Phoenix Park cycle path to re-open this week after works ahead of Bloom festival
A cycle path on North Road in the Phoenix Park will open again on Thursday after works ahead of the Bloom gardening festivalled to its closure, the OPW Park Supts Office, which manages the park, has confirmed. IrishCycle.com contacted the OPW after a reader highlighted that the cycle path was shown as closed for Bloom, around two and a half weeks ahead of the festival. This morning, a spokesperson at the OPW Park Supts Office said: We wish to advise that for health and safety reasons he has no option but to close the cycle lane due to works on the banks, however, it will be open again this Thursday. The OPW did not respond to questions about whether there would be further cycle lane closures due to Bloom, as has happened in previous years. Its previous bicycle lane closures and the large volume of cars the event attracts to the park have led to criticism of its claimed sustainability credentials. Blooms sustainability partner this year is again Certa, a major fuel provider and filling station operator. The gardening festivaltakes place between Thursday, May 28th, and Monday, June 1st, 2026. The Dublin Cycling Campaign is expected to provide secure guarded bicycle parking again this year.
