Formula Nebbia Pumps Up Their 1st Air Shock
Formula expands their air suspension to the back of your mountain bike with the all-new Nebbia hybrid air shock. Its the first air shock for the Italian suspension makers, aimed at riders looking for simple setup no picking coil spring weights but not wanting to sacrifice on tuning or durability. The Formula Nebbia tuneable mountain bike hybrid air shock(Photos/Formula)Describing it as reliable, simple to set up, and easy to adapt, the new Formula Nebbia is all about performance that lets you focus on the ride. But, its a bit more complex that your standard air shock taking a lot of inspiration from their coil Mod shock. This is a highly-tunable piece of Formula mountain bike suspension after all.Besides the regular positive air spring that makes setup quick & easy, the Nebbia combines a hybrid coil and air hybrid negative spring inside, plus a piggyback bladder oil reservoir to offer the control and adjustability you want from a premium suspension component. And that oil reservoir gets classic Formula CTS (Compression Tuning System) adjustability thanks to drop in shim stack options.Plus, it includes Formulas Neopos volume spacer tech so you can further fine-tune the mid & end stroke of your shock. And at the end, a polyurethane bottom-out stopper for a smooth finish to those massive hits, without a rough thunk.Adaptable to any mountain bike?Formula says the Nebbia was designed to work on any almost type of mountain bike, from short-travel trail bikes up to full-on DH race bikes. Much of that comes down to the modular nature of the shock, where you can adjust stroke in by 2.5/5/7.5mm with simple clip spacers. And the CTS system means you dont need a tune tailored just for your bike or riding style. You can pick from the full CTS assortment for the perfect match. Tech detailsEasy setup: Frequency sag indicator allows for quick visual guidance when setting air pressure.Reliable: 60 hour minor service intervals, 125 hour major service intervals.Easy to service: Designed to be serviced at home, no specialist tools required.Positive air chamber: Works at a lower pressure compared to other shock designs. This puts less strain on seals so they last longer.Negative spring: A coil and air hybrid negative spring design increases initial sensitivity.Compression switch: 3 positions Open. Platform. Firm.Compression Tuning System: Smaller and lighter Compression Tuning System valves compared to Formula coil MOD shock. Three user-changeable options are included with the shock gold (light), orange (mid), green (firm).Rebound: A wide range of rebound adjustment is built in, so theres no need for a specific tune to suit your frame.Bladder membrane technology: The bladder design reduces friction and reaction time compared to an Internal Floating Piston design, this improves small-bump sensitivity and generates less heat for more consistent performance.Bottom out bumper: Originally developed for Formula moto trials shocks, the polyurethane bump-stop allows you to achieve full travel without any harsh bottom-out.Neopos: Sponge-like volume spacers that allow tuning of mid- and end-stroke support. The same technology as used in Formula air forks, redesigned specifically for the Nebbia.Stroke adjustment: 2.5, 5 and 7.5mm user-installable spacers allow the shocks stroke to be changed with no specialist tools required. And like all Formula products, it is covered by their ten-year service promise. Formula Nebbia air shock Pricing, options & availabilityCompatibility: Fits most frames. Standard and trunnion mounts. E-bike and clevis (yoke) mount approved.Lengths available: 16537.5(TR), 16540(TR), 16542.5(TR), 16545(TR), 18547.5(TR), 18550(TR), 18552.5(TR), 18555(TR), 19037.5, 19040, 19042.5, 19045, 20557.5(TR), 20560(TR), 20562.5(TR), 20565(TR), 21047.5, 21050, 21052.5, 21055, 22567.5(TR), 22570(TR), 22572.5(TR), 22575(TR), 23057.5, 23060, 23062.5, 23065, 25067.5, 25070, 25072.5, 25075Weight: 472 g (21055 mm)Price: $850 / 790RideFormula.comThe post Formula Nebbia Pumps Up Their 1st Air Shock appeared first on Bikerumor.

