Lucas Lillistone timed his move to perfection at Ballyallia Lake, winning Stage 5 of the Quanta Capital Junior Tour of Ireland and seizing the yellow jersey on the eve of the finish.The Halesowen AcademyMapei rider covered the 108.6kilometres from Ennis in 2h2231, at a rapid 45.72kph, taking the sprint from a five-rider group ahead of Matthew Crabbe (Hot Tubes2) and Rab Drummond (Team Rauland). It was his second stage win of the week, and the ride of the race: Lillistone began the day third overall and ends it in the leaders jersey, three seconds clear of Rian McCrystal with only the closing circuit stage to come.Aillwee decides itThe race turned, as expected, on the Category1 climb of Aillwee Caves. Cormac Nagle (Hot Tubes) went over the top first for 12 points, from Kaison Smith and Rocco Schumacher, and the selection that formed on the climb never came back together. A front group of five reached the run-in with around twelve seconds in hand over the chase, and stayed clear to the line, with Lillistone, Crabbe, Drummond, Nagle and Nils Hummel all credited with the winners time.McCrystal, the four-day race leader, came home 20th in a group nine seconds down enough to cost him the jersey by the barest of margins, but keeping him firmly in contention for tomorrow.Three seconds, three ridersThe general classification could hardly be tighter. Lillistone leads McCrystal by three seconds, with Nagle third at 13 and Drummond fourth at 14. Hummel completes the top five at 22 seconds. Barring accident, the Tour will be decided among that group on the final circuit.Lillistone also moved into the lead of the Esmark Finch first-year junior classification, so Nagle wears the white jersey on the road. McCrystal holds the Cross Insurances points jersey on 48, and Hugh g Mulhearne keeps the Wicklow200 mountains jersey on 31 points after a gritty day he finished last of the 106 classified riders but did enough on the climbs earlier in the week to stay in red.Hot Tubes stay in frontHot Tubes lead the team classification by 15 seconds from Cycling Ireland, with EF EducationONTO third at 28 seconds, and took the stage team prize on the day.One hundred and six of the 108 starters finished. Jacob Steed and Desmond Mohr abandoned; Harper Johnson and Karl Bryan did not start.Stage 6: the final reckoningThe Tour concludes on Sunday with a circuit race, where the commissaires have confirmed that riders who are lapped, or about to be lapped, will be retired and credited with an adjusted time. With three seconds covering the top two and a further eleven back to fourth, the fast, punchy nature of a closing criterium leaves everything to play for. Lillistone has the jersey; McCrystal, twice a stage winner this week, will not give it up easily.
