The Elite Avanti: The future of interactive indoor trainers
CyclistThe Elite Avanti: The future of interactive indoor trainersThe Avanti is the latest indoor trainer from Italian brand Elite, and joins a product lineup that is well regarded for balancing top-end features, simplicity of use and value for money. With that in mind, lets take a look at how the Avanti lines up against Elites Suito-T trainer, a popular model at the budget end of the companys product lineup, and see just where the Avantis advantages lie.Introducing the SuitoTurn the clock back a few years and while there werent too many positives to take out of the pandemic, theres no question that it saw a dramatic boom in the indoor trainer market. Practically overnight a huge new market emerged of first-time buyers looking for something compact and easy to set up, and didnt want to pay over the odds for the privilege. In many ways, then, the Elite Suito-T, launched the previous year in 2019, was perfectly placed to take advantage. The Suito ticked all of those checkboxes, but most importantly it didnt compromise on features youd typically pay a lot more for. It weighed just 14.5kg, while its compact dimensions and handy carrying handle made it easy to move around and store at home. Now comes the Elite Avanti, which doubles down on the Suito-Ts lightweight and compact footprint but greatly expands on its smart credentials through the inclusion of an optical torque sensor (OTS) and Wi-Fi connectivity while maintaining its keen focus on value for money. The power of dataData is the life blood of any turbo trainer ecosystem, which means accurate and correctly calibrated power measurement is key. While all modern indoor trainers are able to measure power to some extent, at the budget end of the market this is typically done using an algorithm based on your input through the pedals and the degree of magnetic resistance, a system known as calculated power. This is the system used by the Suito-T, and its effective enough for Elite to claim a +/-2.5% accuracy from its power readings. The Avanti, however, features an optical torque sensor (OTS) that measures power directly using a laser, allowing Elite to claim a class-leading +/-1% accuracy. You also have the option of four power smoothing options for even more stable and accurate data visualisation when using the My E-Training app that comes with the system.Best of all, you dont have to worry about having to get the system recalibrated every few months. The Avanti truly is Plug & Play not only in how simple it is to get up and running out of the box, but also in its ability to perform periodic self-calibrations as time goes on without you needing to get involved, ensuring every workout is as easy to get started as the first one.Seamless connectivityAs a modern smart trainer, the Elite Suito-T comes with ANT+, FE-C and Bluetooth connectivity to seamlessly connect to smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and other gadgets and sync with your favourite training platform, such as Zwift or TrainerRoad. The Avanti takes this one step further with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. This integrates with the other connectivity standards to ensure faster, more robust data transmission, and means you can connect the Avanti to your home network and immediately synchronise with apps and external hardware such as Elites Rizer slope simulator or Aria smart fan. With the inclusion of Wi-Fi, the Avanti can also check for and perform firmware updates automatically, and once configured to a specific network will automatically reconnect without you needing to get involved. Its all part of making your indoor training experience smart and seamless, and allowing you to focus on getting the most out of each workout.A smart trainer for the futureAs mentioned earlier, the needs of the typical indoor trainer buyer have changed over the past few years. Where once trainers were aimed purely at serious athletes, and were powerful, bulky and expensive as a result, the latest generation of machines are smaller, quieter and more convenient, to suit the requirements of more everyday users.Straight out of the box, the Elite Avanti impresses with its neat design and compact dimensions. Measuring 650 x 830 x 560mm, its only slightly larger than the Suito-T despite being a far more capable machine, and weighing just 13kg its actually 1.5kg lighter.Having said that, the Avanti is still a more than capable partner for a serious workout. It can simulate gradients of up to 18% and supports a maximum power of up to 2,100W. This is an improvement on the Suito-Ts figures of 15% and 1,900W respectively, and speaks to the Avantis more robust physical capabilities and its ability to simulate a wider range of riding conditions and workout intensities. The way forwardEven five years after its launch, the Elite Suito-T remains a compelling budget trainer that showcases everything entry-level cyclists are looking for from a modern indoor trainer convenience, ease of use and advanced features at an attractive price. The Avanti simply continues that journey, delivering smart and seamless performance, advanced connectivity and excellent value for money right out of the box, taking care of the details for you so that you can focus on what really matters: your training. The Elite Avanti is available now for 749.99. Click here to find out moreThe post The Elite Avanti: The future of interactive indoor trainers appeared first on Cyclist.

