Lapierre Spicy CF's unique suspension design offers high and low pivots on one bike
The new 174mm-travel Lapierre Spicy CF offers you the choice between a high-pivot or low-pivot setup on the same frame. This unique design is intended to increase the Spicy's versatility for hardcore enduro enthusiasts, racers and bike-park shredders.Heading to the bike park for uplifted laps? Set the frame in the high-pivot position for downhill-focused performance. Pedalling your favourite enduro trails? Opt for the low-pivot position for maximum versatility.Lapierre claims this design will revolutionise the enduro category, delivering a best-of-both-worlds bike for riders who desire a high-pivot descending experience, while still having a traditional enduro bike for day-to-day riding. There are four models and a frameset available, with prices ranging from 5,499 to 10,000 and 3,699 for the frame.Pivot possibilitiesThe same frame can run its main pivot in a high position with a chain idler or a low position with a standard drivetrain setup. - JB LiautardThe new Spicy CF features a fully redesigned frame using a four-bar Horst-link suspension platform. The shock position and pivot locations are engineered to provide a progressive leverage curve, which remains consistent regardless of whether the bike is in the high-pivot or low-pivot position. This means you won't need to change shock tunes when switching between the two pivot positions. Plus, the bike is compatible with both coil and air shocks. This graph gives an idea of how the leverage rates change depending on pivot-point setting and rear-wheel size. - LapierreThe high-pivot position provides a more rearward axle path, helping the rear wheel move over bumps more easily. To prevent excess pedal kickback, it features a 15t chain idler. Lapierre claims this system offers improved stability with downhill-oriented suspension optimised for enduro races with the steepest profiles. In the low-pivot position, the axle path is more forward, providing a dynamic ride feel. It forgoes the chain idler for maximum pedal efficiency and is optimised for enduro races with rolling profiles. This graph depicts the Spicy CF's axle paths in the high- and low-pivot settings. - LapierreThe high-pivot position delivers 174mm of travel, while the low-pivot position produces 170mm.All models are sold in the high-pivot setup. However, the necessary hardware to change between the two positions is included, so you wont need to purchase any extras.Lapierre will be releasing a demo video on how to change between the two settings, which home mechanics should be able to follow.Mixed-wheel compatibilityA flip chip in the lower shock mount maintains the Spicy CF's geometry and similar leverage curves, while changing wheel sizes and pivot positions. - JB LiautardIf selecting your pivot position isnt enough, you can also choose between a 29in and 27.5in rear wheel.A three-position flip chip in the lower shock mount maintains the bike's geometry and suspension leverage curves in any of the Spicy CFs four settings: high-pivot 29in rear wheel, high-pivot 27.5in rear wheel, low-pivot 29in rear wheel and low-pivot 27.5in rear wheel. The bikes are sold with mixed wheels. However, the flip chips needed to set the Spicy CF up with full 29in wheels come with the bikes. All youll need to do is supply the wheel.Carbon constructionLapierre uses its UD SLI (Unidirectional Superlight Innovation) carbon construction to produce the Spicy CF. - LapierreThe Spicy CF is intended to uphold Lapierre's high-performance heritage. It uses the brand's UD SLI (Unidirectional Superlight Innovation) carbon construction, the brand's top-tier carbon fibre that provides the best strength-to-weight ratio. This approach debuted on the brands XR and XRM full-suspension cross-country mountain bikes, launched in March 2022.The frame uses more than 600 pieces of carbon per frame to deliver Lapierres GPL (Gravity Logic Project) concept. This follows the brands ebike range and is designed to keep the weight as central and low as possible to enhance the feeling of neutrality and balance.Lapierre has reinforced stiffness in the bottom bracket and chainstays to improve responsiveness under power.A bridge connects the seatstays on the Spicy CF to add lateral and torsional rigidity. - LapierreThe seatstay bridge is said to boost lateral and torsional stiffness to maintain uniform rigidity from the head tube to the rear stays, delivering precise and accurate handling. However, Lapierre hasnt set out to make the Spicy CF the stiffest bike possible. Several iterations of carbon layup tested with its pro enduro racers found excessive stiffness was detrimental to handling.Lapierre claims it found an ideal balance, boosting the frame's precision in fast sections, while maintaining enough tolerance for slower, more