Il Lombardia 2026 120th EditionSaturday 10 October Bergamo Como 239kmThe last Monument of the season 175 riders, 25 teams, nine categorised summitsBen Healy is the only Irish rider enteredRouteIrish InterestThe ContendersEntry ListThe seasons last Monument runs from Bergamo to Como on Saturday, 239 kilometres across the Lombard Prealps with nine summits and a finishing circuit that climbs twice in the last 27 kilometres. Ben Healy is the one Irish name among the 175 entered. The 120th Lombardia takes the Bergamo start and the Como finish, the direction the race has used in alternate years, and stacks the hard climbing into the two ends. The first 90 kilometres contain four summits in quick succession; the last 27 contain three.Between them is a long middle that is far from flat. Colle Brianza comes at 138km by its Giovenzana side 3.6km at 9.2% with a maximum of 16%, the steepest pitch on the whole route and the Madonna del Ghisallo, the races signature climb, tops out at 753 metres with 60 kilometres still to ride. The Ghisallo is 8.6km at 6.2% from the Bellagio turn, but the number flatters it: the first 2.2km average 9.3% and the last 1.8km 8.6%, with a flat kilometre in the middle doing the averaging. From the Ghisallo the race drops fast to Maglio and runs downhill to Como, where it picks up a 22km finishing loop. The riders cross the line at 217km, take San Fermo della Battaglia, come back through Como, and roughly a kilometre later start Civiglio 4.2km at 9.7%, maximum 14%, with a marked narrowing of the road at the top. Then back down into Como and up San Fermo for the second time, 2.7km at 7.2%, summiting with 5km left. The last 10km begin on the wide avenues inside Como and turn up at the railway underpass. San Fermo is around 7% with a 10% maximum on a narrow, rough-surfaced road with several hairpins. The descent is wide and well paved through two lit tunnels and two large roundabouts, ending at the flamme rouge. The final left-hand bend comes at 600 metres and the finishing straight is seven metres wide. The Nine SummitsGPMClimbs Bergamo to Como239.0km start 255m, finish 201m1Bocche del Gavarno 413mColle dei Pasta climb first test of the daykm 14.22Selvino 947m10.1km at 5.9%, max 9% from Nembro, stepped hairpinskm 31.93Colle di Berbenno 697msp.17km 65.74Valpiana 989m10.1km at 6.2%, max 10% high point of the racekm 85.55Colle Brianza 670mGiovenzana side 3.6km at 9.2%, max 16%km 138.16Madonna del Ghisallo 753m8.6km at 6.2%, max 14% from the Bellagio turnkm 178.47San Fermo della Battaglia 397mFirst ascent 2.7km at 7.2%, max 10%km 211.98Civiglio 613m4.2km at 9.7%, max 14% road narrows at the summitkm 222.39San Fermo della Battaglia 397mSecond ascent summit 5.2km from the linekm 233.8TimingsLocal time (CEST) Irish time is one hour behindSign-onBergamo, Piazza Giacomo Matteotti09:1510:45Ceremonial start2.8km neutralised transfer10:55Kilometre zeross.42 10:00 Irish time11:00FinishComo, Lungo Lario Trento 15:4016:20 Irish time16:4017:20Irish InterestBen Healy is the only Irish rider on the entry list, riding bib 63 for EF Education-EasyPost alongside Richard Carapaz, Neilson Powless and Lukas Nerurkar.Lombardia is the sort of race Healy was built for. It is long, it is relentlessly up and down, and it rewards a rider willing to go early and alone rather than wait for a sprint that never comes. The Giovenzana wall at 138km and Civiglio inside the last 20 are both the kind of short, vicious pitch where he has made races before.IRLIrish StarterOne rider from 17563Ben HEALYEF Education-EasyPostThe ContendersFive days after taking the European title in enur, Remco Evenepoel lines up in Bergamo in the stars jersey with bib 151. Red Bull BORA hansgrohe have packed the card around him: Primo Rogli, Florian Lipowitz, Giulio Pellizzari and Mattia Cattaneo all ride. The two riders who finished behind Evenepoel at the Europeans are both here too. Giulio Ciccone, beaten by a photograph on Sunday, leads Lidl-Trek on home roads with Juan Ayuso alongside him; Christian Scaroni, third in Slovenia, heads XDS Astana with Lorenzo Fortunato and Simone Velasco.UAE Team Emirates XRG bring Isaac del Toro, Adam Yates, Jan Christen and Brandon McNulty. Netcompany Ineos have Egan Bernal, Thymen Arensman, Oscar Onley and Michal Kwiatkowski. Tom Pidcock leads Pinarello-Q36.5, Marc Hirschi and Michael Storer ride for Tudor, Mikel Landa for Soudal Quick-Step, Lenny Martinez for Bahrain Victorious and Matteo Jorgenson for Visma | Lease a Bike. Jarno Widar, Paul Seixas and Ben Tulett are among the young riders worth watching on a course that has historically rewarded them.Bauke Mollema, who won here in 2019, rides what may be one of his last Monuments for Lidl-Trek.Entry ListTwenty-five teams, seven riders each, 175 starters.