Formula's Nebbia air shock promises home setup and servicing in a one-shock-fits-all package
Formula has announced the release of its new Nebbia air shock the latest addition to Formulas rear-suspension range. It joins the MOD Coil shock, with most bikes and riders using an air shock due to their setup simplicity and lower weight.Formula took advantage of its existing suspension technology and applied it to the new Nebbia. This includes CTS (Compression Tuning System) valves and Neopos (New Positive) volume spacers for at-home low- and mid-speed compression tuning, and mid and end-stroke progression tuning. The Nebbia is designed to suit any mountain bike, whether short-travel trail bikes or flat-out downhill bikes. The shock stroke can be changed tool-free, and wide-range rebound adjustment should mean it can fit any bike without needing a custom tune. The Nebbia features Formula's existing suspension tech, including its CTS valves and Neopos volume spacers to give riders more tuning options. - FormulaFormula says the Nebbia should outlast your current frame and can be swapped between bikes without any issues. Its backed by Formulas 10-year guarantee. This states youll still be able to get replacement parts for the shock in a decade's time. The Nebbia is priced at 680 / $849.99 / 790 / $950 CAN, excluding VAT.Whats inside? The frequency sag markers are there to help riders set up their sag. - FormulaFormula has designed the positive air spring to use lower pressures than other air shocks. This helps to lower stress on the seals. The frequency sag markers printed on the shaft of the shock are a neat touch to help riders set their desired air pressure. The design employs a hybrid coil and air negative spring. This is said to increase initial sensitivity for a lower breakaway force, and improve performance and traction in the initial part of the travel. There's a reservoir bladder instead of an IFP (internal floating piston). Formula claims this reduces friction and damping reaction times compared to an IFP, helping to improve small-bump sensitivity and reduce heat build-up for a more consistent shock. It doesnt feature hydraulic or air-based bottom-out features, forgoing the added complexity. Instead, it uses a polyurethane bump-stop originally designed for Formula's moto trials shocks to deliver a quiet and comfortable end to the shock's travel.Nebbia tunabilityThe Nebbia gets low-speed compression and rebound dials. Removing the blue compression knob enables you to swap CTS valves. - FormulaThe Nebbia is set to be one of, if not the most, rider-tuneable shocks available. It features a host of adjustments, meaning the shock shouldn't need a custom tune to get it set up well for any bike. This means you should be able set up the shock from the comfort of your home. Formulas CTS valves are a compression-adjustment system. These are effectively shim stack cartridges. The swappable valves change the compression-damping characteristics of the shock, meaning it doesn't need to be sent off to be re-tuned.The shock comes with three CTS valves: gold (light compression), orange (mid compression) and green (firm compression). Depending on your frame kinematics, riding style and weight, you can tune the compression damping to best suit your needs. These can be swapped with no proprietary tool required. More options may be available in the future. The Nebbia gets an external compression dial to fine-tune low-speed compression. Theres also a three-way compression switch with open, platform and firm modes to aid pedalling. There's plenty of tunability in the Nebbia that should make it straightforward to achieve your ideal setup. - FormulaTo add mid- and end-stroke progression, Formula has fitted its Neopos volume spacers inside the Nebbia. These compressible volume spacers help create a more linear progression compared to a standard plastic spacer. Formula claims this avoids the abrupt harshness to the ramp-up of a traditional spacer.Theres an external rebound adjuster too. Formula states this has a wide range, where each click gives a meaningful change. No matter the bike, shock stroke or shock tune, you should be able to get a rebound setting without needing any customisation. Finally, the shock stroke can be changed. Using simple, clip-in spacers, you can reduce your stroke by 2.5, 5 or 7.5mm to suit your frame and riding preferences. If your existing frame uses a shock with a 65mm stroke and your new frame uses a 60mm stroke, you dont need to send your shock off to be adjusted. You simply unscrew the air can, pop in the spacers and reassemble. End-user friendlyThe Nebbia's three-position compression switch offers open, platform and firm settings. - FormulaFormula states a minor service should be performed every 60 hours. This can be done by the user, with no specialist tools