Govt approves MetroLink bidding process for firms wanting to build and run 19km railway
MetroLink a planned near-19km partly underground railway between Dublin City Centre and Swords is to move forward to the tendering stage after Government approval was given at the Cabinet level. The metro line will be Dublins first, bringing the city more in line with public transport options available in over 50 other European cities. The next stage of the process will see potential bidding consortia for MetroLink answer questions on how they would build and operate the automated railway. While transport authorities and Government Ministers have been involved in events in recent months to attract bidders, the first formal stage of the tendering process is the pre-qualification questionnaire process, which is to start in February.Minister for Transport, Climate, Environment and Energy, Darragh OBrien, made the announcement in a video posted to MetroLinks LinkedIn page this afternoon. He said: The Metrolink project, which is so important for the total region and the country, is moving forward. This morning, I received approval from Cabinet, with whats called the pre-qualification questionnaire stage. So in February, we will be issuing this questionnaire to potential bidders, and that will shortlist the bidders effectively. This is the start of the tendering process. This comes on the back of really good news that the judicial review has been withdrawn, funding is now in place for this project, and full planning is in place, Minister OBrien said.He added: Now for this project. So were moving forward to deliver this transformational project not just for transport from the Dublin region but to ensure that we decarbonise our transport sector and, really importantly, provide better public transport options for people in the Dublin region. There are currently two known potential bidding consortia the first is led by French train-maker Alstom, which would provide trains and related systems; the Spanish FCC Group would lead civil engineering works; and French train operator RATP Dev would provide operational and maintenance expertise. The French company Meridiam and the UK-based John Laing would also provide financing and asset management. The second known group lined up to bid for MetroLink is led by the Australian-headquartered Plenary Group, which describes itsself as the worlds leading investors, developers and managers of public-private partnership and would also include Italian firm Webuild, which would offer both design and civil works; the Japanese train maker Hitachi Rail which would provide rolling stock and rail systems, and French metro operator Keolis would run the system and cover maintenance. Consultants Arup and Egis would also provide design expertise.MAIN IMAGE: The interior of one of Alstoms trains and the exterior of a sample of Hitachis rolling stock.

BBB Cyclings Castor Oil-Based Sunglasses Gain New Model with FLUX Lens
BBB Cycling introduced its most advanced lens, the FLUX, in early 2025. During that year, they released the new lens on two different sunglasses, the Valor FLUX and Chester FLUX. As they stepped in 2026, BBB Cycling added the new Arc FLUX to its lineup of glasses with the advanced lenses.FLUX LensFirst, lets talk about the BBB Cycling FLUX lens. BBB designed the FLUX to be their most advanced lens, filtering out non-essential light across the spectrum. In doing so, the brand claims improved clarity and contrast, making it easier for your eyes to distinguish between colors and details. The FLUX lens blocks both UV-A and UV-B rays entirely, along with harmful infrared and blue light.BBB Cycling incorporated quite a bit of technology in the FLUX lens protect your eyes and increase performance. They also added a lot of tech on the lens to protect it and improve performance. The inside and outside of FLUX lenses receive an anti-scratch coating. On the inside, BBB uses an anti-fog treatment to keep vision clear. The lenss exterior has an oleophobic coating to resist moisture and prevent trail debris from sticking to it.Currently, the FLUX lens is seen across three sunglass options from BBB Cycling: the Valor, the Chester, and now the Arc.BBB Cycling Arc FLUXThe Arc FLUX frames consist of bio-based Rislan Clear Rnew G850. This is a high-quality, sustainable plastic derived from plant-based materials. Essentially, it is castor oil. The G850 BBB Cycling uses a 45% bio-based carbon that starts as castor beans.Using this material reinforces BBB Cyclings commitment to ensuring its products have minimal environmental impact. Plus, it keeps the frames light and comfortable, and, as BBB claims, virtually unbreakable.BBB prioritized the Arc FLUXs fit and stability in the frames design. They feature an interchangeable nosepiece, allowing the user to find a perfect fit. The glasses also feature interchangeable lenses and will come with a clear lens that can easily be swapped out for low-light days. For the 2026 race season, BBB is supporting the Dutch VolkerWessels womens race team. And, yes, youll see the VolkerWessel team wearing the Arc FLUX glasses. For more information, and where to find a BBB Cycling dealer, visit bbbcycling.com.The post BBB Cyclings Castor Oil-Based Sunglasses Gain New Model with FLUX Lens appeared first on Bikerumor.