technical trail sections.Lapierre Spicy CF frame detailsAn opening in the down tube gives access to the frame's internal storage. - JB LiautardLapierre's UD SLI carbon frame boasts a smooth internal finish, ensuring hassle-free cable and hose routing, threading through the headset. The brand's Block Lock is used in the headset to help protect the cables and a semi-soft rubber shield is employed on the side of the head tube for protection from the fork crown.Theres integrated frame storage in the down tube for stashing tools, spares or a jacket.Lapierre's specifically designed thick rubber chain protection is intended to significantly reduce noise on rough trails and fits the chainstay perfectly. There are bottle mounts inside the front triangle.Lapierre Spicy CF geometryThe Spicy CF's suspension layout causes a short seatpost insertion depth. - JB LiautardLapierre has introduced a new XS size for the Spicy CF, meaning there are now five frame sizes, ranging from extra-small to extra-large.Overall, the geometry looks spot-on for a modern enduro bike. Sensibly long reach numbers grow from 410mm to 435mm, 460mm, 485mm and 505mm for the XS to XL bikes. The Spicy's stack numbers highlight its descending intentions, with tall figures of 627mm, 636mm, 641mm, 645mm and 654mm for XS to XL frames.Theres a slack 63.5-degree head tube angle and steep 78-degree effective seat tube angle.Chainstays grow with sizes. The XS, S and M frame sizes use a 440mm rear-centre length, which rises to 445mm on the L frame and 450mm on the XL.The only initial concern we have is over the short seatpost insertion depth. With the short seat tubes and shock tunnel, long dropper posts might be tough to fit in. Jayco AlUla's Giant Trinity TT and three more custom bikes from Eurobike 2024
As the worlds biggest cycling trade show, Eurobike is a chance for brands to show off their stock bikes and parts. But one of the joys of wandering the shows massive and many halls is discovering bikes you'll struggle to see elsewhere. These include bikes from bespoke builders, unreleased models from big brands and race bikes professional riders have specced out to their hearts (and sponsors) content. While Euorbike 2024 has drawn to a close, we thought wed bring you four of our favourite custom bikes from the show, to give you a taste of what was on display.Amapola Cycles technicolour race bikeThe Amapola Cycles race bike at Eurobike 2024. - Jack Luke / Our MediaWhatever your feelings about custom-painted components, theres no denying that this Amapola Cycles race bike makes a strong case for a matching cockpit. Its hard to imagine a technicolour paint scheme like this not spilling over the bar and stem. The Deda stem and handlebar are painted to match the frame. - Jack Luke / Our MediaAmapola Cycles bikes are handmade in the Netherlands. This steel bike is fillet brazed and uses a mix of Dedacci, Reynolds and Columbus tubes for a superlight build. The frame is completed with a carbon fibre fork from Columbus, which like the frame routes everything internally.Elsewhere, there is an integrated headset and a T47 bottom bracket, completing this modern steel road bike. The technicolour steel bike is complete with Shimano wheels and Continental tyres. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe build is completed by components from a range of brands. The painted stem and bar are from Deda. The bike has Shimanos Ultegra groupset and C60 wheels wrapped in Continental tyres. The seatpost is supplied by Thomson, and the saddle and handlebar tape are from SQ Lab.Giants prototype Trinity TT bikeThe latest Giant Trinity broke cover at this year's Tour de Romandie. - Jack Luke / Our MediaEurobike can often feel like a treasure hunt. Buried in its labyrinthine halls are yet-to-be-released groupsets, wheels and bikes, all waiting to be photographed and written about or at least thats our view. The brands may have a different opinion. One example of an unreleased bike that wasnt exactly hiding at Eurobike 2024 was Giants prototype Trinity time trial bike, dressed in custom colours for Jayco AlUla.This new Trinity isnt the biggest secret in cycling Jayco AlUlas Luke Plapp raced it at the Tour de Romandie in April but its certainly a latecomer to road cyclings disc-brake era.The new Trinity has deep, aero forks. - Jack Luke / Our MediaWith time trial bikes being updated less frequently than racing road bikes, the Trinity was one of the last existing models from a big brand to have rim brakes. There are different ways of looking at this switch to disc brakes. The debates around the aerodynamics of disc brakes may have been put to bed. Developments in bike tech, such as disc-brake specific groupsets and wheels, could have forced Giants hand. Or maybe the improved braking and cornering that come with disc brakes are just too valuable