needed.A major service should be performed every 125 hours. While Formula recommends the Nebbia is sent to a Formula service centre, it says you can carry out the major service at home if you're confident and have the correct equipment.Formula Nebbia specsFormula claims the Nebbia is suitable for everything from short-travel trail bikes to long-travel downhill rigs. - FormulaThere are a wide range of shock sizes, from 165x37.5mm (TR) to 250x75mm, suitable for everything from short-travel bikes to downhill bikes. Formula states the Nebbia will fit in a wide range of frames, including anything that can use a RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate shock.Formula also states the shock is ebike and clevis (yoke) approved. The weight is a claimed 472g (210x55mm).Formula Nebbia air shock key featuresFrequency sag indicatorCompression switch: 3 positions open, platform, firmCompression Tuning System: gold (light), orange (mid), green (firm)External compression adjusterExternal rebound adjusterNeopos volume spacersPrice: 680 / $849.99 / 790 / $950 CAN, excluding VAT

New Hutchinson Caracal Race gravel tyres borrow tech from the road for a faster ride
CyclistNew Hutchinson Caracal Race gravel tyres borrow tech from the road for a faster rideHutchinson has increased its gravel tyre range with the introduction of the Caracal Race, which it claims is the fastest gravel tyre available. The tyre has a slick central band, with low profile side knobs for grip and is aimed at gravel racers and allroad riders. The Caracal Race tyre uses the same tech as in the Blackbird road tyre, with Hutchinsons SwiftEasy casing and Mach Tread 3.0 rubber compound. Its available in 40mm width only, with a claimed weight of 475g, priced at 54.99 / 59.99.Alongside the premium Caracal Race, Hutchinson has also introduced a standard Caracal tyre, also in 40mm width, with a more conventional casing structure and rubber compound and bead-to-bead puncture protection. Its claimed weight is also 475g and its priced at 49.99 / 54.99. Related Posts Best all-road bikes 2024 reviewed Are wider tyres faster? The best gravel bikes 2024: Cyclists top-rated gravel and adventure bikes reviewed Buyers guide: The best gravel bike tyres Best tubeless road tyres 2024: Cyclists guide to road bike tubeless tyres (video) How are tyres made? Reduced rolling resistanceThe Caracal Race uses the same SwiftEasy casing structure as Hutchinsons recently launched Blackbird tyre. This reduces the number of layers under the tread to two by bonding the central 127tpi casing to the sidewall casings, rather than having these overlap as is usually the case.Hutchinson says that this makes the Caracal Race tyre significantly more flexible and results in a 40 percent reduction in rolling resistance relative to Hutchinsons other semi-slick gravel bike tyres. It claims that in head-to-head tests which it commissioned in an independent lab, the rolling resistance was best in class and up to 35 percent lower than competitors.Alongside the SwiftEasy casing, Hutchinson uses its latest Mach Tread 3.0 rubber compound the same as in the Blackbird road tyre, the brands successor to the Fusion 5.When it launched the Blackbird tyre, Hutchinson claimed that its compound had increased tear resistance and that its high rebound and low rolling resistance result in a 25 percent increase in energy return from its contact with the road.Hutchinson says that the Caracal Race is aimed at the gravel racer, willing to sacrifice some puncture protection for extra speed on hard-packed gravel. Its compatible with hookless rims and also designed for all-road riders, who want to be able to progress fast on tarmac but still take on dry, hardpacked unmade trails.Standard Caracal tyre with added puncture protectionIf youre more concerned about puncture resistance than out-and-out speed, Hutchinson has also launched a standard Caracal tyre. This uses a different bi-compound rubber and a more conventional casing with three layers under the tread and a bead-to-bead puncture protection layer.Hutchinson says that the tyres beefed-up casing will allow you to head onto rockier terrain than the Caracal Race. While the Caracal Race is available with tan sidewalls only, the Caracal is also available in all-black. Both tyres are only made in 40mm width. The standard Caracal is priced at 49.99 / 54.99, while the Caracal Race costs 54.99 / 59.99. Surprisingly, Hutchinson claims the same 475g weight for both tyres, but it points out that its the more supple casing that gives the Caracal Race its extra turn of speed rather than a reduced weight. The Caracal and Caracal Race sit alongside the existing Tundra, Touareg and Overide tyres in Hutchinsons gravel tyre range, with Hutchinson claiming that it now covers the full spectrum of gravel conditions.Want more tyre tech?