Best insulated cycling water bottles 2026
CyclistBest insulated cycling water bottles 2026An insulated water bottle will keep your drink at the right temperature for longer. If its blisteringly hot, a cool drink will help lower your core temperature and lower the risk of heat stress.Keeping a drink warm in cold weather is just as important, as theres a tendency to drink less when its cold, particularly if your drink has cooled to the point where its uncomfortably chilly, but you may be sweating almost as much under your cold weather layers. For both, an insulated water bottle can be a godsend, helping to keep your energy drink at a better temperature for longer than an uninsulated water bottle. Weve rounded up our pick of the best insulated water bottles for cyclists here, while lower down you can read our tips for what to look for when choosing an insulated cycling bottle. Our pick of the best insulated cycling water bottlesBivo: RRP from 40 Botl: RRP from 26 Camelbak Podium Ice: RRP 28 Camelbak Podium Steel: RRP from 35 Camelbak Podium Titanium: RRP 100 Elite Deboyo Race: RRP 25 Elite Ice Fly: RRP from 12 Giant Evercool Thermo: RRP from 12 Specialized Purist Insulated Chromatek MoFlo: RRP 21Trek Voda Ice: RRP from 21 Why trust Cyclists advice?Patrik Lundin / CyclistAt Cyclist were out riding whatever the weather. The Botl bottles come with a folding sports cap, but you can buy a traditional screw cap as an extra too. The 70mm diameter for the 500ml size is a little narrower than a standard 74mm water bottle though, so Botls 500ml insulated bottles wont fit in a cycling bottle cage. The 800ml bottle is 73mm, so it may just fit, although you might need to pad your bottle cage with a few strips of handlebar tape for rattle-free riding.Buy now from Botl (from 26)Camelbak Podium Ice Insulated Bottle 620mlRRP 28 | View offerCapacity: 710mlClaimed weight: 152gSqueezable?: YesInsulation: AerogelThe first of three Camelbak insulated bottle options here, the Podium Ice is a plastic bottle, so its squeezable. While you used not to be able to disassemble this, risking things growing in the cap, Camelbak redesigned it a few years ago, so you can clean it out thoroughly.Buy now from Sigma Sports (28)Camelbak Podium Steel From 35 | View offerCapacity: 532ml, 700mlClaimed weight: 300g, 354gSqueezable?: RigidInsulation: VacuumMoving up Camelbaks insulated range, the rigid steel bottle is vacuum insulated and is claimed to keep contents warm or cold for up to 18 hours. Two sizes and multiple colours ensure that there are plenty of options.Buy now from Tredz (35)Camelbak Podium TitaniumRRP 100 | View offerCapacity: 532mlClaimed weight: 236gSqueezable?: RigidInsulation: VacuumFinally, for the insulated bottle weight weenie, Camelbak makes a vacuum insulated bottle in titanium. Elite adds a plastic overcap, so the nozzle is kept clean and theres a vent tube added for high flow from the rigid bottle.Elite says that hot drinks will stay warm for up to 12 hours and cold drinks cold for up to 24 hours thanks to the vacuum insulation. Theres a version with a screw-on steel cap available too. Theres only the one 550ml capacity sold though.Buy now from Tweeks Cycles (22)Elite Ice Fly12.99 | View offerCapacity: 500ml, 650mlClaimed weight: 131g, 140gSqueezable?: YesInsulation: FoamElites Ice Fly non-rigid insulated bottle is claimed to keep drinks cool for up to 2.5 hours. A non-slip coating helps you to grip the bottle and it has the same cap as the non-insulated Fly bottle. As with the Deboyo Race, theres a secondary cap to keep things clean and, like all Elites bottles, its certified BPA free. Elite claims that the Ice Fly is made with 30% less plastic than an average bottle, so the weight is less. Its rated for liquid temperatures up to 40C.Buy now from Halfords (12.99)Giant Evercool ThermoRRP 11.99 | View