Cllr Karl Stanley (Social Democrats) said the active travel team are phenomenal, but the report is really concerning, before bringing up the issue of the Strand Road cycle path, which was to be delivered as a quick-build trial in 2021 before Sandymount residents blocked it after taking High Court action. The plan to build a two-way cycle path trial by making Strand Road and Beach Road one-way was eventually given the legal green light when the High Court ruling was overturned by the Court of Appeal in April 2025. The appeal court was highly critical of the High Court ruling. This month, when he asked for an update on what happened with Strand Road, which Cllr Stanley said seems to be off the table, but he said: I dont know what the rationale is for that, and I just want to get on the record that we as Social Democrats strongly supported this scheme when it came out, and Im mystified as to why it hasnt been delivered under the powers that we have.Cllr Stanley added: And if the answer is that it was just democratically unpopular locally, thats fine, but Id like to hear that answer as opposed to were just going to stop talking about this now.Siobhan McNamara, a representative of the Dublin Cycling Campaign, also raised the issue at the committee meeting.She said: A question I had, and somebody already beat me to it, but Im also curious about Strand Road and what the story is with that.
