Its not too often that a cycle route closure is welcomed, but in the case of the Coastal Mobility Routes extreme pinchpoint at Blackrock Dart station in Co Dublin, the ground investigation works are a sign that the council are nearing the point of building the upgrade of the route.Cllr Conor Dowling (Green Party) said: The ground investigation is an encouraging sign that preparatory works are finally underway on the Blackrock bottleneck. While the main works will not commence for a few months, this is real progress.He added: There will be a brief diversion while the laneway is closed from August 24th to 28th. This is an important step towards delivering a continuous coastal route for people walking and cycling.The approved plan includes closing the existing narrow laneway beside the Dart platform and forming a new public space in what is currently part of the garden in Deepwell House, a former house of the Guinness family. In 2024, councillors across parties warmly welcomed the plan to widen the active travel route, and at the start of this year a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO)for part of the garden was approved. In an advance notice published today, Dn Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said it has approved the temporary closure of the laneway between Blackrock Dart station and Blackrock Park from Monday, August 24th, 2026 to Friday, August 28th, 2026. A Traffic Management Plan will be in operation.