offerCapacity: 600mlClaimed weight: Not specifiedSqueezable?: YesInsulation: FoamGiants contribution to cool drinks is its Evercool Thermo bottle. Its a plastic bottle with insulating material between its double walls and comes with a leakproof valve. Giant rates the bottle from +90C to -20C, so theres plenty of range to keep your drink at your preferred temperature, although the insulation isnt likely to be as effective as a vacuum bottle. Liv riders can choose a Liv-branded bottle to match their bikes.Buy now from Tredz (11.99)Specialized Purist Insulated Chromatek MoFlo21 | View offerCapacity: 650mlClaimed weight: 140gSqueezable?: YesInsulation: FoamSpecializeds insulated bottle relies on its Chromatek insulating layer to keep contents warm/cold. It claims high squeezability too and an amorphous silicon dioxide coating on the inside surface is said to avoid staining and aftertaste or plastic taste. The leakproof MoFlo cap is designed for high flow rates and easy cleaning.Buy now from Cyclestore (18.90)Trek Voda IceFrom 19.99 | View offerCapacity: 591ml, 828mlClaimed weight: 122g, 141gSqueezable?: YesInsulation: FoamThats Voda, not Vodka. Treks double walled bottle has foam insulation, which it claims keeps drinks cold for double the time of an uninsulated bottle. Theres a non-leak high flow cap and a mid-bottle ring for grip and Trek says the bottle is dishwasher safe. Theres a range of four colours as well as two sizes.Buy now from Tredz (16.99)How do I choose the right one for me?EliteInsulationAn insulated water bottle will be double walled, with either synthetic insulation or a vacuum to help keep the contents at the right temperature.A non-vacuum bottle will typically be made of plastic and soft sided. Its insulation isnt as effective as a vacuum and so it wont keep the temperature of your drink constant for as long. In contrast, a vacuum-insulated bottle will be metal and rigid sided. You can expect it to keep its contents at a more constant temperature for longer, although even here it will have a non-insulated lid, so the drinks temperature will drift over time. For both types of bottle, the rate of cooling or warming will increase once you start to drink from them. Theres limited mixing in a full bottle, but once theres air in the top, the drink will slosh around as you ride, mix faster and cool more quickly.CapacityInsulated cycling water bottles typically have a capacity from around 500ml or a little more, although the insulation results in a bottle thats around the size of a 750ml bottle. Choose a larger capacity and it will be even larger. If you ride a smaller bike, make sure that theres the room to fit a larger bottle and access it easily when riding.SlurpabilityYoull typically squeeze a water bottle to drink while you ride. Although soft-sided insulated bottles can be squeezed, theyre slightly more rigid than a single-walled bottle and so its a bit harder to deliver the contents. In contrast, a vacuum water bottle with rigid walls will usually include an air vent so that the liquid flows out of the nozzle even though you cant squeeze it.Liquid temperatureSoft insulated bottles may have an upper temperature limit, to prevent damage to the plastic or insulation. For the Elite Ice Fly, this is 40C. A metal water bottle should tolerate hotter fluids, although the plastic cap will still limit this. You should be able to sterilise the metal parts of a vacuum bottle with near-boiling water though. If you want a cold drink for a hot ride, you should be able to place a soft insulated bottle in the fridge for a few hours before riding and cool its contents down. Heat transfer to cool down a vacuum-insulated bottle will be much slower, so its probably easiest to cool the drink before adding it to the bottle. The post Best insulated cycling water bottles 2026 appeared first on Cyclist.