when racing against the clock.Whatever the explanation, the Trinity was getting old and this new version brings it up to date. Well have to wait for the official release to find out more.A Sturdy Cilla with 3D-printed titanium partsSturdy uses 3D-printed titanium across the Cilla gravel bike. - Jack Luke / Our MediaSturdy says its new Cilla is an adventure-focused gravel bike, sharing its DNA with the brands Fiadh but with extra clearance, accepting tyres up to 50mm wide. The bike is named after founder Toms late mother and is a tribute to her curiosity for the great British countryside and love of the natural world. The bike has 3D-printed cranks. - Jack Luke / Our MediaLike all of Sturdys bikes, the Cilla uses titanium tubing and 3D-printed titanium parts. The 3D-printed parts include the fork, bar, seatpost and cranks. But look closer and youll spot more even the rotor lockrings are printed titanium. The bike is covered in neat details, including the titanium thru-axle and the brand name on the chainstay. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe advantage of building a titanium gravel bike such as this is the geometry of every Cilla is customisable. While its billed as a titanium gravel bike, Sturdy says the geometry can be tweaked to suit any riding style and that you can also think of the Cilla as an all-road, cyclocross or touring bike.Anne Terpstras Ghost LectorThis is the Ghost Lector Anne Terpstra raced to victory at the Cape Epic. - Jack Luke / Our MediaAlongside teammate Nicole Koller, Anne Terpstra won the 2024 Cape Epic racing this custom Ghost Lector. As you might expect from a bike ridden at the Cape Epic, Terpstras Lector has a top-spec build.Terpstra's bike is fitted with Bike Ahead Composites' six-spoke, monocoque wheels. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe cross-country mountain bike has RockShox Flight Attendant throughout, including the front fork, rear shock and dropper post. The Lector also has SRAMs top-spec XX Eagle AXS transmission with a power meter crankset thrown in for good measure. There is a smaller bottle mounted under the top tube to fit in the small frame. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThere are also SRAM Level Ultimate Stealth brakes, whose silver bodies are nestled next to Terpstras custom grips emblazoned with her name. One of the most eye-catching features of Terpstras bike is the Bike Ahead Composites six-spoke, monocoque wheels. These appear to be the Biturbo RS wheels, which are made in Germany and cost just over 3,000.The bike still has Terpstra's Cape Epic race number. - Jack Luke / Our MediaAs is a bit of a trend for pro bikes at Eurobike, the bike hadnt been cleaned. Instead, it had all the dust and muck of racing on show. It still had Terpstras bottles in place, too, including a smaller top-tube mounted bottle to fit inside the small frame.

Pogaars Colnago TT1 Bike, a Winged Prologo Saddle, Prototype Post, Wheel, Bars & More!
Prologo sent us a few images of Tadej Pogaar crushing it at the Tour de France on his customized Colnago TT1 time trial bike because hes riding a unique new saddle with wings and a spoiler. But that new Prologo Time Trial Predator saddle is literally just the tip of the iceberg, with tons more custom bits and bobbles on his TT bike. How about we start off with a custom ultralight seatpost, a prototype ENVE wheel, and custom-fit aero bars? Then you still have to love his unique AeroCoach disc wheel, Carbon-Ti rings & rotors, AbsoluteBlack brakes and moreTadej Pogaar TT tricked-out Colnago TT1 time trial bike(All photos by Sprint Cycling Agency/UAE, Prologo & Colnago)The Tour may be over now, but the hits keep coming. Between a number of Pogaars UAE Team Emirates sponsors, the interesting tidbits keep trickling in. Today, its a new saddle that gives you wings. No were not talking about the newly RedBull-sponsored team. But instead, this all-new Prologo sadlde made just for Tadej Pogaar to race the Tour de France TTs but now available to the public, too. Well, sort of available.Prologo Time Trial Predator saddle custom developed for Tadej Pogaar Called the Time Trail Predator and officially for sale for 1200 (but currently sold out), its a unique saddle design optimized for light weight and reduced aero drag.Designed in CFD, the new Prologo Time Trial Predator aims to shake up saddle aerodynamics. An integral element of the full carbon shell construction, carbon wings extend down on either side of the saddles flat padded top, to smooth airflow under the riders legs and to shelter the seatpost head and flat rails from the wind. The shape of the saddle is designed to facilitate maximum rotation of the athletes pelvis, allowing him to assume and maintain an even more aerodynamic position for longer.Three small openings allow airflow through the wings as they