Watch: Belgian pro crashes OVER the line while celebrating in one of cycling's most outrageous finishes
This is the moment Belgian pro GP Liam Slock crashed while celebrating victory at the GP Gippingen but it didn't stop the Lotto-Intermarchrider claiming his first win as a professional. The 25-year-old bridged across to Aleksandr Vlasov and Richard Carapaz after the duo attacked on the final lap of the Swiss race, which has been won by the likes of Neilson Powless, Marc Hirschi and Alexander Kristoff in recent years. Slock then earned a gap of his own on the uphill sprint to the line and, confident the victory was secured, raised his hands to celebrate before hitting the ground and sliding across the line. GP Gippingen race finish is the craziest stuff I've seen Liam Slock crashes while celebrating but slides over the line to win the race?!?! What a way to take your first ever pro win pic.twitter.com/xCTxGU9pZi Eemeli (@LosBrolin) June 14, 2026 Despite crashing, Slock had enough of a gap to edge-out Vlasov, with 2020 Olympic champion Carapaz third. Luckily the win came with it, otherwise this would probably have been the fail of the year, said Slock, whose momentum carried him across the finish line. There was an incredibly strong wind and I briefly underestimated it. I realised quite early that I was going to win and started celebrating early because I really wanted to enjoy the moment. I raised my arms in the air and then a gust of wind caught my handlebars. Slock was on smiles on the podium and his team saw the funny side, too, with Lotto-Intermarch's Instagram account quickly turning into a meme machine.
