This Chinese brand looks set to revolutionise ebike motors and it's not Avinox
e-CVT's motors seem to be the early story of Eurobike 2026, with Chinese brand Gobao displaying its new X1P motor, overlooking the hype at the Avinox stand. Whether the brand's presence forced the hand of Avinox to display its MG Concept isn't clear, but the motor looks to be equally impressive on paper at least. Like the MG Concept, the X1P bundles motor, shifting and drive into a single device right at the centre of the bike, moving weight into a more desirable location and reducing unsprung mass by removing the rear derailleur. Nick Clark / Our Media The system is said to weigh 3.8kg and is capable of matching Avinox's 150Nm of torque and 1,500 watts of peak power. Similar to the MG Concept, the Gobao motor has a continuously variable gear ratio of up to 500% and can be adjusted up to 600%. The screen looks very similar to Avinox's Nick Clark / Our Media The system adjusts the gear ratio to your desired cadence, power input or terrain variability, although if you still prefer shifting gears, the system will simulate them for you out on the trails. Belt drives seem to be the popular choice for these new motors. Nick Clark / Our Media The benefits of an e-CVT (Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission) motor go further than never needing to change gear, with no rear derailleur to smash off rocks and reduced maintenance needed, especially when used in conjunction with a belt drive. You can still shift if you want to.
