New Vibration Damping MTB Grips from Wolf Tooth & ODI x D3O
For years, body armor brands have incorporated D3Os impact absorbing gel into their elbow, knee, and back protectors. Turns out, its also really good at absorbing vibrations, too. So, ODI is using it in their new Vanquish mountain bike grips. It uses a new D3O Grip Compound that, they claim, absorbs 2x the vibrations of standard grip compounds. Its the same tech used in F1 cars and NASAs Valkyrie robot, and now its for riders, too.ODI then gives the grips a specific pattern and geometry to further reduce vibrations, helping your hands, arms, and brain stay fresher for longer. Available in orange and black, theyll be on sale soon.Wolf Tooth Fat Paw Lock-On GripsIf you like big grips and you can not lie, the new Fat Paw Lock-On grips from Wolf Tooth Components give you the same 36mm outer diameter as their silicone foam slip-on Fat Paw grips, but with anodized lock-on alloy collars. The grip part is the same silicone foam, too, for solid cushioning and vibration damping, but they add a locking collar for extra protection against spinning. The collars are available in all of their anodized colors (black, red, orange, blue, purple, gold, silver, espresso, and olive) they measure 132mm wide. Sets retail for $34.95. The ends are open so you can add their optional color-matched alloy bar-end plugs or their EnCase bar-end tool kits.asdfThe post New Vibration Damping MTB Grips from Wolf Tooth & ODI x D3O appeared first on Bikerumor.

Outbound Lighting Shows Unique Helmet, Bar & Tail Light Prototypes
Outbound Lighting makes incredible lights for road, gravel, and mountain biking after dark, but there are a few holes in their lineup theyd like to fill. From eMTB headlights to safer commuter taillights to a more powerful helmet lamp, they had a lot to show at Sea Otter Classic.Above is a concept theyre working on for e-bikes, with mountain bikes in particular focus. Many e-bikes now come with headlights built in and powered by the battery, but most of them are just bolted on to the fork crown or hanging under the handlebar. And most of those are designed for commuting, with a narrow beam pattern good for bike paths, but entirely inadequate for ripping technical trails in the woods. So, Outbound is designing something that looks better, with a broader beam pattern ideal for trail riding. Theyre talking to Ibis now, which is what this prototype is built on, but the goal is to have something that fits almost every bike and handlebar/stem combo.Portal helmet lightCloser to production is the new Outbound Portal, named after the trail in Moab. Theyve had the Hangover helmet light, which is designed to complement the Trail Evo handlebar light, but riders were asking them for something that was brighter and lasted longer.Compared to the Hangover helmet light, the Portal has a larger 21700 battery (vs 18650) and will pump out about 1,400 lumens (vs ~1,000 lumens). That gives it 40% more run time, or 40% more brightness, depending on how you used it.They made it as compact as possible, and it will use a new interchangeable mounting system that lets you use it on your helmet or handlebar, or even under your bar, but the beam pattern is optimized for right-side-up use.Target price is $180 with a June release target. This is preproduction unit shown here, theyre still finalizing the dual-mold cover design that eliminates loose seals or o-rings for a better, more watertight and easily serviceable design.Outbound taillight conceptTheir taillight is still in full prototype phase, but has several unique features that help make you safer and more visible. It combines a bright red rear light with a yellow (amber) side marker light, and as a car approaches and views the light from an angle, it makes it appear as though the light changes from one to the other. It also casts a red light downward to light up your legs and feet as they pedal, which adds a lot of motion to the illumination, letting drivers better gauge distance and know youre a fellow human. The on/off/mode button (which will be covered for production, of course) is on top in easy reach. A battery indicator light stays on while the light is on, making it easy to see charge level. Look for this a little later this year.OutboundLighting.comThe post Outbound Lighting Shows Unique Helmet, Bar & Tail Light Prototypes appeared first on Bikerumor.

Cyclowax Hot Melt Chain Waxing Kit Includes Heating Pot & Pre-Cleaned Chain
As recent product intros have shown, the biggest hurdle for most people to wax their bike chains is the prep. Second biggest? Cleaning up from the prep. But theres no denying the performance benefits, and Cyclowaxs Starter Kit looks to make it as easy as possible by putting everything you need (including the chain) in the box.The Starter Kit gets you get cleaning supplies with degreaser (for cleaning your cassette and chainrings prior to installation) and alcohol cleaner (for wiping down the waxed chain after a ride), and a brush and cleaning cloth to help remove any surface dirt and stuff before re-waxing. It even has cleaning strings to get in between the cogs to make sure youre removed all prior grease and oils.To start, though, you choose from 10/11/12/13 speed chains for Shimano, SRAM or Campagnolo, with several options for most of those. Then just drop that pre-cleaned, pre-waxed chain onto your bike and youre ready to ride. The puck of hard wax on the left, and a very clean waxed chain on the right. The result is a claimed (up to) 8 watts of drag reduction, and a much cleaner, quieter chain. As you ride, the wax pushes dirt and grime off the chain, so it stays clean, too.Out of the box, Cyclowaxs waxed chains look completely clean, with no excess wax visible, and they make it really easy to top off. The included heating pot warms up in just 10 minutes and comes with a hanging stand and wire to hold your chain while it cools. The kit includes their black Performance Pro Wax Tablet, which has biodegradable, friction reducing race additives blended in. They also offer a white standard wax with no added ingredients. Both tablets can be used up to eight times before needing to replaced, giving you about 2,000 miles (3,200km) of real world riding per puck. Their app lets you track wax timing, and if you link it to Strava, itll even tell you when to re-wax based on your mileage.Cyclowax.comThe post Cyclowax Hot Melt Chain Waxing Kit Includes Heating Pot & Pre-Cleaned Chain appeared first on Bikerumor.

    Project321 Launching Ultra-Fast Gravel Hubs
Having just rebooted the brand with new mountain bike hubs, Project321 was showing off a slightly quieter version for gravel bikes at the 2024 Sea Otter Classic. As Lightning McQueen learned, sometimes you need to go slow to go fast, and thats the thinking behind the gravel hubs. Project321 has trimmed back the number of pawls inside the hub, which slows down the engagement slightly but makes it quieter and infinitesimally reduces drag. The big difference between the mountain bike hubs, which have eight pawls working in pairs of two, is the halving of of the pawls to four. This increases the engagement from 1.25 for the MTB hubs to 2.55 for gravel, with an effective 144 points of engagement. Two pawls remain engaged at all time, with the other two phased by half a step to engage next. Thats still really quick, especially for gravel (or road) where youre maintaining a constant cadence. The pawls are magnetically pulled into engagement, so there are no small springs that can pop out during servicing. The hubs place two double-row bearings at the edges of the freehub body, typically the point experiencing the highest torque and sheer forces. They use their same 6-Lock rotor rings, letting you run 6-bolt or Center Lock rotors on the same hub. Theyre natively Center Lock, but use a lock-ring style attachment to fix 6-bolt rotors to them. Launch date and pricing TBA.Project321.comThe post Project321 Launching Ultra-Fast Gravel Hubs appeared first on Bikerumor.