widen at the back of the saddle. And then, a small spoiler at the tail channels [air] flows from the riders back parallel to the road.A key point not to overlook in that description is the use of a new proprietary carbon rail systemA look under the shell reveals a mostly flat carbon rail system now patented. Its lower profile, so less exposure to the wind. And apparently laterally stiffer for better power transfer, without discomfort. But that also means that it needs its own proprietary seatpost clamping solution. For the Pogaar TT Tour Colnago TT1 time trial bike, the UAE team turned to ultralight carbon cockpit specialist Darimo, whove been working with the team on customized carbons seatposts for several years. The end result is a saddle claiming to weigh just 140g with full EVA padding and pressure relief channel. And it claims to be significantly more aerodynamic than conventional saddles.Prologo.itPogaars 2024 Tour de France-winning Colnago TT1 Disc time trial bikePogaars Colnago TT1 Disc time trail bike itself is pretty much off-the-shelf, except for some tiny UAE decals and an upgrade to yellow Colnago logos. But, its the finishing kit and little details that set this speed weapon apart.Pogaar TT PrototypesOf course, to hold that new Prologo Time Trial Predator saddle in place, the Slovenian champ needed a seatpost with a custom head design. Darimo carbon was up to the task, and created a fixed 0 offset cradle with a 2-bolt alloy head clamp to secure the new flat carbon rails. Although the rails are a Prologo patented shape, it looks like it was relatively straightforward for Darimo to create a modified cradle to support them. That bodes well for a chance that other seatpost makers could add similar compatibility if Prologo decides to put these rails on more aero saddles. At the front of Pogaars bike on the flatter early Individual Time Trail stage was this unmarked front wheel. With around a rim depth of around 90-100mm or so, it is rumored to be a new ENVE SES 10 wheel. On the more hilly final ITT stage into Nice though, Pogaar stuck with the current 60mm deep wheel from his regular SES 6.7 road setup.Custom aerobar extensions shaped to the riders arms and optimized aero position are pretty much de rigueur for specialized time trialists and GC contenders these days. Thes narrow-set extensions are only minimally padded. But the deep wrap-around forearm cups and shaped handgrips should give Pogaar extra control while in his most aero tuck. And just sick custom gearPogaars back wheel is the uniquely stepped and wavy AeroCoach Aeox Orbit disc wheel, which also claims to be the lightest tubeless disc TT wheel at just 980g (although Vision claims one a few grams lighter).Drivetrain is similar to what we saw on Pogis yellow jersey-winning V4Rs road bikes yesterday. Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, direct mount hangers, and massive carbon Carbon-Ti chain rings. Here on his TT bike is a huge 60T 1x chainring mounted to an SRM power meter crankset. And instead of a front derailleur and a little ring, theres just a bolt-on upper chain guide and big legs to smash the pedals.Colnago.comThe post Pogaars Colnago TT1 Bike, a Winged Prologo Saddle, Prototype Post, Wheel, Bars & More! appeared first on Bikerumor.

YT set out to produce 'the best enduro bike possible' and the result is an ebike
The new 160mm-travel YT Decoy SN, or Supernatural, is designed to be 'the best enduro bike possible'.That bold claim was the key goal for the engineers tasked with designing the SN not to build the best enduro eMTB, but the best enduro bike full-stop powered or not.A blank page was given to the team, with no travel figures, weight goals, or reportedly motor or battery requirements in mind.Early in the three-year development process, the team came to the belief that to reach the full demands of enduro riding, the bike had to be assisted.Despite this, YT wanted the new Decoy SN to feel as if you're sitting on a non-assisted enduro bike, with all the handling benefits that brings, rather than on a heavy electric mountain bike. Therefore, YT opted for a lighter motor and lower-capacity battery the Fazua Ride 60 with its 430Wh battery. After all, if you want a full-power eMTB, theres always the standard non-assisted Decoy.Tom Marvin rode the new YT Decoy SN Core 4 at its launch event and you can read his first-ride review here.Facts and figuresA bike like this deserves the stoutest single-crown fork offered by the relevant suspension brand. - YTThe Decoy SN is a 160mm-travel carbon eMTB, with a 170mm fork up front and mixed wheel sizes MX in YT speak.YT set out to make a bike that felt as natural as possible. As such, while it claims there were no weight constraints, the Decoy SN has been kept moderately light. It is, however, fitted with parts that should stand up to the