Marlen Reusser (Switzerland) retained her world time trial title in Montral on Sunday 20 September, winning the opening event of the UCI Road World Championships by 40 seconds from Zoe Bckstedt.Reusser covered the 39.2km course from Avenue du Parc in 50:24.44 at an average of 46.66km/h. Bckstedt (Great Britain) took silver at 40.11 seconds and Franziska Koch (Germany) bronze at 45.54, with Elisa Longo Borghini fourth and Cedrine Kerbaol fifth.The sector times show how it turned. Bckstedt went out hardest and was fastest through the opening 10.7km in 13:36.22, with Kerbaol second and Reusser only fifth, 10 seconds down. From there Reusser was quickest in every remaining sector fastest over the second, third and fourth and turned a 10-second deficit into a 40-second win.Her closing 9.4km in 12:26.85 was 26 seconds quicker than Bckstedt managed over the same stretch. Longo Borghini had the second-fastest final sector at 12:36.89, lifting her from fifth at the third check to fourth at the line.It is Reussers second world time trial title after 2025, and lifts her to fourth on the all-time list for the event alongside Karin Thrig and Kristin Armstrong. Switzerland move to three golds in the discipline, behind the Netherlands and United States on eight each.Lotte Kopecky was sixth, Antonia Niedermaier seventh and Demi Vollering eighth. Forty-seven riders finished.By the NumbersReussers win is Switzerlands third gold in the womens elite time trial since the event was introduced in 1994. The Netherlands and the United States lead the all-time table on eight apiece, from 32 editions and 96 medals in total.Jeannie Longo remains the most decorated rider in the discipline with four titles between 1995 and 2001, ahead of Ellen van Dijk on three. Reussers second gold moves her level with Karin Thrig, Kristin Armstrong, Annemiek van Vleuten, Chlo Dygert, Leontien van Moorsel and Amber Neben on two.Bckstedts silver is her third medal in world time trials across categories, after junior gold in 2022 and under-23 gold in 2025 a win today would have taken her to third on the all-time list across all womens categories.Ireland had no entry in the womens time trial.
