Public asked for views on Rosslare Strand to Rosslare Harbour Greenway preferred corridor
A non-statutory public consultation on the preferred route corridor for the proposed Rosslare Strand to Rosslare Harbour Greenway is being held by Wexford County Council. The council said it is planning the greenway as a mixture of a recreational amenity, a sustainable commuter corridor, and a tourism project. The corridor starts narrow at first, confined to the width of the existing roads at Rosslare Strand at the train station on Station Road, it then runs along Coast Road and back towards the train tracks on Mauritiustown Road. It crosses the train tracks and then runs on the western side of the tracks until it crosses the tracks again along Rosehill Heights. There are no details at this point on what type of infrastructure will be used where the greenway runs along roads; other greenway routes include greenway users sharing sections of roads and streets, especially on less busy streets. The greenway then runs along the coast side of the tracks until it crosses the tracks again, before it crosses the tracks again, before Rosslare Harbour. It then runs along Station Road on the west/south side of the tracks and ends at the N25 / St Patricks Road. The greenway will not extend to the port, and the current shared paths on the N25 are poor and do not go all the way into the port. After the public consultaion the council wants to move to commencing the project design and environmentalevaluation later this year, and then move to the statutory planning process by Q1 2027.According to Wexford County Council: This project form part of an overall vision and strategy for the development of an integrated network of greenways and blueways, as outdoor recreational amenities, for the South East region and beyond. This project will seek to attract domestic and international visitors to come, stay in and explore the region. The proposed Greenway will connect with existing and planned greenways and blueways, creatingrecreational pathways for use by locals and visitors, and encouraging and promoting walking and cyclingin a safe and controlled environment, the council said. An information event on the preferred route corridor took place yesterday, and the online consultation runs until April 1st 2026, on consult.wexfordcoco.ie