rigours of enduro riding a big fork, grippy rubber and punchy brakes. This results in claimed weight figures (for a Small) below 21kg across all three models offered. The shape of the bike is modern, without being extreme, although it's longer, slacker and taller in stack than the YT Jeffsy and Capra. There are two geometry settings available on the Decoy SN Regular and Low. - YTThe reach numbers are middle of the pack ranging from 435mm to 515mm across the S to XXL size range, while the head angle is moderately slack at 63.9 degrees and the seat angle fairly steep at 78 degrees.Chainstays are mid-length at 443mm across all sizes. SMLXLXXL Seat tube angle (degrees)78.278.178.17878 Head tube angle (degrees)63.963.963.963.963.9 Chainstay (mm)443443443443443 Seat tube (mm)390400420440460 Top tube (mm)565587609631653 Bottom bracket height (mm)340340340340340 Wheelbase (mm)12171241126412881311 Standover (mm)774798821845868 Stack (mm)635643650657664 Reach (mm)342452472492512 Edit Table YTs engineers spent plenty of time perfecting the shape of the bike, using high-modulus carbon fibre to form their desired shapes. The headbox (as YT calls it) is one area that saw a lot of development work. The angular shapes are inspired by the Porsche 911 and Ferrari Testarossa families, while theres method, too, in the shapes. The new hose and cable-entry ports, for example, have been built to ensure the rear brake hoses can have a smooth arc from lever to internal hose guides, whether you run the brake lever on the left or right-hand side of the bar.The headbox area of the frame received plenty of attention from YT's engineers. - Ale Di Lullo / YTYT utilises its tried-and-trusted V4L suspension linkage a four-bar Horst linkage with a pivot on the chainstay. It has been designed to give maximum grip, while delivering pop when youre hauling down the trail. As such, its said to be supple in the early part of its travel, supportive when youre mid-way through the 160mm on offer and progressive towards the end to ensure youre not putting your ankle joints to the test when you bottom it out.The heart of the matterAdd electrons here. - Ale Di Lullo / YTThe beating heart of any eMTB is the motor and battery system and YT has gone to Fazua for its drive unit.Unlike with the Decoy, the brand decided three years ago to use the stock battery from Fazua. The performance and integration of the motor was what drove the engineers to fit the unit. The top-tube mounted Fazua display shows battery level and power mode, and hides a USB-C charge port. - Ale Di Lullo / YTIt's designed to have a natural feeling and light weight, ensuring the bike rides as normally as possible. Its also small in stature, meaning theres little compromise in being able to place pivots where they're required. The 430Wh battery isnt huge, but it helps keep bike weight below 21kg. With the efficiency of the motor, YT claims that on the lowest assistance mode an average rider could get up to 2,000m of climbing assistance, while in the higher modes, youll get 1,300-1,500m.With peak outputs of 60Nm and 450W, it might not shift uphill quite as effortlessly as a full-powered electric bike motor. However, there is a Boost mode, adding 100W of power for a limited time. The battery is fully integrated as low as possible in the frame, saving around 1kg in weight and keeping the bikes centre of mass low.Fazua's magnetic charge cable plugs in here. - Ale Di Lullo / YTThe motor is well protected. A dual-material protector prevents rock strikes from damaging the down tube, while theres a harder skid plate under the motor that's designed to slip over rocks and roots if you run aground. It is also engineered to aid motor ventilation. The motors modes are changed by a small ring-shifter mounted on the bar. This is said to be intuitive to use, without the need to look down at the bar to spot which button youre hitting. The top-tube located display is also svelte and minimalist. However, its hidden trick is a USB-C port that can be used to charge phones or computers, or to link up to a computer to perform a firmware update.YT Decoy SN spec and pricingThe YT Decoy SN is the outcome of YT wanting to build 'the best enduro bike possible'. - Ale Di Lullo / YTYT is offering three models of the Decoy SN: the Core 2, Core 3 and Core 4.The brand set out to make no compromises on the ability of the frame and components to ensure the bike stands up to proper enduro riding. The Decoy SN can be specced with both air and coil shocks, thanks to the progressive nature of the suspension linkage.Coil or air shocks can be run in the Decoy SN frame. - Ale Di Lullo / YTWhile specs differ between models, there are a number of shared components. All bikes come with a new Super Soft Enduro casing Continental Kryptotal Fr front tyre, with a harder-compound Kryptotal Rr at the