New DT Swiss 1800 road and gravel wheels let you find new horizons for less than 400
DT Swiss has updated its 1800 series to include four new budget wheelsets that cost less than 400.The wheels span road and gravel riding, are ready to take on anything and let you find new horizons according to DT Swiss.Behind those claims is a new rim design on all of the new wheels, while the endurance road wheels and gravel wheels have an angular rim thats said to reduce weight and enhance durability.Whether you have a winding gravel path, a century ride on smooth tarmac or a week-long bikepacking adventure on your horizon, the 1800s are ready to deliver. Reliability without compromise is one way to describe these aluminium wheels as they have earned a reputation of delivering lasting performance, DT Swiss says.Wider rims DT Swiss has increased the width of the 1800 rims. DT Swiss All four of the new 1800 wheelsets have greater internal rim widths. The A 1800 Aero rim has increased from 20mm to 22mm, the E 1800 endurance rims from 22mm to 24mm and the G1800 gravel rims from 24mm to 26mm.DT Swiss says it has broadened the 1800s hooked rims to provide better tyre support, so you can run lower tyre pressures without compromising performance.Lower pressures can reduce rolling resistance, improve grip, and deliver a more comfortable ride, something every rider can appreciate, the company says. The increased rim widths also mean you can fit wider tyres to the new 1800 wheels. DT Swiss recommends tyres up to 35mm wide for the A 1800, 50mm wide for the E 1800, and 60mm wide for the G 1800.New angular design The E and G 1800 wheels have a new angular rim shape said to reduce weight and increase durability. The angular rim shape of the endurance and gravel wheels is said to reduce weight and enhance durability for rougher terrain. The optimised rim profile improves structural strength and impact resistance, helping the wheels withstand rough roads, gravel tracks, and provide more comfort on longer tours, DT Swiss says. The rim on the endurance and gravel wheels is also 20mm deep, whereas the A 1800 wheels have a 30mm-deep, aero-optimised rim.Two approaches to gravel There are two gravel wheelsets, aimed at all-round riding or for longer trips. DT Swiss The new DT Swiss gravel wheels are targeted at two different approaches to gravel riding. The G 1800 Spline wheels come with straight-pull aero spokes and a weight limit of 120kg. They are said to be the perfect all-rounder for a mix of gravel riding.Meanwhile, the G 1800 Classic wheels have J-spend spokes and a weight limit of 150kg, to make a robust companion for a long journey setup.