A little over a week after his road reign in the rainbow bands ended at the hands of Tadej Pogaar, he soared to victory through the forests of Brabant in Belgium to win the Gravel World Championships. The Dutchman dropped breakaway companion Florian Vermeesch of Belgium in the final 14km and rode solo to the finish line in Leuven. Vermeersch held on for silver as a chasing group dominated by Belgian riders contended for bronze, with Quinten Hermans prevailing. After the race in which 4th place Jasper Stuyven left medalless, he hit out against his Belgian teammates, saying the Alpecin-Deceuninck riders in the squad were there for trade teammate Van der Poel despite expectations we would race in [national] teams.Thats a dig at Hermans and Vermeersch. Look, theres nothing we havent already covered in the new Ass Savers Bits n Peaces collection created with playful British illustrator Jody Barton. But these colorful little items brightened my rainy day when I spotted them, and they are pretty much all functional products that I actually use on many of my bikes. Plus, one of the greatest things about Ass Savers simple fenders from the OG Ass Saver, to their Mullet, to the most recent Win Wing is that these affordable accessories are an easy way to add a splash of color or originality with something practical for your bikeAss Savers Bits n Peaces artists series fenders & more!(Photos/Ass Savers)Outside of its more competitive corners, cycling is an inherently relaxing activitythe repetitive, circular motion a meandering meditation, a journey towards inner peace.Simple Swedish fender maker Ass Savers describes their Bits n Peaces collaboration with Copenhagen-based artist Jody Barton as a project to celebrate cyclings lighter side. And maybe just spread a little bit of peace and love with some light and colorful art.Whats finer than a snack among the pines or a swim stop in a glassy lake? I like the way an empty road can work itself into a full mind. Theres nothing wrong with a bit of peace. In fact, we could all do with quite a bit more. CyclistUCI Gravel World Championships 2024 tech gallery: Road, gravel and CX bikes, self-inflating tyres and incredible paintjobsWhile opinions are still split on the UCI Gravel World Championships, its here to stay. This years edition added two big ticks for the CVs of two of the most decorated riders of our time, and as usual it showed off some of the most interesting bike tech in professional cycling.Paris-Roubaix used to be the pinnacle of tech galleries but as road bikes have got more comfortable the choices at the Hell of the North have been standardised and its now disappointingly sponsor-correct. Thats where Gravel Worlds comes in, with a field consisting of riders from several disciplines. Most of the bikes and component choices are a surprise, and some of that old school Paris-Roubaix weirdness still remains. Peep Visma-Lease a Bike riders using an adjustable tyre pressure system. We sent photographer James York into the thick of the action in Belgium this weekend to not only capture the racing find that gallery here but to get a closer look at what the road, gravel, cyclocross and mountain bike riders were using.James YorkIts about time we had some Tour de Tietema on this website. Sadly TDT-Unibet rider Lander Loockxs day was ruined by punctures.James YorkGBs Connor Swift wasnt riding a gravel bike, he actually enlisted Pinarellos Dogma X endurance road bike.James YorkThe bikes official clearance is 35mm, so these 40mm Continental tyres were tight. Yes OK colour on frames is good but look at it.James YorkHe had the new SRAM Red AXS XPLR groupset with a single 52t front chainring and a K-Edge chain catcher. Just about every rider was rocking a chain catcher unsurprisingly.James YorkHe had blip shifters on his drops too. For a hometown Worlds, theres no surprise Stuyven went to town on his setup. He ended up fourth.James YorkThere was an interesting mix of choices even from riders with access to the same equipment. Belgiums Tim Merlier, who came eighth, got his choice of Specialized tech as a Soudal-QuickStep rider and went with a Diverge, but without the rear suspension. Hes also one of many riders with prototype Specialized tyres.James YorkMattia de Marchis Basso Palta was one of the blingest bikes on display.James York It has Campagnolos Super Record Wireless road groupset rather than the Ekar gravel-specific groupset. The council claims that The new facilities will cater for all ages and abilities, to meet existing and future demand but the design includes buses pulling in across cycle lanes to reach the kerb, parking inside the cycle lane at one location and narrow cycle lanes on sections. On the permanent project the council said in a report to councillors that: The permanent scheme will deliver 3.1km of walking and cycling facilities, along Charlemont St., Ranelagh Road, Ranelagh, Sandford Road and Clonskeagh Road.