back. This aggressive tyre is an all-rounder and the addition of the Super Soft compound should only increase grip levels. The bikes all come with YTs Postman dropper post. This has a saddle-rail clamp with the bolts on the side of the saddle, angled out, rather than front and rear of the post. This makes the bolts easier to access in our experience.Continental tyres will be a popular spec choice. - YTThe travel of the dropper is internally adjustable by 25mm, with the Small bikes getting a 150mm post, Medium receiving a 170mm version, Large and XL a 200mm-travel dropper and the XXL a whopping 230mm of drop. The new version of the post has a 34.9mm diameter. All bikes share the same carbon frame and Fazua Ride 60 motor and battery, with 160mm e*thirteen cranks fitted as standard. They all sport a custom MRP SL chain guide, SDG Bel-Air 3.0 saddle and 40mm-rise aluminium handlebar.YT Decoy SN Core 2 The entry-level YT Decoy SN Core 2. - YTThe cheapest model gets Select-level suspension from RockShox a ZEB fork and Vivid Air shock. It has a claimed weight of 20.4kg (Small).Theres a Shimano SLX drivetrain and TRP DH-R Evo brakes. The Continental tyres are mounted to DT Swiss H1900 wheels.6,499 / $6,499 / 6,499YT Decoy SN Core 3 The mid-spec YT Decoy SN Core 3. - YTThough middle of the range, theres no doubt the Core 3 packs a spec-list punch.Ultimate-level ZEB and Vivid air shocks feature, along with a mixed SRAM Transmission. This comes in the form of a GX cassette and the new OEM-only S1000 rear derailleur.TRP DH-R Evo brakes bring the bike to a stop, while Crankbrothers Synthesis E-Bike Alloy wheels keep it rolling. The 3D-printed LoreTwo cycling shoes will cost you over 1,000 but are 'the best fitting shoes ever made'
Lore Cycle says its new 3D-printed LoreTwo cycling shoes are the best fitting and biomechanically efficient shoes ever made.Announced at Eurobike 2024, the new shoes use a scan of your feet to create a custom fit that should feel like a glove but leave your feet free in certain places, as if you were barefoot. Lore Cycle says the shoes enhance pedalling efficiency and comfort compared to conventional cycling shoes. This could be a blessing for those who have wide feet or struggle with foot pain. But it will come as little surprise that a fully custom 3D-printed 'continuous carbon fibre' cycling shoe doesnt come cheap. The LoreTwo will set you back at least 1,069 / $1,349 / 1,259 and up to 1,539 / $1,849 / 1,819. Increased wattsThe LoreTwo is constructed from 3D-printed 'continuous carbon fibre' or nylon for a more affordable shoe. - Stan Portus / Our MediaLore Cycle describes the LoreTwo as the commercial version of its LoreOne shoe, released last year. It claims the new design is the worlds first 3D-printed carbon fibre hardshell shoe.A hardshell shoe for cycling may sound like an odd proposition. However, Lore Cycle says its shoes can be firm due to their customisation. Other cycling shoes need to be soft to accommodate a range of foot shapes. The LoreTwo is available with a low cut (pictured) or high cut for greater power. The latter costs $1,849. - Stan Portus / Our MediaUsing the trademarked Morphic scanning and printing technology, Lore Cycle says its shoes firm roof captures the energy that is bled off from typical cycling shoes, increasing efficiency and power transfer. The brand says it hasnt conducted any controlled studies yet, but it reckons the shoes increase watts by 3 to 8 per cent at tempo pace, adding that higher efforts increase the recordable efficiency. The LoreTwo is said to bridge the gap between the extremity of the LoreOne and what people expect from typical cycling shoes, providing a more forgiving fit but retaining the same custom design.Growing distribution and future applicationsThe manufacturing process starts with a scan of your feet. - Stan Portus / Our MediaOne of the main differences between the LoreOne and the new LoreTwo is how you get the custom design. The LoreOne enables you to scan your feet at home, but you need to visit a bike fitter or shop to get a scan for the LoreTwo shoes. Following the scan, Lore Cycle manufactures the shoes in California and ships globally. The foot scan displayed in Lore Cycle's software. - Stan Portus / Our MediaSpeaking to BikeRadar at Eurobike, a Lore Cycle employee said there are around 30 retailers of Lore Cycle shoes globally. It hopes there will be more than 100 by September. The employee described distribution as very good across North America and said there are also retailers in England, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Mexico, Hong Kong and Singapore.Cycling shoes are just the first application of the Morphic technology. The manufacturing process could be applied to other products that interact with the human body, such as running shoes, ski boots or driving seats.

