CyclistGarmin launches the Edge 1060 flagship bike computer, plus Explore 3 and 3 PlusGarmin has launched the Edge 1060, its latest generation premium bike computer, as well as a new generation of the Edge Explore, available in two versions, the Edge Explore 3 and 3 Plus. The Edge 1060s screen size is the same as the Edge 1050s at 3.5in, although its lighter at 142g versus 161g. It includes new voice control, adding a microphone to the Edge 1050s button and touchscreen inputs.Garmin suggests that the microphone can be used to select a route, ask for performance stats while riding and report road hazards. It also allows two-way messaging with other Garmin Messenger app users.Voice control is activated via an Okay, Garmin command and the Edge 1060 will then respond with requested information via its speaker as well as swapping to display the relevant data on screen. The speaker also operates as a digital bike bell.Garmin says it has upgraded the navigation feature set too, with the Edge 1060 offering route previews, points of interest, hazards and closures across roads and trails.Other features are carried over from the Edge 1050, including real-time stamina, power guides, course demands and more.Battery life is a claimed 20 hours, extending up to 60 hours in low drain mode, the same as for the Edge 1050.The Edge 1060 is priced at 699.99 ($799.99 in the US, 799.99 in Europe), a 100 increase over the current list price for the Edge 1050.Updated Edge Explore 3 and 3 PlusThe Edge Explore bike computer majors on navigation, rather than training stats, and includes a touchscreen and maps, as well as displaying ride data as you cycle. While the Edge Explore 3 relies on its touchscreen and buttons for input, the 3 Plus adds a microphone and speaker, which Garmin says allows hands-free operation and, as with the Edge 1060, two-way messaging.Garmin uses its rider heatmaps to generate optimal routes and offers points of interest and other route highlights. The Edge Explore 3 also connects up to compatible e-bike systems to display battery life and your selected assist level. The computers also pair up with rearview radars and theres live tracking, incident detection and weather alerts, when paired with a smartphone.Other newly enabled functionality include adaptive Garmin Coach training plans designed for beginner cyclists, while the Edge Explore 3 will automatically link up to Garmin smartwatches to display heart rate without the need for a heart rate strap.Garmin claims a 16-hour battery life for the Edge Explore 3 and 14 hours for the Explore 3 Plus, which extends up to 48 hours in battery saver mode. The Edge Explore 3 is priced at 349.99 and the Edge Explore 3 Plus at 429.99 in the UK, $399.99 / $499.99 in the US and 399.99 / 499.99 in Europe. The post Garmin launches the Edge 1060 flagship bike computer, plus Explore 3 and 3 Plus appeared first on Cyclist.
