Until now, the most affordable bike we'd seen with the all-powerful Avinox M2S motor was the PX Carbon from fellow DJI-owned brand Amflow, at 6,499. However, Spanish manufacturer Megamo has beaten that comfortably with the release of its new Ryal 05, which costs only 5,499. The frame is aluminium rather than carbon fibre and the spec isnt quite as good, but if youre on a budget and keen to have an eMTB with an Avinox motor, it looks a solid option. Megamo Both of the top two models the Ryal 05 and the 6,999 Ryal 03 AXS use the flagship Avinox M2S drive unit, which offers up to 1,500W of peak power and 150Nm of torque. Megamo also offers two builds with the more budget-friendly M2 motor (1,100W, 125Nm), with the cheaper Ryal 10 costing the same as Amflows entry-level, M2-equipped PR Carbon, at 3,999 (albeit with an alloy rather than carbon fibre frame). All four bikes in the Ryal range have the same removable 800Wh battery and 160mm of rear-wheel travel, using a four bar-linkage. This is matched to a 160mm-travel fork up front. All Ryal models are built around 29in wheels. Well-rounded geometry figures With 160mm of travel at either end, well-rounded geometry and 29in wheels, the Ryal has all the ingredients to be a great trail bike. Megamo The Ryal has different geometry from the brands pricier, but also Avinox-equipped, electric enduro bike, the Reason. Megamo say the changes are designed to improve everyday usability and give greater manoeuvrability at real-world speeds, not just on descents. They include a steeper head angle, shorter reach and increased standover height. The stack is also higher, giving a more upright position, while the chainstays are slightly longer. All four frame sizes feature the same 64.4-degree head angle, as well as the same 77-degree seat tube angle. Reach figures span from 435mm on the size small through to 500mm on the extra-large. Stack heights vary from 629mm to 674mm, while all frames use the same 455mm effective chainstay length. Sensible parts spec Megamo's Ryal comes in a variety of builds, ranging from budget-friendly parts to top-tier kit. Megamo Were going to focus here on the Ryal 05, because of its competition-beating pricing. Compared to the Amflow PX Carbon, the biggest loss is the carbon fibre frame, although there will be some riders who prefer an aluminium chassis because of its improved impact resistance. For your 5,499, you get a decent parts spec, including a Fox 38 Performance fork and Float Rhythm shock. On the Amflow bike, the fork is still Performance-spec but it's the less burly 36 model. The PX Carbons shock is a step up, though a piggyback Fox Float X Performance. SRAM provides the drivetrain on both bikes a mechanical Eagle 90 setup on the Megamo and a next-step-up electronic S1000 Eagle AXS Transmission on the Amflow. Shimanos Deore XT brakes slow the Ryal down, while the PX Carbon relies on Magura Gustavs. Both brands supply their own alloy wheels, although Amflow fits radial Schwalbe tyres, compared to Megamos standard Maxxis rubber.
