The race, in its 40th edition, is famous for traversing gravel/dirt roads orribino around Brittany. De Lie faced two flat tyres in the race and held off a chasing group determined to track him down. The Belgian finished second last year behind Israel-Premier Techs Giacomo Nizzolo. He was forced to end his spring Classics campaign early this season after being diagnosed with Lyme disease, and his first win back came at the Famenne Ardenne Classic last week. This year, it went to Mathias Le Berre (Arka-B&B Hotels) who is from Saint-Brieuc, Brittany.Organisers also promised one for De Lie.Demi Vollering victorious at La Vuelta Femenina, 5th May 2024A.S.O/Sprint Cycling AgencyDemi Vollering won La Vuelta Femenina ahead of Riejanne Markus (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Elisa Longo Borghini. After an incredible 2023, Vollering had yet to win this season going into the race. That changed on Stage 5, which finished atop the Category 2 Jaca; she rode clear to win by almost half a minute. The Dutch star then finished with a dramatic flourish on the last day, soloing away from her competitors to again win by almost half a minute. ! She won a tight finish against Charlotte Kool (DSM-Firmenich-PostNL) on Stage 3 as well as an uphill sprint on Stage 7, when she powered away from Kristen Faulkner (EF Education-Cannondale) and Longo Borghini for her 253rd career victory.Pogaar in pink at the Giro dItalia, 7th May 2024The Giro dItalia is ongoing with Tadej Pogaar still wearing the maglia rosa, which he has had since Stage 2.After just missing out to Jhonatan Narvez (Ineos Grenadiers) on Stage 1, Pogaar mirrored Marco Pantani on his way to victory on Stage 2. In 1999, Pantani faced a mechanical prior to the Oropa climb before battling back to win the day. Pogaar suffered a flat tyre and hit the ground just before the ascent, and like Pantani he fought back to the bunch before passing everyone to win the stage by 27 seconds. If that wasnt enough, despite Stage 3 being a sprint day, Pogaar attacked again with a couple of kilometres to go. Geraint Thomas managed to get on his wheel and the pair did their best to stay ahead of the chasing pack but were caught with 200m to go before the line. Soudal-QuickSteps Tim Merlier went on to win the sprint.Stage 4 was another sprint stage, this time won by Lidl-Treks Jonathan Milan. The stage was a nightmare for Biniam Girmay (Intermarch-Wanty), however, who crashed twice in close succession and was forced to abandon the race.At the end of the stage, Pogaar remains at the top of the GC standings by 46 seconds ahead of Thomas.See you next week.