Eurobike 2024 | Giant's prototype carbon balance bike, the worlds first carbon-neutral tyre, ZF's entry to the cycling market and more from day three
Our dogs are barking after three days of traipsing through Eurobikes expansive halls but our resolve to bring you the hottest tech from the worlds biggest cycling show remains steadfast. In our final roundup from the show, were pleased to bring you a whopping 14 new, weird and wonderful tech highlights from manufacturers big and small. And if that isnt quite enough, check out our roundups from days one and two.Exposure debuts Mesh technologyMesh-equipped lights can communicate with other Exposure lights. - Jack Luke / Our MediaExposure Reflex-equipped mountain bike lights use highly sensitive thermisters and accelerometers to control light output.Working in conjunction, these detect small dips in ambient temperature and movement.A drop in ambient temperature alongside fast movement suggests a rider is riding fast on technical terrain. If it detects this, the light increases power to help light the way.Conversely, an increase in ambient temperature and reduction in movement signals the rider has likely stopped. Light power will then decrease.Smaller helmet-mounted lights, such as the Zenith, can pair with bigger models. - Jack Luke / Our MediaWhile effective, this tech is bulky, so its limited to Exposures bar-mounted lights.Exposures new Mesh technology enables larger Reflex-equipped lights to communicate with its lighter helmet lights, adjusting their power in tandem with the bar-mounted light. This, Exposure says, increases overall power, as the lights can be run at higher power for short periods something that wouldnt be possible with manual control as it risks burning out the LED if run at high power for extended periods.USE brings Vybe suspension stem to marketThe Vybe complements USE's longstanding suspension seatpost. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe Vybe suspension stem joins USEs long-standing suspension seatpost of the same name.Designed primarily for gravel riders, the Vybe ships with four different elastomers.Elastomers and preload screws can be adjusted to suit. - Jack Luke / Our MediaRider weight should be used as the initial starting point when selecting these. Further adjustment can be made via two preload adjusters. These screws can be adjusted to alter the stems angle by approximately 7 or 8 degrees.Abuss indicator-equipped Hyp-E helmetThe Hyp-E has a slightly appealing Robocop-like quality to it. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe Abus Hyp-E is a fully-featured urban helmet designed primarily for e-bike riders. The helmet features a removable visor, brake and indicator lights, adjustable vents and optional ear covers. The indicators are actuated via a handlebar-mounted remote. The optional brake light is activated by a sensor that slips onto a brake lever. The helmet is NTA-certified (a higher level of helmet safety certification for electric bike riders).Though less frequently seen in the UK and US, Abus says it has seen significant uptake of visor-equipped electric bike helmets in France and elsewhere in continental Europe.Enduos longevity-boosting skip tooth chainringEnduo claims its new chainring can substantially reduce wear. - Jack Luke / Our MediaEnduo claims its skip tooth chainring improves drivetrain efficiency or longevity depending on whether its tooth profile is designed to engage with a chains inner or outer plates. The pictured chainring is designed to extend longevity, with the narrow-wide-like teeth meshing tightly with the outer plate rollers of a chain. Its designed to fit existing mountain bike, eMTB or gravel bike cranks, though this design is only compatible with singlespeed chains (and, by extension, hub gear-equipped bikes).Enduo claims its testing has shown the chainring can last up to 12,000km up from 4,000km compared to an unspecified competitor chainring.Enduo hasnt tested the chainring design on multi-gear drivetrains. The brand expects the chainring will be available towards the end of this year, with pricing TBC. However, Enduo says its long-term goal is to license its technology to existing drivetrain manufacturers.Prologos unusual carved-out Tgale TT saddleThe scooped-out rear section is retained to comply with UCI rules. - Jack Luke / Our MediaThe new Prologo Tgale TT saddle has been designed with feedback from Fillipo Ganna and Josh Tarling two of the worlds most successful time triallers. The new saddle features an unusual dipped rear end.Prologo says this section of the saddle is not truly necessary, as time trial riders spend next to no time on the rear of the saddle. However, the saddle must be a certain shape to conform with UCI rules.Berks super light Lupina Monocoque saddleAt the other end of the saddle spectrum is the Berk Lupina. - Nick Clark / Our MediaSlovenian carbon composite brand, Berk displayed has its recently-released Lupina Monocoque saddle on display. This integrates the rails directly into the saddle. The rails meet the wings at the rear of the saddle. - NorthwaveThe saddle gives off big next-generation jet fighter vibes, especially in the ultralight pad-free model. With padding, Berk says the saddle tops the scales at 119g.Due to its lightweight design, the brand has given a maximum rider weight of 100kg.Fiziks 3D-printed Aeris Adaptive TT saddlesThe Aeris is designed for TT or triathlon riders. - Stan Portus / Our MediaFizik launched its 3D-printed Aeris Adaptive time trial saddle at Eurobike. The saddle is available in two models. The long-distance version has a 55mm-wide split nose for pressure relief and stability, while the short-distance version is 45mm wide with a more conventional cutout. The extension on the rear of the saddle is