CyclistGP Qubec and Montral 2024: Canada one-day race routes, start lists and how to watchGrand Tour season is over and the autumn Classics are kicking into gear, with the two Canadian one-day races, GP Qubec and Montral, taking place on 13th and 15th September 2024 resepectively. The races take place on tough city circuits with the opener in Qubec City more suited to sprinters and puncheurs and the Montral race suiting climbers. Montral will host the 2026 World Championships, so the course may be a taste of what that route will look like although it wont be exactly the same.It will be the first races back for Tadej Pogaar after the Tour de France, as he prepares for this years World Championships in Zurich. Hes unlikely to win in Qubec, where faster finishers like defending champion Arnaud De Lie, Tour de France green jersey Biniam Girmay and versatile sprinter Michael Matthews will fancy their chances, but he previously won Montral in 2022, so hes absolutely the favourite for that one. Hell face competition from the likes of Matteo Jorgenson, Tiesj Benoot, Ben Healy, Julian Alaphilippe, Valentin Madouas, Neilson Powless, Toms Skujin, Simon Yates and Romain Bardet.Key informationDario Belingheri/Getty ImagesDates: Friday 13th; Sunday 15th September 2024Distances: 201km (16 laps); 209.1km (17 laps)Elevation gain: 2,976m; 4,573mTelevision coverage: Eurosport2023 winners: Arnaud De Lie (Lotto-Dstny); Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) Related Posts Lael Wilcox sets new womens round-the-world record UEC European Road Championships: Routes, start lists and how to watch Cycling autumn Classics 2024: Canadian and Italian race dates, details and live TV guide Is Pogaar vs Vingegaard cyclings greatest ever rivalry? GP Qubec routeIn Qubec City, riders take on a 12.6km circuit with a couple of very short steep kickers and one longer (emphasis on the er, its only 1km), easier climb to the finish.Over 16 laps the climbing adds up to a pretty whopping 2,976m, so expect attrition. And with the finish being the hardest part of the lap, its not for the pure sprinters, and there are plenty of opportunities to attack and get a gap, like Benot Cosnefroy did in 2022.GP Montral routeThe Montral circuit is a proper Classic, its no surprise the Worlds are coming here. Its almost exclusively up or down including the 1.8km Cte Camillien-Houde, which averages 8%, and over 17 laps of the 12.3km circuit the total climbing tallies up to just over 4,500m. Again, the finish line is uphill, along the straight Avenue de Parc, which is a 650m, 4% average kick, so if theres a group at the finish its a proper punchy climax. Its hard to look past Pogaar here as usual, but on these circuits anything can happen. How to watch GP Qubec and Montral Dario Belingheri/Getty ImagesThe 2024 GP Qubec and Montral will be available to watch on Eurosport and onDiscovery+.
