debt Collector. Dropping nearly 400 feet in less than half a mile, Debt Collector is steep and loose, transitioning from high-speed, steep chutes to slower, technical descending, and then back again. The trail cuts through large boulder fields, offering different line choices, including some drops and a couple of jumps.Best of all, Debt Collector runs into the end of Down the Drain, so you get some intermediate flow after hanging on for dear life. And, after a few hours at Dollar Mountain, I pedaled down and met my family at Growler Guys Taphouse for pizza and a beer before heading back up.Other Grants Pass Trail SystemsThe addition of Dollar Mountain easily establishes Grants Pass as a Southern Oregon mountain bike destination. You can easily spend a day at Dollar Mountain, maybe two, and at least a day at each of the other trail systems in Grants Pass.Cathedral Hill is on the south end of town. While it is a bit further out than Dollar Mountain, you could still pedal to the trailhead. This trailsystem lends itself to intermediate riders, as it has roughly half the elevation and a good mix of greens and blues. The more advanced trails are in the middle of the trail system and tend to be quicker descents.Likely the most well-known trail system in the area is the Mountain of the Rogue, just outside Grants Pass. From our room at Redwood Garden Inn, I drove to the trailhead in less than 10 minutes. Here, the climbs are longer, as are the descentsaround three and a half miles each.At the Mountain of the Rogue, everything is chunky and technical. The descending isnt particularly steep, aside from some sections of the double black trail dubbed No Joke (appropriate name). However, the trails are bench-cut and narrow, with significant exposure in some parts. And there are quite a few technical maneuvers, be it over rock or roots, so line choice and bike-handling skills are a must.Basically, these are pure enduro-style trails, and they are spectacular.Add in a day down in Ashland, and I could easily see staying a long weekendmaybe even a weekin Grants Pass, riding the trails.Year-Round RidingGrants Pass has another allure that will pull riders like me to its trails. At the Mountain of the Rogue Trail System, the highest elevation is roughly 2,500 feet. At Dollar Mountain, the highest point is about 1,800 feet, and Cathedral Hills is 300 feet lower.Due to its lower elevation and location in the Rogue River Valley, Grants Pass just doesnt get a lot of snow. Sometimes none. In chatting with locals, they told me that when it snows, it might stick around for a day or so. It melts, then it is back to riding. In fact, winter might be one of the best times to head to Grants Pass. The trails and city arent crowded, there is moisture in the dirt, and there arent triple-digit temperatures every day.Yes, Id head there in the summer, but dont sleep on off-season destinations if youre considering. In Grants Pass, there doesnt seem to be an off-season.I tip my hat to the trail builders for these descents, especially Debt Collector, which was phenomenal. Simply put, Dollar Mountain is a solid trail system. But this is only the beginning. The city of Grants Pass hopes to double the mileage at Dollar Mountain in the coming years. Thanks again to Visit Grants Pass and the Redwood Garden Inn for hosting us. Im looking forward to heading back! The post Southern Oregon has a New Mountain Bike Destination: Say Hello to Grants Pass appeared first on Bikerumor.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 419 Views
