Photo exhibition opens showing history of cycling in Cork, and its curators want the publics stories
A new photo exhibition showing the history of cycling in the city opened yesterday at the Bishopstown Library and runs until November 27th. The purpose of the exhibit is to show the rich history and culture of cycling that we have in Cork, said Kevin Long, a member of the Cork Cycling Campaign who has organised the exhibition and who is researching the history of cycling in Cork. He also called for help from the public: If youve got stories, or vintage Cork cycling images to contribute, we want to hear from you. He said a log book will be open at Bishopstown Library for anyone who wants to share their memories of cycling in Cork. You can also email them to info@corkcyclingcampaign.com.Our ultimate aim is to publish a book in collaboration with the University of Eindhoven as part of the Cycling Cities project. This would be a first book of its kind for Ireland as it documents the history of cycling as a mode of everyday transport from early beginnings to the present day, he said.Long added: We are continuing to apply for grant funding for the project. If there are any Irish Cycle readers who have experience in writing applications for open funding grants and are interested in helping us out, we would love to hear from them too.