designed to accept a bottle cage.Fizik says the Aeris has a flatter surface than its other 3D-printed saddles, such as the Argo Adaptive, to spread pressure evenly. For triathletes, the Aeris comes with a link to integrate a bottle cage at the back of the saddle. Fizik says this angles the bottle for easy mounting and dismounting in transition zones. The Aeris Adaptive is available with metal or carbon rails, costing 299.99 / $299.99 and 259.99 / $259 respectively.Aerons European-manufactured TPU AirTubesAeron manufacturers its tubes in Europe. - Stan Portus / Our MediaAeron is a new TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) inner tube brand owned by RTi Sports.Aeron says its AirTubes are lighter, stronger, faster and more sustainable than conventional butyl inner tubes. The brand produces tubes for all cycling disciplines. - Stan Portus / Our MediaAeron makes tubes for all disciplines, including city riding. The European production also means the brand can keep the price to 25.It offers tubes in different thicknesses across all disciplines, with the thicker tubes providing greater puncture protection and the thinner tubes providing weight savings. In terms of puncture protection, Aeron says its Superlight race inner tubes offer a similar level of protection as butyl tubes. The worlds first carbon-neutral tyreReTyre uses unconventional methods to manufacture its tyres. - Stan Portus / Our MediaMany brands now aim to make their tyres more environmentally friendly, including Hutchinson, who launched the Touareg Green at Eurobike. But the Norwegian company ReTyre claims to have produced the worlds first carbon-neutral tyre.ReTyre says it doesnt use anything youd find in conventional tyre manufacturing such as vulcanisation but it does look to other industries for manufacturing techniques, such as injection moulding. The tyre uses recycled and repurposed materials, including fishing nets.Pirellis eco-sourced P-Zero Race FSCLidl-Trek are riding the Pireeli P-Zero Race FSC at the 2024 Tour de France. - Stan Portus / Our MediaPirelli is also taking steps towards developing greener products. Its new P-Zero Race FSC is one example. The new race tyre, used by Lidl-Trek at this years Tour de France, uses Forestry Stewardship Council-certified natural rubber. The new tyre is produced in Pirellis Bollate factory in Italy. All tyres produced in this facility will be FSC-approved.The switch to FSC-certified natural rubber hasnt led to a drop in performance. In fact, Pirelli says this new tyre is 6 per cent faster and 18 per cent lighter than its previous road racing tyre.Dares prototype Velocity Ace aero bikeDare's aero bike is defined by its mammoth head tube. - Stan Portus / Our MediaTaiwanese brand Dare had its unreleased Velocity Ace aero bike on display.Uno-X is racing the bike at the Tour de France, but Dare had a new colour scheme on display at Eurobike, which it says is limited to 50 framesets.Uno-X is riding the bike at the 2024 Tour de France. - Stan Portus / Our MediaThe bike has a deep head tube to help it cut through the wind. Its dimensions are said to be right at the limit of whats acceptable under UCI regulations. Its a similar story with the handlebar, which is deeper than most aero cockpits.Dare hopes to bring the bike to market next year. - Stan Portus / Our MediaDare hopes to have complete Velocity Ace bikes for sale by the 2025 season. Also on display at Dares booth was its climbing bike, the Mountain Ace (MA), in the highest spec available. Called the MA AFO (short for Aficianado), the frame uses high-modulus carbon fibre from Toray.Dare was also showing off its climbing bike. - Stan Portus / Our MediaThe bikes paintwork honours Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the supreme court judge who is a hero of Dares visual designer. The frame has a graphic based on Ginsburgs jewellery, which the designer describes as armour like. Giant teases prototype carbon balance bikeWould you consider this for your budding WorldTour tike? - Nick Clark / Our MediaA carbon fibre balance bike was on display at Giants stand, with the tike bike featuring a full carbon fibre monocoque construction.Keeping up to date with modern trends, the bike has a carbon fibre integrated cockpit, as well as carbon fibre wheels. This bike follows Specializeds 999 Hotwalk Carbon in 2020.ZF enters the electric bike marketZF's entry to the electric bike market has dominated headlines from Eurobike. - Jack Luke / Our MediaZFs background is in marine propulsion, robotics and locomotives, but now the brand is turning its hand to electric bike motors. The CentriX 70 motor is designed for electric mountain, gravel and urban bikes. It produces 75Nm of torque and 400W of peak power.XF has developed batteries and controllers to complement the motor. - Nick Clark / Our MediaA more powerful CentriX 90 is designed for mountain bike use and features 90Nm of torque with a corresponding increase in peak power to 600W.ZF says the CentriX 90 tops the scales at 2.5kg. Its form factor is much smaller than the majority of its rivals.Similar to Bosch, Shimano and SRAM, ZFs new motor is part of a full eco-system that includes a top tube mounted controller, handlebar display and mode selector.Stijn Cycles unusual 20in Peg road bikeIt feels right to finish our roundup with something weird and wonderful. - Nick Clark / Our MediaStijn was displaying its Peg road bike on the ply-lined island of Eurobikes large handmade section. With 20in wheels, the Peg could be mistaken for a folding bike, but the designers say the smaller wheel size was chosen to make storing the bike easier at home. The handlebars can be turned around to shorten the wheelbase even further.Stijn says the Peg weighs 7.9kg when specced with a Shimano Ultegra groupset.
